  1. any idea how to get more activity on this board? I think this is a great spot and I appreciate those posting the latest and greatest new rings that come out. wish there was more posting and more members here. any idea how to make that happen?
  2. The Craziest Looking Championship Rings in Sports not sure how I missed this story on bleacher report back from November. It's a fluff piece and you won't probably learn anything you don't already know, but here's the link.... http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1838358-the-craziest-looking-championship-rings-in-sports
  3. Wow, the ring is gone already. When I do a completed search I don't see it. Must have been taken off and done privately. How did you know TJ made the multiple offers? I thought ebay was revealing less and less information?
  4. a Colts superbowl losing xli ring was just put on ebay at a reasonable asking price. it already has 3 offers. i don't think it will last long. it belonged to a scout. i know the ring is 100% real (I do have a player's ring from the same year). it's missing 2-3 small blue stones, but any jeweler could fix it at very little money. good luck if anyone is interested in it.
  5. I did see that ring on ebay. I don't think much of the seller, he knows nothing about rings, buys crap and then tries to resell it on ebay at quite a mark up. there were two things about his ring that amazed me: 1) the top of the ring looks dead-on real. even the tiny prongs look exactly correct and the quality of the red stone where it meets the gold is very well done. 2) The other thing that surprised me was the wording on the Lombardi trophy was very crisp! The shanks have the heavy horizontal lines which is a give away the ring was made from a wax mold of a real ring. The real rings, if they even have those lines are much much thinner and is covered by the black antiquing when the ring is made. my ring has the antiquing in tact so I don't know if the thin lines are beneth. sometimes it is not lines but more of a random patterns (like on the Jets superbowl III ring). the Jostens engraving was strange, and looked totally fake too. I would stay away from the ring. Many salesman samples are not real and have gone down in price over the last 10-15 years due to high incidence of fakes. PS - I didn't realize the score was missing. Great catch Dralec!
  6. I was offered a chance to buy this ring. while I have seen the ring before, I never saw the presentation box. It is a Jostens ring and they subcontract out the making of the presentation boxes. Perhaps this was a style used back then. It is different from any other presentation box I have seen. The seller wanted way too much for the ring, hopefully someday we can agree to a price or another one will come along.
  7. sometimes rings will go for less money. I remember a few years ago, Heritage had a great super bowl XII Cowboys player ring that went for under 18,000. sometimes once the rings get going in an auction, they all rise (I have noticed this with SCP ring auctions too. hang in there, someday you will get a 31 ring at a better price.
  8. What did you guys think of the final prices realized in the Goldin Auction? Also heritage has some great rings coming up including a Giants #43 ring, Saints #44, packers #31 and #32 and Bill Walsh's last super bowl ring #24
  9. In a single year? With Jostens doing such a high percentage of the rings, this used to happen frequently. The first time was Super Bowl I when they did the Packers and Chiefs rings. The last few years, we have seen Tiffany take a more active role (Giants #42, #46, Saints #44 and 49ers #47). The Colts two recent appearances were handled by Heff Jones and who can forget the Steelers watches from #45 (Bulova). The last two times this happened were Super Bowl XLIII (Steelers and Cardinals) and before that, Super Bowl XL) (Steelers and Seahawks). There's a good chance Jostens will do both rings again for the Seahawks and Broncos.
  10. I have heard from numerous sources that the NFL mandates that first-time champions restrict rings to one large diamond, and not to make the rings huge. I can't think of a team that did their first super bowl ring supersized. Pats owner, Robert Kraft did a huge ring when they won their first super bowl, however, by today's standard, that ring is now average size. One way I believe Paul Allen will spend money is that most of the staff will get very large rings. this is paid for by the owner, not the nfl, and he has total discretion how many rings he makes. That means, just like the 2009 Yankee ring, you may see a lot of these rings sold on ebay and auction houses soon after they are awarded. Can't wait to see the Seahawks and Broncos rings!
  11. Thanks for your kind words. I appreciate it! I wish I could put the pictures on the site without the annoying mention of the website, however those fake ring sites and others copy the pictures for their own sites. Hope to have more pictures up soon!
  12. I know rings are getting bigger all the time but this is crazy! On a serious note, I did not know Jostens makes large models of their rings. Do they still do this or do they use computer software now? Where did you find that picture, that's amazing!
  13. I remember that story. I think you are on to something... Payton took off his ring and let a lot of college kids try the ring on (they were sitting on the couch as I remember. Then the ring vanished. If you were Walter Payton would you leave the house without your ring??? Also, two of his teammates had their rings stolen and returned.... Stefan Humphries and a really strange story... Willie Gault. Scott Welkowsky, the well known Ring Dealer, was offered Gault's stolen ring and got the police involved. The police arrested the person who tried to sell the stolen ring. I believe that person got it directly from the thief and knew they were selling stolen property.
  14. Yes!!! That's the story I was trying to remember. I knew I did not dream that. What a good person to return it. John Schmitt, center for the Jets, lost his original ring while serfing. It was found some years later and put in a box. The person who found it had no idea what they found. Years later when the person died, the niece found it, determined what it was, and returned the ring to John Schmitt. I know John, he lives on Long Island. He ordered another ring and wore it every day. He has two sons, so what a great gift, now he can give each of his two sons a superbowl III ring!
  15. Jerry Krammer left his super bowl I ring in the bathroom on an airplane. He took it off to wash his hands. He recovered the ring many years later when the ring was in an auction. The consigner was a lawyer and was not willing to cooperate so finally, the auction house settled the matter. Jerry got his original ring back and auctioned off the replacement ring and the money went to charity. I believe another super bowl ring was returned to the original owner after he too, took the ring off to wash his hands at a public bathroom. I can't recall who that was.
  16. Thanks for the post and link. The author did a poor job of researching this. He made it sound like it was a lifestyle choice, that the player did not want the ring. These players cherish the rings and don't choose to part with them. Damien Berry had issues with the law, a suspended licencse, and like many other players probably ran out of money and had no choice but to sell the ring or lost it at a pawn shop.
  17. While not exclusively a football or super bowl auction, I believe the Goldin auctions event is heavily tilted toward football. Hunt will have a super bowl themed auction that should finish up the day before the big game. I hope they have some rings too! And Leland's current auction has a lot of baseball and one old-AFL championship ring in it's auction, that ends January 10th.
  18. From the stories I have seen over the last 10 or so years, it seems players reluctantly get a replacement ring and often want the original back, even if it's a worn and not in original condition. Glad things worked out for Lance Moore and he got what he wanted.
  19. Dralec, you bring up some great points! As a collector the buyout does not effect me. I wonder if prices will rise for the teams? It's well known that these ring companies break or lose money on the rings as a way to show off and market the rings. They do make money when players and staff buy pendants, and other items. And when allowed make a ton of money on fan rings! On the major league level, Herff Jones does very little work (they did the colts twice in the last ten years) and Tiffany has carved out a nice piece of business (Bucs, super bowl 37, Giants Superbowl 42 and 46, Saints #44, Redskins #26) and the buyout is probably a nice opportunity for Tinffany. Masters of Design is not up to the quality of the companies already mentioned.
  20. Yes, it's Paul Hornung's. Won it in SCP's auction. It was not his original ring which was lost, it was remade. Had it been original it would have been out of my price range.
  21. Yes it is! First time ever I negotiated a purchase before the ring was given to the player! I still went through a lot of ups and downs before finally acquiring it. Thanks for calling me a walking encyclopedia. The real encyclopedia title belongs to Scott Welkowsky in California. Every time I have a question, he has an answer.
  22. that superbowl 39 ring is 100% real, I have the ring, and the presentation box and bought it from the original owner. If you are looking to collect on a budget, that's an excellent ring to acquire - it's made of non gold, and imitation diamonds. The ring can be purchased on a modest budget. By the way, I see SCP will have a real player's superbowl 39 ring - back up quarterback Rohan Davey. Someone got their hands on Rohan's ring a few years back and had molds made. there are some fake ones out there with real dimaonds. A pawnshop in Atlanta has tried to sell the ring as real for a long time. The ring in SCP looks real. Should go for 50,000 or above.
  23. since it's been 45 years since my beloved Jets have won a super bowl, I wonder what they would do if they ever won their second one? Same city, just almost 5 decades ago!
  24. Great idea! It would be the perfect thing to ingrave inside the ring as the trend the last few years have been engravings inside the ring. The CFL has been engraving inside the ring longer than the American Sports Leagues.
