  1. Tennessee Volunteers Football Team Receives 2015 Championship Rings: The Vols championship ring, show above, looks remarkably similar to the Texas Rangers 2010 American League championship ring shown below: Although, (and much for the worse), the bowl game is now called the TaxSlayer bowl, the championship rings celebrate the big win with the original name, The Gator Bowl The Gator Bowl wording is featured on the top of the championship ring. However, as possibly mandated by the NCAA, the TaxSlayer Bowl logo is imprinted on one of the championship ring's sides.
  2. I love this championship College Hockey Ring: The Alberta Golden Bears have just won their 15th Collegiate Hockey National Championship and were awarded the championship ring shown above. The hockey team has won 15 National titles and their latest championship ring plays homage to that feat by listing each championship year. While these championship rings are a real eye-catcher, they are not made of solid gold or real diamonds. As you can see from the picture above, the rings are made by Jostens.
  3. That ring certainly appears much smaller than other CFL championship rings we have seen over the last few years. Thanks for sharing!
  4. Anyone want to discuss the design of the rings from Super Bowl XXII? Generally, I withhold criticism of championship rings, but the Redskins ring is awful! This is the first Super Bowl ring Tiffany and Company designed and produced for an NFL championship team. Here's why I dislike this ring: Small diamonds make up the two Lombardi trophies and the result is very sloppy. The two Lombardi trophies represent the Redskins two Super Bowl titles. Adding to the yuck factor, the red stones on the top of the ring are surrounded by large gold prongs that are too large. The visual combination of red and yellow giant prongs creates too much mish mosh and ruins the elegance and beauty of the championship ring. The shanks (sides of the rings) are unusual in their design. I like the style and think they are great, but perhaps other championship ring enthusiasts and collectors have a different opinion about the shanks. The ring was made in 10K solid yellow gold and weighs 50 grams. Tiffany made very few Super Bowl rings in the 80s and 90s, but started to become much more involved in making Championship rings in the last 15 years. The quality of their designs have improved dramatically since the debut of this ring. Anyone want to add their thoughts?
  5. I hope the moderator won't delete this post - it is a discussion about the design of the next Super Bowl ring (and the design of a protest ring too). I spoke to a Jostens official who I know, and he confirmed Jostens has been awarded the Patriots ring design. It should be making the headlines in another month or so. Meanwhile, do you feel the New England Patriots Super Bowl ring should buck the trend of being huge and perhaps for once, be understated, based on Deflategate? The Way Kraft is behaving, he will probably be defiant and make even bigger rings! Meanwhile, an angry football fan has started a Kickstarter campaign and wants to make the “Super Bowl ring” shown below, a symbol of Deflategate and a statement of how the Patriots tarnished their championship. The Indianapolis Colts fan wants to give the New England Patriots the ring he feels they deserve. His ring, made using 3-D printer technology, holds a real ball-inflation needle, the kind the NFL now believes was used in the infamous Deflategate game. Angry Colts fan Jacob Ayers, created the prototype shown below, to raise $750 on Kickstarter to manufacture these “championship rings.” So far, there are no backers for the campaign that ends May 31, but for a pledge of $50, Ayers will send rings to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and the entire Patriots team. Hopefully, fans of other teams, affected by this mess will also be able to buy these “Super Bowl” rings. Should the campaign fail to raise the appropriate funds to make this ring happen, at least the images have been picked up and used on social media. Your thoughts on his protest ring and if the Patriots should design and create a smaller ring due to all their bad press this off-season.
  6. Anyone want to discuss the design of the Super Bowl XXI rings. I wrote about both rings in-depth at my blog. The ring on the left is the New York Giants Super Bowl Ring from their 1986 season. Unlike the two Super Bowl rings preceding this example, the Giants ring contains less bling but more elegance. This is the first Super Bowl ring where the Lombardi trophy has such a prominent role in the championship ring and it’s a perfect theme for the Giant’s first Lombardi trophy. With Jostens making both of these championship rings, and both teams choosing a blue onyx stone, it appears that the stone color is identical in the two rings. This is the first example where both championship rings from the same season match. I love this photo since I was able to match the blue type and the rings look identical in gold and blue coloring. Four seasons later, the Giants went with a slightly lighter blue stone and the Bills (also a team that has blue in their official colors, opted to go with a red stone).
  7. Wow, look at the design on the side of this College Championship Ring. Is this a precursor to future Super Bowl Rings? We have a lot of pro football teams that have won four or more Super Bowl rings. As their individual championship numbers climb, a championship ring manufacturer can incorporate the Whitewater design into future super bowl rings and show off each Lombardi trophy and the year the championship was won. I hope we see this championship ring format again on future super bowl rings. I wrote about this ring in greater detail on my blog.
  8. I like it but why didn't they receive one when they won the title? Professional basketball was small-time, nothing like what it has become. Additionally, Syracuse is a small city and a small market. The owners could not afford to give out championship rings.
  9. Billy Gabor and his surviving teammates get NBA Championship Rings they earned 60 Years Ago. These rings were recently designed and awarded to the 1955 NBA Champions - Syracuse Nationals. Any comments about the design of the ring? I wrote a blog story and the very special gesture another Syracuse sports owner did to get the surviving players these rings.
  10. Anyone want to discuss the design of the 1985 NFL championship rings - and the Bears Super Bowl XX ring? In my humble opinion, the Bears championship ring was the nicest Super Bowl ring made up to this point. The ring had just the right balance of bling that players yearned for, and still clearly displayed their classic iconic logo.
  11. Anyone want to talk about this career championship ring? The shanks are not as nice as the Mantle ring, and the production run was limited to ten pieces. I know very little about this ring, but there are a few details about it on my blog. (Click picture below for a larger picture)
  12. Interesting that the design appears to be just like that of the '69 miracle Mets. By that, I mean the top of the ring (where the words are) is the only part that rises up above the fingers/hand. In other words The shanks are very low. The Mets ring is quite beautiful and massive, but I always felt that that particular design element kept it manageable/wearable. Just my guess, but I think im on target. This is a pretty ring, but I agree with you guys that it smacks of relatives/heirs wanting to cash in on his legacy...probably through an Auction. K Great observation - it is very similar to the Mets ring. The Mets used a slightly lighter blue onyx stone that matched their blue quite well!
  13. Anyone want to talk about the design of the Mickey Mantle Career Ring. It's a championship sized ring. The Mickey Mantle championship ring was fully authorized and licensed by the Mantle family and was designed and made by Balfour shortly after his death. Balfour has been designing every single Yankee championship ring for decades. (Click on the image below to bring up a larger image of the ring, shanks and box.)
  14. Anyone want to talk about the design of the next Super Bowl - the ring from Super Bowl XIX? The ring on the left is the San Francisco Forty Niners winning Super Bowl Ring from their 1984 season. This ring contains some major bling - two very large marquise diamonds (football shaped) make up each Lombardi trophy and adorn the top of the ring. The two Lombardi trophies are surrounded by many smaller diamonds. The 49ers Super Bowl XIX ring was designed and manufactured by Jostens in 10K solid yellow gold. The ring weighs in at approximately 44 grams. In a tradition that continues to this day, the team that loses the Super Bowl is recognized as a champion of their respective conference. The Miami Dolphin AFC championship ring shown above weighed in at 43 grams and contains five small diamonds - representing the team's five super bowl appearances. What I find most interesting about this ring is that the Dolphins used the gold metal background on top of the ring, opting not to do their usual team-colored aqua onyx stone as they had done with all their other championship rings in the past. Also of interest is that the Dolphins 1984 AFC championship ring started the run of 13 consecutive years where NFC teams won the super bowl. This means that my blog will be showcasing 13 consecutive NFC Super Bowl champion rings and 13 consecutive AFC championship rings. The Dolphins rings were designed and produced by Jostens in 10K yellow gold.
  15. As for the Raiders ring.....I think the ring you pictured is perhaps my favorite Super Bowl ring design commemorating a Third championship. The only other that might be tied in my mind is the 49'ers third SB championship ring with three little Lombardi Trophies in an oval of diamonds. In fact, the Niners ring was the inspiration for my own team's Rose Bowl ring that I helped design...but I digress. No, Al Davis did an excellent job on all his rings. He wanted his players to have a ring worthy of any occasion, such as having lunch with the Queen of England or some such thing, and I think he succeeded. You may not like the Raiders, but they sure made some purdy rings! And for the record, I LIKE the consistency of the Raider designs. I think it's a testament to having one owner who can influence such a thing. Or one family like the Rooneys in Pittsburgh, they also have had nice rings designed over the years (except for the Second one...it was, and is, hideous). While we are talking about Third Super Biwl rings, let me just give a shout-out to the Steelers third Championship where they incorporated their team logo with the design of the ring and the number of championships. Extra credit is awarded in my book. I know they were probably trying to one-up the Cowboys from the year before but still, it's an awesome design. Sincerely, Karl Hi Karl, I never heard the Raiders rings described as designed to be worthy for any occasion. I must agree - that description really sums up the raiders rings. Not too flashy, but very beautiful. They can hang with the bling-rings, but not be embarrassingly over gaudy. I really like that description. I do look at the Steeler rings and scratch my head. In my opinion, unlike the uniform nature of the Raiders rings, none of the Steeler rings match. It's almost like different groups within the Pittsburgh upper management help design each ring separately, or they went out of their way to completely re-do each design. If you line up the first 4 rings from the Steeler's 70s titles, none of them look similar or have a reoccurring theme (the only theme I see is that the first, third and fourth don't have traditional shanks, but have a more modern looking engraving on the sides. The 5th and 6th again, are very different from any ring we had seen before, and finally, their two AFC championships not only resulted in different looking rings, their last appearance in the Super Bowl actually resulted in a watch - not a ring!
  16. Baylor's new back-to-back Big 12 championship rings: Baylor's official Twitter feed unveiled the football team's 2014 Big 12 championship rings Monday. The tweet, also contained the motto "no pressure, no diamonds". I hope the team and media-person responsible for the tweet, know that the NCAA prohibits collegiate championship rings from being designed and made with real gold and real diamonds.
  17. Anyone want to talk about the design of the rings from Super Bowl XVIII? No team in sports made the effort that Al Davis did in keeping his championship rings as close to the same design over the years. This is evident when viewing their first AFL championship ring in 1967, all the way up to their final super bowl appearance in 2002. Although the Raider championship rings were always very similar in design, the world had never seen a championship ring like this before - three football-shaped diamond configurations on the top of the ring - symbolizing their three Super Bowl victories.
  18. Wow that's a stunning ring. Love the design Great looking ring - designed very similar to three super bowl rings: Cowboys XXVIII, 49ers, XXIV and the Ravens XLVII. Would anyone say it is the exact same mold as any of the three I mentioned above? To me, looks slightly different than the Ravens ring.
  19. Here is an authentic Career "Championship Ring" deigned by Balfour in celebration of his career. The ring was offered with a specially designed championship ring box with a glass top to display the ring and a signed ball with a painted picture of Joe. anyway want to comment or talk about this? PS - they were designed and limited to only 56 pices. I love this ring!!!! .
  20. Anyone want to discuss the design of these two rings: They are from Super Bowl XVII. The ring on the left is the Washington Redskins first winning Super Bowl Ring from their 1982 season. While no team had more super bowl victories than the 49ers in the 1980s (4 titles), the Redskins were the second most successful team, appearing in four super bowls (one of them was in the 90s) and winning three titles in a span of 10 seasons so get ready to see a few more Redskin championship rings in the upcoming blog series. The Redskins Super Bowl XVII ring show above, was designed and manufactured by Jostens in 10K solid yellow gold. The ring contains one large diamond and 16 smaller diamonds. The championship ring weighs in at approximately 46 grams. In my humble opinion, the Redskins design format is very similar to the 49ers ring made one year prior by Balfour. Had I been in charge, I would have designed a unique ring. The Redskins did go with this thinking for their next two Championship rings which were made by Tiffany and Company. Any thoughts or comments?
  21. Late tonight we'll know who'll be awarded a new Men's NCAA Basketball National Championship Ring. Here are Duke's basketball championship rings.... Any comments or thoughts about the design of the rings? Sorry the picture is not the best quality, it was the best one I could find.
  22. Anyone want to comment or discuss the designs of the Championship Rings From Super Bowl XVI? I am trying to picture and post the two rings from each super bowl. The ring on the left is the San Francisco 49ers first winning Super Bowl Ring from their 1981 season. No team had more super bowl victories than the 49ers in the 1980s (4 titles) so get ready to see a lot of Forty Niner Super Bowl rings in the upcoming blog series. The 49ers Super Bowl XVI ring show above, was designed and manufactured by Balfour in 10K solid yellow gold. The ring contains one large diamond and 16 smaller diamonds. The championship ring weighs in at approximately 46 grams. The Cincinnati Bengals AFC championship ring shown above lacked the bling that was becoming more prevalent with championship rings, however, no one could argue the ring isn't a beautiful and elegant design. The Bengals 1981 AFC ring was designed and produced by Jostens in 10K yellow gold and weighs 30 grams. Your thoughts and/or opinions?
  23. Anyone want to comment or discuss the designs of the Championship Rings From Super Bowl XV? I am trying to picture and post the two rings from each super bowl. The Eagles NFC championship ring shown above lacked the dazzle that was becoming so prevalent with championship rings, however, no one could argue the ring is a beautiful and classic design. Your thoughts?
  24. The side shank with the last name is awfully designed. They couldn't come up with some more items to place on that side?
