I thought for sure that the Gwinnett Stripers name change created the most significant potential for embarrassing on-air reporting mishaps in all of MiLB. Thank you, Tampa Tarpons, for proving me wrong.

Over/under on how long it will take for a local news reporter to inadvertently call the team the Gwinnett Strippers on air? A cross-promotion with the Clermont Lounge would be hilarious as well.

They have to go with Fatbacks. Brandiose just did the design for the inaccurately named "Down East Wood Ducks" and it would be too confusing to have two forest-related fowl mascots in the same league and region of North Carolina. Of course, if I'm wrong then expect something like this:

I saw an earlier post announcing the team name but I hadn't seen the logos etc. for the Buies Creek Astros. Buies Creek, NC will be the temporary home for the former High-A Bakersfield, CA franchise that folded and was transferred from the California League to the Carolina League while a new stadium is built in Fayetteville, NC. I would imagine a military-themed rebrand will be in the offing once they move to the new facility Fayetteville in 2019 given the proximity to Fort Bragg.

HamHawks is amazing. I saw this online (not my work) but I would pay tens of dollars for a hat with this logo:

I've been to Fayetteville a couple years ago during a mission trip. Nice place. Glad to see them get a team. I'm not a fan of minor league clubs copying their parent's identity, but Fayetteville Astros has a nice sound to it.
The old Sally League team was the Fayetteville Generals. I think another military name might be too on the nose, but I had idea based on this History Channel article.
Since Fayetteville is named after the Marquis de Lafayette, and Lafayette was directly responsible for the creation of the American Foxhound breed, I think the "Fayetteville Foxhounds" would be a fun, alliterative and history-based nickname.
Plus, a cartoon version of these pups would look great:

I am betting it will be the New Orleans Nutria, they won't even have to change the mascot:
Alternatively, I think the Crescent City Krewe would be a pretty good option.

I think you are right, at least with that Baltimore helmet and the Houston Oilers. The Ravens played the Tennessee Oilers on a few occasions.
