  1. The Giants Super Bowl XXI ring was a very classy, and elegant ring (shwon bottom right) Some of the players on the team, thought it needed more bling and a few of them used a local jeweler to bling it up (shown bottom left). Which design do the posters here like better? Me, I like the simple, original version better. Any thoughts?
  2. Thank you for your kind words.... yes, please don't remind me, lol, the insurance cost is high, but worth every penny. The rings are locked away at the bank vault and only taken out when it's time to take some pictures.
  3. Kubiak spent a single season as the qb coach for the 49ers. During that single season, he helped Young have an mvp season, and they won the Super bowl. So he was awarded the niners ring as the qb coach. the next season, I believe he was able to get a promotion and moved up the coaching ranks by working for another team. Kubiak is a rising star in the coaching ranks. To learn more about his career you can check out my blog from this week, or wikkipedia. Thanks for your kind words. Meanwhile, the rings shown in the picture are all magnificent. Which design do you like the most? As I said, that 49ers rings and all those large diamonds and trophies is my favorite.
  4. Gary Kubiak, head coach of the Broncos has his own amazing championship ring collection and win or lose, will be getting a new one. Anyone want to comment or discuss the design or details of his rings (shown below?). While I feel the Broncos Super Bowl ring from 1999 is gorgeous (shown below, front middle), there is something amazing about the 49ers last Super Bowl, the first ring to feature 5 Lombardi trophies with 5 marques diamonds.
  5. The relative size of the front row rings are correct, because every one of the rings in the picture were photographed by me and are player rings and 100% authentic. The rings in the top background might appear a hair larger had I moved them up to the same row as the front row (because objects get smaller when they are moved back). Yes the Broncos AFC ring is that big. When others (or me) compile ring photos and merge different pictures together, it's almost impossible to get the exact size right. Fortunately, I own just about every NFL championship ring since super bowl one (I am missing just two winners and NFC rings).
  6. To celebrate Super Bowl 50 week, and to honor the two teams that made it to the big game, here is a picture of all eight championship rings the teams have. Seven of the eight belong to the Broncos. Any comments, thoughts, or opinions on any of the designs of the eight rings?
  7. While the odds are low of the sb50 logo making it to the centerpiece, a nice way to pay tribute to super bowl 50, with a possible chance of happening, would be to return the ring to the color gold instead of white gold. The last yellow gold ring, was the Saints since that was one of the team's colors, back 6 years ago. since that time, every winning super bowl ring has been white gold.
  8. Eli Manning will be honored at the Super Bowl as a 2 time Super Bowl MVP and of course, older brother Peyton will be playing in his 4th Super Bowl. The Manning brothers, including Super Bowl 50, will have played in 6 Super Bowls! The five existing rings are shown below. Any thoughts of comments on the design of the championship rings shown below? My favorite is the Giants later Super Bowl ring, shown below with 4 Lombardi trophies.
  9. I know it's early to talk more about ring design and the NFL, as only two of the four remaining teams will have a shot for a new championship ring design (the two winners advance and are guaranteed a new championship ring). But here are some of the championship rings awarded from each team in the past. Any thoughts or comments about any of these rings (all made by Jostens) or about any ring designs that may come from this season? My main thought is that if the Patriots win the Super Bowl, there theme of huge rings with Lombardi trophies each containing a football-shaped diamond will probably continue and we will see the largest super bowl ring ever.
  10. With another Brady vs. Manning game looming, it's a great time to look at, and discuss the design of some of their Super Bowl and championship rings. Missing below is the Patriots Super Bowl 49 ring, (wish I had one) and the Colts 2009 AFC championship ring (an oversight on my part when taking the photo) Of interesting note, if the Patriots win Super Bowl 50, you can bet their new ring will be even larger and contain more bling than any of their other four Super Bowl rings. (Click on the picture below, to see a larger image of the rings)
  11. looks like a scam just to get us to go to her website that has nothing to do with sports rings thanks Ravens12, I appreciate you letting me know
  12. Proforbes, welcome to the site, glad you're with us! I went to the site link you posted, hoping to see a new championship ring blog. Did I misunderstand your post? When you said "that's why I started this blog" did you mean that's why you posted here, or did you start your own blog elsewhere? Please let me know as I would think it would be great to the hobby to have more ring people post blogs. Thanks!
  13. Looks like the NFL, the ultimate big-sports marketing machine, is paying tribute to the history and design of their past Super Bowl rings: This huge looking display piece will be heading to San Francisco to be on display at the NFL experience. You can see by the background and built in lighting in front of the display, that this prop is quite large. You can notice, that as usual, the rings are not displayed to scale size, as they all pretty much look the same size.
  14. The NY Times ran a very nice and comprehensive story on championship rings (mostly college football) this week. Much of the article is focused on the Design aspect and design trends in championship rings. Here's a photo and a link to the story. It's definitely worth reading! Here's the link.... http://www.nytimes.com/2016/01/10/sports/ncaafootball/as-college-footballs-popularity-expands-so-does-its-champions-jewelry.html?_r=0
  15. Wow, great analysis, and research! Thanks for sharing. You are so right about how competitive the design and manufacturing of championship rings has become. Jostens (and perhaps others too) was at the Winter Baseball Meetings in Nashville, pitching their services in the convention hall. They are there not only for the MLB clubs but for minor league baseball and all the thousands of executives that attended the show.
  16. When researching a blog entry for today about Tom Coughlin retiring, I realized the NY Giants have used three different ring companies, to design and manufacture their 4 Super Bowl rings (Jostens,Balfour and (2) by Tiffany). That had me thinking they were the only NFL team to use three different companies to help design their super bowl rings, but further research revealed that the Cowboys too, used three companies, (Balfour, Jostens and Diamond Masters). Tom's rings are shown below, and Yes, the ring on the left belongs, he was an assistant coach and Bill B. was on that staff too! And the picture shows the design evolution of Super Bowl rings over the decades. (click on the photo below to see a larger image....)
  17. I Absolutely ridiculous post I agree - the original reply was silly! The NFL team that wins is the World Champion. The NFL is not Arena football or College football. It is the best of the best.
  18. Anyone want to discuss the design of the championship rings from Superbowl XXXII? The ring on the left is the Denver Broncos Super Bowl Ring from their 1997 season. This ring was designed and manufactured by Diamond Cutters International in 14K solid yellow gold. (I really miss the days of championship rings in Yellow Gold). What makes this Super Bowl ring so unique is that the Broncos went with a smaller ring maker and while the top diamonds and logo are spectacular, the sides of the ring and even the words shown on top - "World Champions" is nowhere near as good as what Jostens, Balfour and Tiffany produce. What drives me and other championship ring enthusiasts crazy is how poor the sides look. When examining the ring, the sides look like replica rings and not a real super bowl ring. The Broncos championship ring weighs approximately 64 grams. The team that loses the Super Bowl is recognized as a champion of their respective conference. The Green Bay Packers 1997 NFC championship ring, shown above, was the first time since 1983 that a NFC team did not win the Super Bowl. (Think about that, what an amazing run by NFC teams). The Packers NFC championship ring weighs in at 42 grams. The championship ring contains one larger center diamond, 10 smaller diamonds surrounding it, and then four more diamonds on top. The ring was made by Jostens in 10K solid yellow gold.
  19. What do you think of the design of a championship ring that displays a team's record so prominently? Championship rings that show a team's won/loss record so prominently on the top of the ring are extremely rare - I can't think of another instance where a championship ring was designed to show off a team's record in this manner. Can anyone show some others that have been designed and made like the ring on the left? I must say, I like it, and why not display their undefeated record?
  20. Which design to do you like the best? Me, I like the one on the right, kind of pops more than the other two!
  21. Let's discuss the design of the Seattle Seahawks Last two Championship rings: Did Seattle Get Their 2014 NFC Championship Ring All Wrong? The photo above provides the opportunity to compare the Seattle 2013 and 2014 Championship Rings Side-By-Side. The results are surprising: I always imaged, that when I finally had the chance to see the two Seattle Seahawks championship together, I'd see they were the same basic size (or footprint if you will). While that last second loss in Super Bowl XLIX was disheartening for players, staff and Seahawks fans, it would make complete sense to create a similar size ring that could be worn side-by-side. The two championship rings, would be seen as a story, a great accomplishment of playing in two super bowls in a row. Very few teams accomplish playing in back-to-back Super Bowls, and from a championship ring perspective, when this happens, the teams seem to never capitalize on the chance to have a single-theme pair of championship rings. You can argue that the Buffalo Bills came close, in the 1990s, their four in a row AFC championship rings were similar, yet different. I had to think hard and go way back to the Miami Dolphins Super Bowl rings of 1971 (they lost to the Cowboys) and then their two winning Super Bowl rings the following two seasons to find championship rings that had a very common look and feel. Worse than blowing a chance for the Seahawks to match their Super Bowl ring in size, their 2014 NFC championship ring is some-what unimpressive in person: What I thought must have been tiny tiny diamonds, turned out to be a bumpy white gold texture that when hit with light from the room or sun, sparkles but not from diamonds. The 2014 NFC championship ring has a few tiny diamonds, and is smaller than their 2013 Super Bowl ring (which by the way, was also considered small, when compared to other teams recent Super Bowl rings). The 2014 Seattle Seahawks ring was designed and manufactured by Tiffany in 14K white. gold. The championship ring weighs in at 60 grams. The photo above is perhaps the first time the world is getting to see the two championship rings side by side. Let me know what you think!
  22. Anyone want to discuss the design of the Super Bowl XXXI rings or the 1996 AFC Championship ring? The ring on the left is the Green Bay Packers Super Bowl Ring from their 1996 season. This ring was designed and manufactured by Jostens in 10K solid yellow gold. (I really miss the days of championship rings in Yellow Gold). What makes this Super Bowl ring so special is that the Packers had not won a Super Bowl or even appeared in one since the days of the first two title games back in the late 1960s. While the top of this championship ring is a beauty, the side shanks leave much to be desired. The championship ring weighs approximately 50 grams. While that weight is about half the weight of the Cowboys Super Bowl ring from the season before, the Packers ring appears to be quite large, so perhaps the inside of the ring is a bit hollow to allow it to appear so large. The New England Patriots 1996 AFC championship ring, shown above, in my opinion, is so-so, and certainly not the kind of championship ring bling design that we would see from Robert Kraft within five years. The Patriots AFC championship ring weighs in at 42 grams (like the Packers ring from 1996, significantly lighter than the prior year's AFC championship ring). The Patriots AFC championship ring was designed and made by Jostens in solid yellow 10K gold. An interesting side note about these two championship rings from Super Bowl XXXI: Jostens made both rings, and they are not in the business of making championship ring boxes. They must have used a new vendor (or had their subcontractor create a new style ) because both boxes are the same size and style and they are much larger and very different than any other championship ring box I've seen before or since. Perhaps things did not work out with the supplier, because as great as these championship ring boxes are, Jostens seemed to abruptly stop using this particular ring box. Any thoughts or opinions on these two rings?
  23. Anyone want to talk about the ring designs from Super Bowl XXX? The ring on the left is the Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl Ring from their 1995 season. This ring was designed and manufactured by a company called Diamond Cutters in 14K solid yellow gold. I believe when this ring was designed and manufactured, it was labeled as largest Super Bowl ring ever. Like the 49ers Super Bowl ring from the season before, it was designed with five massive marquis diamonds - each commemorating a Cowboys Super Bowl championship. While at the time this championship ring was crafted, the vast majority of Super Bowl rings were made by Jostens and Balfour. That's still true today as long as you now include Tiffany & Company in the mix. The Cowboys chose Diamond Cutters for this championship ring and they paid the price - by getting a ring that had very poorly made shanks (sides of the ring). While the top is stunning, the sides, in my opinion, and the opinion shared by most championship ring enthusiasts, look like a knock off ring. The wording is not crisp, and over time, the 14K wears down from constant wearing of the ring and this adds to the poor look. Just like with he Forty Niners from the season before, no one knew at the time the Cowboys would enter into a Super Bowl drought and not be back in the title game since. Both the Forty Niners and the Cowboys, now for about two decades are still waiting for their next Super Bowl ring. The team that loses the Super Bowl is recognized as a champion of their respective conference. The Pittsburgh Steelers 1995 AFC championship ring, shown above, is a very nicely designed ring. The Steelers AFC championship ring weighs in at 50 grams and contains a large diamond surrounded by plenty of smaller diamonds. The Steelers AFC championship ring was designed and made by Jostens in solid yellow 10K gold. I really like the look of this ring, especially the way the Steelers helmet is shown on the side, in the colors, black, gold, and the three colors found in the team logo. The color adds a nice touch and so does the player's uniform number, inserted onto the helmet, just like it's seen on the real helmets. To see the side view of this championship ring, please visit my Super Bowl gallery link, located at my website's main page. Any comments about these two rings?
  24. A must watch championship ring video: The championship ring themed YouTube video, has become quite popular. The short video, appropriately titled, “Geno Auriemma: Lord of the Rings,” is comical and shows women’s Coach Geno Auriemma talking about not spending too much time thinking about his 10 wins. While he mentions that “the past is in the past,” Auriemma is shown in the video wearing a championship ring on each of his 10 fingers. At some point, I don’t know a single championship ring collector with ten or more rigs who hasn’t done the same thing! Two sports legends with plenty of championship rings, Bill Russell and Yogi Berra, have famous photos of them wearing rings on each fingers too. In the video, Auriemma struggles with simple daily tasks because the championship rings get in the way. You see him challenged to get his cell phone out of his pocket, or giving Jonathan the Husky mascot a high five. Here’s the link for the video: http://www.wfsb.com/story/30440882/uconn-video-showcases-auriemmas-10-wins-and-rings#ixzz3qc3q1knq
