  1. Mets New Championship Rings Awarded No, it's not an April fools joke. The championship ring drought came to an end this week; at least at the minor league level. The Binghamton Mets received their 2014 Eastern League Championship rings during a ceremony at the Mets Spring Training complex in Port St. Lucie, FL on Tuesday morning. It was the Binghamton Mets first Eastern League title in more than 20 years. I have seen Yankee minor league championship rings with very similar designs. Any thoughts or comments about the design of this minor league ring?
  2. Anyone want to comment about or talk about the design of these rings? In researching my latest blog story, here are ring designs of Pro Athletes who have won at least one championship ring in at least two different sports. This shows how ring design differed during a specific time period in different sports. Please comment on the ring designs, or feel free to add other pro athletes who have won pro championship rings (not college or minor league stuff). (Click picture below for a larger picture) We all remember Deon Sanders as a great Cornerback in the NFL. He was better than Derrelle Revis and Richard Sherman. He also had great moments on the baseball field too. During the 1989 season, he hit a major league home run and scored a touchdown in the NFL in the same week, the only player ever to do so. Sanders is also the only man to play in both a Super Bowl and a World Series. Shown above are his World Series losing rings – called National League Championship rings, and his two Super Bowl rings – one with the San Francisco Forty Niners and one with the Dallas Cowboys. Sanders was a two time NFC defensive Player of the year (1993 and 1994) and an 8 time probowl player. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of fame and the College Football Hall of fame in 2011. Gene Conley won championships with the Milwaukee Braves and Boston Celtics. Here are the championship rings Conley, a four time baseball all-star, won: (Click picture below for a larger picture) Conley also played basketball for the Boston Celtics and won three championship rings with them. As you can see from the photo above, like the New York Yankees, the Celtics did not change the design of their championship rings during this time period.
  3. The Championship Rings From Super Bowl XIV Anyone want to comment about or talk about the design of these rings? In researching my latest blog story, I realized that compared to other NFC / AFC rings, the Rams ring was pretty bland compared to the other runner up rings designed before and around this time period. The Steelers ring design from Super Bowl XIV, was nothing to write home about either, despite their amazing accomplishment of 4 titles in 6 seasons.
  4. I am not a lawyer, but I can't imagine the NFL and the ring companies are pleased with the copies all over the market place. The NFL logos of the teams are copy-written and unless a replica ring is licensed or given out by the team, these rings and the selling of them can not possibly be legal. Most of these cheap replicas are made in China. When you say they are not publicly available, please note that most are easily found on ebay. How the NFL and ring companies allow this is a mystery to me.
  5. I recently saw this ESPN Magazine cover. Any opinions on the design of these Boston-themed Championship ring knockoffs? In my opinion, ESPN blew it! They could have made a historic magazine cover, showing authentic amazing championship rings, but instead photographed 4 incredibly cheap and inaccurate knockoffs championship rings. Do you think ESPN should have done a better job or am I being too harsh? Your thoughts? PS - The pats ring looks like the AFC championship ring from Super Bowl XLII but yet somehow says 2004 World Champions!
  6. The Championship Rings From Super Bowl XIII Here are the two rings from Super Bowl XIII: While we have been discussing the design of the Steelers ring, here is some information abou thte Cowboys ring: The Cowboys NFC ring was designed as a tribute to the Texas official state flower – the Bluebonnet. Because many collectors believe this is one of the ugliest conference championship rings, they tend to go for less money than other AFC and NFC championship rings. The Cowboys 1978 NFC ring was made by Jostens, in 10K yellow gold and weighs 35-36 grams.
  7. Here are some Yankee vintage rings: (Click picture below to see larger picture) Anyone want to talk about the design of New York Yankee Vintage Rings? The American League championship rings are easy to distinguish - they have the top-hat designs. The earlier rings were made by Dieges & Clust and then Balfour took over and made the rest. Shown above (starting with the bottom row and left to right) are World Series winning rings: 1927, 1938, 1939, 1949, 1952, 1953 (the "5"). Above those rings are the 1957 AL Championship ring, 1958 World Series winning ring, and the 1964 AL championship ring.
  8. New Photoshopped Super Bowl XLIX Ring Debuts on Twitter What do you think of this design? The championship ring's a stunner, obviously modified from a front office 2004 Super Bowl ring. It's highly doubtful this or a similar version will be presented to team players and coaches. The reason is that this championship ring would be substantially smaller in size than New England's last winning ring - the 2004 Super Bowl ring. The 2004 Super Bowl ring was gigantic, weighing in a little over 100 grams, in 14K white solid gold. Some front office employees received a non gold version (same color as the player's rings) with imitation diamonds that looked very similar to the ring shown above. Obviously, that championship ring had three large imitation diamonds and Lombardi trophies, not four as shown above. Perhaps, if the Patriots decide to offer a smaller front office ring again this year, the super bowl ring shown above could be very similar to what is ultimately presented to front office employees.
  9. Anyone want to talk about the design of the old time Yankee rings? Or Old-time World Series rings from other teams? Pictured below are authentic 1927 and 1938 Yankee Player World Series rings. The significance of the World Series rings above is that they are the first and last World Series rings Lou Gehrig won as a player. Although not Gehrig's actual rings, they offer a glimpse of what his rings looked like. More information about these Rings, and Gehrig's other rings are offered today on my blog.
  10. The Championship rings from Super Bowl XII. Anyone want to talk about the designs? The Cowboys ring shown above is one of my favorites - lots of bling, but a wearable size! The Broncos ring is nice - I love the way they captured the team colors!
  11. No disrespect to the ring - it's a beauty, but without large diamonds, these rings are not as costly to produce as some of those huge Super Bowl rings. The small diamonds cost so much less than larger ones. Ring looks to be made in 14K gold by Tiffany ("585" = 14K gold)
  12. Here Are Three of My Favorite Championship Ring Designs – What’s Yours? (Click picture below for a larger picture) It’s quite a challenge to narrow down the hundreds of championship rings that have been produced over the last 90 years to only three. In my humble opinion, I would estimate that 90-95% of championship ring designs are beautiful, and about 50% of those are masterpieces. 1) The 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers ring (maybe because it’s the one and only World Series ring the Dodgers ever won in Brooklyn). 2) The Patriots Super Bowl XXXIX ring. I’m no fan of the Patriots but that does not stop me from loving this ring – it’s simply amazing and dazzling. 3) The Red Wings 2002 Stanley Cup Champions ring – just beautiful style and use of colors…
  13. An Employee Wearing All Five Brady/Belichick Era Championship rings. Which is your favorite design? Mine is the barley visible, Super Bowl XXXIX ring - a true masterpiece! By the way, Patriot haters can have fun with this tweet if you google the recipient's last name and "Patriots".
  14. Anyone want to talk about the design of these two rings? The ring on the left is the Oakland Raiders first winning Super Bowl Ring from their 1976 season. No team has made the effort the Raiders have to keep their championship ring theme the same over the decades since the Super Bowl started. Boy, it's quiet around here. A couple of my posts have been deleted by a moderator, so I have not been as active posting in the past.
  15. Anyone want to comment about the design of the 1975 - Super Bowl X Rings?
  16. Any thoughts or comments on the design of these two rings from 1974? My one thought is that the Steelers ring is heavier, yet appears to be smaller than the Vikings ring. I have been told that sometimes a ring company can hollow out a solid gold ring, making it look bigger than it really is.
  17. With deflate-gate fallout still looming, I wonder if the NFL will put pressure on the Pats to cool it. Because of deflate gate this is not the year to be so flamboyant and break size records. Just my opinion. And please, don't use Herff Jones and Masers of Design like they did for their 2011 loss, go back to Jostens, they make the best Super bowl rings!
  18. I totally agree with the last two posters. I pointed out in my blog that the last ring this company made, the Super Bowl XXXII ring for the Broncos was way below the standards set by other ring companies (although the top of that ring) was much better than these two rough designs.
  19. Designs of the Next Super Bowl ring - Diamond Cutters International is one of four companies bidding to create the next Super Bowl ring Could one of these Championship Ring designs wind up being the next Super Bowl ring? Yes, one of these two Championship Ring designs shown above could be the next Super Bowl ring, if Houston based Diamond Cutters International wins the selection process. Of all the championship rings I have ever seen, in my humble opinion (and many in the jewelry and championship ring market-place agree), the design and making of the shanks (the sides) of the last Diamond Cutters International Super Bowl ring was awful - The Broncos Super Bowl XXXII ring. The Following year, after the Broncos repeated as World Champions, they awarded the Super Bowl ring contract to Jostens. Perhaps it's possible they were not thrilled with the quality of the ring sides. In my opinion, the ring sides were substantially improved when Jostens made the Super Bowl XXXIII ring for the Broncos. Check out my blog if you would like additional details on this story.
  20. The Championship Rings From Super Bowl VIII Continuing my blog series on the design of the two championship rings awarded from every single Super Bowl, here's the next installment. (Click picture below for a larger picture) The ring on the left is the Miami Dolphins second winning Super Bowl Ring from their 1973 season. Notice the championship ring also pays tribute to the 1972 undefeated season (17-0 when you count their playoff wins), with a second diamond and the "72" on the top left of the ring. Designed and manufactured by Jostens in 10K solid yellow gold, it contained two large diamonds and weighted in at 40 grams. One of the coolest things about the Dolphin championship rings from the 1970s is that the player's signature facsimile can be found inside the ring. In a tradition that continues to this day, the team that loses the Super Bowl is still recognized as a champion of their respective conference. The Minnesota Vikings championship ring from this game was made by Jostens in 10K yellow solid gold. The ring is also around 40 grams. Please excuse the broken horn on my Vikings mascot. Surprisingly, this is a common problem with these rings as other Viking rings have suffered the same fate.
  21. Will The Design of the Patriots Next Championship Ring Be Affected By Deflate-Gate? What do you ring people think? Many fans and Championship ring-enthusiasts feel it would be egregious for the NFL to allow (or look the other way) and have the Pats make a huge gorgeous championship ring celebrating this season’s accomplishments, after the team has once again tarnished themselves and the NFL. Perhaps someday soon we will actually will see this Super Bowl ring made – The cheap replica ring makers in China could easily reproduce this championship ring and sell it on eBay for under $100.00. Who knows, perhaps one day it could be a collectors item!
  22. Very funny! How about this one, did Tiffany steam their idea for a trophy from those old-time football phones?
