  1. is this the first ncaa final four ring made? anyone want to predict when we will see the first elite 8 or sweet 16 men's bb rings?
  2. Great photos! Thanks for posting. Keep in mind there are a lot of diamonds missing in this ring (cz's I guess). The logo on the players rings had diamaonds around it, and the rows of dimaonds are missing above the Lombardi trophy and below the Lombardi trophy. Same box and same engraving as the player's version.
  3. Wow!!!! Yours looks so much better - and you have the NFC conference ring too! Sweet!
  4. This Photo Was Spotted On Twitter. What Happens When The Cowboys Win Another Super Bowl?
  5. I did contact him. My gut feeling is it's a real ring. They sent me a picture of a Tiffany appraisal that I had not seen before. That's where I learned the ring is 26mm. By the way, the Tiffany fan ring, with no dimaonds is also 26mm. Not sure if it is the exact same size as the player's version. The person is slow to get back to me, but does not want to sell it for under 70,000. He calims it is a player's ring (could be a practice squad player). At 70,000 I don't believe that's a realistic price. These rings typically sell at auction for 20,000 - 50,000. The 50,000 price is usually for the huge rings such as The Patriots super bowl XXXIX ring or the Packers platnum super bowl XLV ring. The auction house gets 20-30 percent so that leaves the consigner with around 30,000. Plus the smaller rings sell for a lot less and once the 2nd, 3rd and 4th hit the market place, prices fall. But who knows, they are very slow in getting back to me and I don't think this is going to work out for me.
  6. I'm not the smartest guy out there, so you lost me on the comparisons. I am not sure if 26mm or 30mm counts as a bigger ring and I am not sure if the weights I go by are an indication either. I would need to line them up and photograph them, I guess. I noticed the seahawks ring looks really big on most hands, and one player who must have huge hands made the ring look small. So I really don't know how big or small the seahawks ring but it did look tiny when worn alongside that college ring.
  7. The last thing I wanted to put in the blog was that the ring was 26 mm, because that's a hard number to wrap your head around. I looked on a ruler at 26 mm and then I said to myself, "now what?". The 26 mm did not give me a feel for the size of the ring. Having gotten a player's Denver ring, I can tell you that the Bronco ring is made of 10K gold and 54. grams and it's pretty big (just compare it to the Broncos super bowl rings in my previous photos). I have not been able to find the weight of the Seahawks rings. At 14K, they should be around 10% heavier then 10K gold, so if they are around 60 grams, I would say the rings might me comparable in size. I hope to have one in a month or two and then I can take a photo of the two rings side by side. Should my deal fall through (they often do), who knows when I will get a Seahawks ring.
  8. I may have something perfect. a year or two ago, I won an auction for a Tony Gwynn baseball with custom glass display and a custom presentation box. the presentation box looked like the modern josten ring boxes, however, it was huge! I bought the item just for the box! I was going to have the glass etched with either the steelers and 49ers and make 5 - 7 slots for rings. I have yet to make the inside or design the engraving. If you are interested we could talk about this, let me know. thanks
  9. Not sure if this is exactly what you want but I use them with great results. you know those acrylic cases made to hold baseballs? They have a holder for each baseball, kind of like a big golf tee. You can put a ring in each of the holders. You can even put a ring between the holders. The units can go on the wall and they really show off the rings.
  10. Where did you get this picture? I saw it on Twitter. I believe it belongs to a coach who was also a coach on the Saints staff. I thought it was a cool comparason and sheds a little light on the seahawks ring size.
  11. Not sure what this proves but here is the seahawks ring compared in size to the Saints rings. The saints ring was kind of smallish, at about 57 grams. The seahawks ring does appear larger. I believe the last Giants ring was around 92 grams and the Ravens ring was 88 grams. The Ravens ring is the only ring that I am mentioning that is 10K gold (the others are 14K). So the Ravens ring at 88 grams would be around 100 grams had it been in 14K like the others.
  12. Hi Brandon, Great points. I was not saying that teams have eliminated large diamonds, I was writing that the trend is more towards a never-ending sea of tiny diamonds all over the ring. As a result of this trend, where new rings contain way over 100 diamonds, the larger diamonds shown in the 49er ring have become smaller in the last few rings produced. The 49ers rings, screams, "big-large diamonds" while the last three super bowl rings (shown in the picture) screams, look at me, I have 100-300 tiny diamonds (just my opinion).
  13. Did you guys notice that the ring has more color and contrast than the Tiffany photos show? The seahawk beak on many of the photos looks like white gold, yet in this picture above, the beak looks to share one or two of the team's official colors. (or is that reflected light?) also the "World champions" on top, when shown in the right light does have a visual contrast that let's it stand out. I noticed that on the Broncos ring too. The Jostens photos downplayed the Bronco's blue stone's color varaition, yet pictures of a real ring in a real setting, shows multiple shades that are really cool. Also, on the matter of size, keep in mind that the NFL tries to mandate certain requirements for first-time winners. Like the Ravens and Pats, if the Seahawks win another super bowl or two, look for the size and bling on the rings to grow. And as was pointed out, the ring looks huge to me, it's going from start of his finger past the start of the knucke! PS - I loved the tribute to the 12th man and for recognition of the 12 men flags seen at the stadium and around Seaattle!
  14. I totally agree, I found one picture a player took that was in focus but too small to use, and the top of his ring had so much color and stood out better than the photo-shopped professional pictures There are better pictures out there on the internet.
  15. I like the ring, but I wonder if "what's next" could come back and byte them in the you know what if they have a superbowl hangover this season. was that there saying from last season? anyone know how much the ring weighs? I ask because I wonder how large the ring is? Fantastic pictures, thanks for sharing!
  16. Hi Dralec - I thought the same thing you did, until I started to collect real rings and started to weigh them. It turns out that the tops are made separately and are always the same weight. Next, the gold is measured and used to make the remaining sides and bottom. Because they use the same amount of gold, the bottom of the rings would be narrower and thinner for 350 pound lineman and thicker and wider for 5'9" smaller players such as kickers. So the rings leave the manufacturing plant around the same size. I have noticed within one to two grams. Next, on older 14K rings, where the gold is softer than 10K, a ring that's worn on a finger a lot will wear-down over time. Check out some 14K championship rings from the 1920's - 1950's and you will sometimes see huge amount of wear. This would mean the rings get a lot lighter. Also, when a ring gets polished at a jeweler and they buff out the nicks and scratches, they are actually taking off the gold. Rick Harrison in his book about his career owning a Pawn shop, mentioned that the gold dust and scraps are valuable and can be substantial. I took my Patriots Super bowl XXXVIII to my local jeweler because the player wore it a lot and it had many nicks and scratches. The ring came back looking brand new and mint, but it lost almost 3 grams! According to the Josten's tweet, at 4.06 ounces, that equates to 115 grams. I can't see how my XXXIX ring lost 13 grams. I believe that was a calculation error on their part.
  17. It does not happen all the time, but sometimes auction houses list the weight of the rings. The only ring I have seen weighted was a player ring at it came it around 102 grams. When Mastro sold Cedric Cobbs ring they did not list a weight. A Packers ring sold by Scott Welkowsky privately was 108.7 grams and Heritage sold one at auction that was 113 grams. The one I own is 110 grams.
  18. Thanks Ravens12. I went online and you are 100% correct. Thanks again! The crazy thing about championship rings is that everything is a secret. Unlike collecting baseball cards, there is no great reference manuals or printed comprehensive books. We kind of have to research everything ourselves. Not to nit-pick but if the ring was made by one company I would think it would have one logo. Other rings have Masters of Design and some others have Herff Jones but I have never seen one ring with both. Although Masters of Design is a division, perhaps both divisions or companies, or design teams shared in the design and/or production as both markings are inside the ring.
  19. Hey, be sure to visit Twitter and/or google images - late Thursday evening. The Seahawks have their ring ceremony that evening! I can't wait!
  20. Hi Karl, I keep a database of rings and I don't have any front office rings in my database. I show Bill Sherman's ring sold for arond 20,000 in 2009. the auction said it was a balfour ring and probably the same ring the players received. Sherman was a former player and former coach and is in the Hall of Fame. If Jostens made the front office rings, that would be a first! Two manufacturers making two different rings.
  21. I agree ridenlow! It was a gorgeous ring, capturing their logo and team colors. It was the last championship ring that I can remember done in yellow gold. By the way, they call gold "Gold" for a reason! I think Gold color is so much classier than white gold. Hell, the nickels in our pockets are the same colors as all these "silver" colored rings we see now. Bring back real "Gold"! PS - How could your Packers do a ring in Platinum? While Platinum is amazing and more costly than gold, didn't anyone realize on the ring design team that their team colors are green and GOLD!
  22. Kinda surprising since jostens made their nfc rings. Poking around the last month or two, I saw Tiffany was promoting Seahawks Super Bowl memorabilia for sale. No rings were available to the public, but charms, keychains, etc. This was a strong indication to me that Tiffany was picked to make the championship rings. We will find out soon! Can't wait! I thought the Tiffany rings for the Gaints and Saints and Tampa were top-notched. Yea a little small, but doesn't that reflect more on ownership then the ring company?
  23. Good points - I guess that's what they thought of when they designed it. However, look at the winning super bowl rings from the last decade and they all have big diamonds representing super bowl victories and then smaller diamonds to fill out the ring. If I was on the committee designing this ring, I would have wanted 7 diamonds. If you notice on the Pats last ring, which was an AFC ring (losing Super Bowl ring) they did a diamond for each super bowl appearance and lots of small diamonds too!
