I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a few LED courts next year, especially for some of the NBA Cup games, ASG and maybe a team or two for a trial run in regular season games. I think this is cool and opens many possibilities for some cool alternate and even throwback courts.

With the recent chatter in the news about putting the A’s on hiatus until their Las Vegas stadium is done, and some comments on here about a temporary team to fill in the gap, it honestly wouldn’t surprise me if MLB pushed Fisher to sell the A’s to Big League Utah while granting him an all-new expansion team in Vegas. Obviously SLC would need to figure out funding for the MLB stadium, but they almost seem to have a better plan there than Vegas at the moment.

Salt Lake gets their team and Vegas gets time to figure out their stadium/funding, getting a new team of their own. No one goes on hiatus (unless Fisher wants the A’s brand/records and wants to do some form of Browns/Ravens situation).

I feel like this is the position that the Miller Group has tried to put themselves into, because it's not a guarantee that they'd get an expansion team, especially if western cities like Portland and Vegas are on a short list.

It's kind of the position that the Smith Group is putting themselves into with the NHL in hopes to get the Coyotes or other relocated team.

Sounds like an excellent idea although I wonder if they draw a FIBA 3pt line for Sabrina or both will use NBA one. Also if they want that to be fair both of them should use 3x3 Ball instead of regular size 6 and 7.

According to the ESPN article that just came out looks like respective lines and basketballs will be used.

    Quote

The Warriors' Curry will shoot from the NBA 3-point line with NBA basketballs while the Liberty's Ionescu will shoot from the WNBA 3-point line with WNBA basketballs.

I don't know a single Jazz fan that misses or likes the Boozer/Williams set

Oh, no I hate those jerseys, I'm just saying the demand for this or that throwback follows a trend of nostalgia. But, I'll always be a fan of the Jazz note logo, never a big fan of the 90s or 00s look.

It's a small market that already has one very well-entrenched team playing a sport that's well-entrenched in the church. Resources are finite and I just don't know how you make Salt Lake City a two-sport town with the two sports running concurrently, especially when one is basketball.

So which would be better for SLC? Getting a relocated Coyotes or an expansion franchise?

Yeah, my worry would be the profitability of two professional teams playing concurrently and in the same arena. If they build the new area near the point of the mountain at the prison site it could draw fans from both Utah and SL Counties? Do I think it's doable? Sure. But, I do feel like a relocated team over expansion would be the route, especially if it's Arizona.

Still the best Jazz uniform set in their history. This ain't up for debate.

Even that black alternate...perfect change of pace for the primary home and aways at the time.

Just bite the bullet and bring 'em back permanently, Utah. Just gon' and do it already...

Nope. Too dated. It's 100% 90s nostalgia just like the green jerseys were 10 years ago. In about 5-10 years us Jazz fans will be clamoring for these ...

Was the Jazz the biggest flop/most tone deaf rebrand of all time?

Eh. I wouldn't call it a flop. It definitely wasn't thought all the way through. I don't mind the colors that much, the design is just bad. Too plain. Sure there's the note jersey, but it just doesn't feel like the Jazz. I think if you add purple as a main color that'd work really well.

It was the big story around town yesterday. Currently, the AAA Bees plan to leave Smith’s Ballpark after the 2024 PCL season for the new stadium in Daybreak (on the southwest corner of the Salt Lake Valley) in 2025, but that still-under-construction ballpark is what the A’s are eyeing. Aside from a smaller capacity, the new ballpark as planned will have the facilities a Major League team needs, with separated bullpens and batting cages for both home and visiting teams. There’s not much of a geographic footprint to expand on at Smith’s Ballpark without tearing down nearby homes, either.

The seating capacity at the new park would be temporarily expanded from its planned 7,500 to about 11,000 for the A’s while the Bees remain at Smith’s Ballpark for the duration of their layover in Salt Lake.

    https://kslsports.com/510099/does-having-two-stadiums-give-salt-lake-city-edge-to-temporarily-land-as/

Of course, I can see a (not very likely) situation where funding for the Vegas stadium is delayed or falls through and Fisher is forced to sell the A’s to the Big League Utah group (while being granted a Las Vegas franchise), who in turn would build their planned Power District stadium west of downtown Salt Lake.

Living close to Daybreak I'd LOVE for the stadium to house the A's to temporarily call the new stadium home. But, I think the most logical place will be the Las Vegas Ballpark IF the move is finalized. I have a hard time seeing anything else, especially because the A's will need to win fans over. This is definitely the LHM Group playing their cards, showing interest in hosting, etc. to be next in line for an expansion team.

    HOWEVER.

I think there's more to this than just being next in line. I think the LHM Group is also putting themselves in position to either buy (buy into the A's) to have them relocate to SLC. They can easily play in Daybreak until the new stadium is built, while the Bees either share Daybreak with the A's or, more likely, extend their contract for a couple more years at Smith's Ballpark.  I'd much rather the A's (or established team) then an expansion team and with each passing day the A's to Vegas does seem a little bit less likely.

I think marquee dates are the time to keep it traditional and showcase your best and most solid look, which I was pleasantly surprised they went back to this year (except for Miami and Philly being backwards). The Celtics wearing all the red accessories with a green jersey was a clever nod to the holiday while still looking like their normal selves, and not like the Seattle Sonics or the silly Christmas card script or whatever. It's not the time to see the Miami Viceheat or whatever mystery color Golden State's doing this year and so on. Much like how the NFL doesn't throw out Thanksgiving-theme alternates; it's just the usual look or, maybe, an appropriate throwback. The whole spectacle of the NHL Winter Classic makes that one a little different, but the core idea is the same and the way the early Stadium Series cookie-cutter uniforms fell flat kinda proves the rule.

I don't mind a one-off jersey, save that it's not ridiculous (or sleeved). But, with that said, I did like the Green/Red matchups teams have done in the past ...

I'm expecting just another white vs. yellow game given the precedent, no? Just not sure which team will wear which color.

Hopefully it's the Lakers in yellow and Pacers in white. Not that it's my favorite matchup, but keeping the Lakers in yellow is optimal.

Sorry for the double post here but all of this is getting more confounding the more I think about it. Why is the court blue and red -- and candidly, hideous shades of both of those colors -- when the entire tournament branding has been hitting us over the head with black and metallic gold? And if you're going to push the City uniforms as effective primary uniforms for this tournament, why would you not ensure that that initiative works in harmony with your court initiative for same?

Everything about this In-Season Tournament feels undercooked by half.

I kind of give them a pass with the undercooked imagery based off the short turnaround. But, I agree with you on the court. It's red and blue I feel because of the NBA logo. It should be black and gold based off the promotions and tie into Vegas as well as the VGK.

I also don't understand why black would clash with the R,W&B court?

So it will be Lakers vs. Pelicans in the in season tournament semifinal, and both of their city/in season tournament uniforms are black. Does that mean one team won’t be wearing their in season tournament uniform in the semi? lol lol

Most of the matchups have been City (Home) vs. Association (White). I'll give them a pass this year just because of the late approval of the tournament. But, they should have clash set next year for the cup games.

They should play one outside and call it the Winter Classic. 😏

I'm slightly surprised that the NBA hasn't done at least a "Stadium Series" with a number of domed stadiums in NBA markets (ie-Superdome, AT&T Stadium, SoFi Stadium, etc.). You'd think if the NHL can fill a stadium the NBA should be able to in the right market.

  14. Going into the knockout stage of the tourney I have a few thoughts ...

    1) I am a fan of the tournament. It really gives a purpose to games that even as a fan of the game I don't bother to track during this part of the season. I do feel like they should shift the games closer to Christmas and maybe do the Final on Christmas Day? Just a thought.

    2) As panned as some of the courts have been, I understand the reasoning, especially marketing behind it. These games are different and to the most casual of fans you understand that even when you see highlights or a flash of a game while flipping channels. I think they should keep loud or unusual courts a tradition for the tourney games ... just please take more time on the concept stage.

    3) It sounds like next year we're going to get tourney-specific jerseys. Here are some thoughts of those ...

    • As much as we don't need ANOTHER jersey in some team's rotations, I support it ... as long as the jerseys are ONLY worn during tourney games. I think they could have some fun with it too.
    • Tourney games, especially Group games should be "Color vs. Color." I've hated that most Tourney games have been the home team in the City Jersey and the opponent in their Association white jerseys. You should be able to have at least five clashing jerseys per group. Then in the knockout round you could go color vs. color with maybe a clash set (just not the regular white jersey) IF needed?
    • You could base the tourney jerseys on a template like Christmas games were the last few years with Adidas? Perhaps a throwback or fauxback style like the NBA Remix/NHL Reverse Retro? It should be special, fun and loud IMO, especially if that's the route the league goes with the tourney. Maybe even take the concept of the City Jerseys and use them for just the tourney games?

It will also be interesting to see if they move the Final Four games to other locations, especially if Vegas gets a NBA team? Madison Square Garden? New Orleans? Miami? Phoenix? Could also be attraction locations?

    Just a few thoughts.

It's actually one of my favorite City designs. I'm not that crazy about the Indy wordmark, but they remind me of the '90s prototypes with the teal/light blue.
