Does a kid in diapers need to attend a pro sporting event?
Considering the child's father works in professional sports, yeah.

Devil's advocate - what do you need to bring to a game that needs to go in a bag?
As a father of a kid still in diapers, 6x4 is an absurd limit. Unless the venue is going to supply diapers and wipes (at a minimum!) free of charge, they've got to allow bags big enough to accommodate parents.
What happened to 12x12x6 being the industry standard? They just changed the policy at FedEx Forum to 6x8x2, but they didn't do anything about my more reasonably-sized 12x12 bag to the game I went to last month. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The Grizzlies doing it is just weird, I don't associate Memphis with street ball.
As someone from west TN and who lived in the Memph-ish area for nearly a decade, I can say this court concept does fit locally.

Looks like I probably won't get the rebrand I was hoping for
I am 99.9% sure that is a decal and not an actual court. Zooming in on this photo, and I see zero depth to the "wood." There are also no media boundary markings on the end lines, and the baskets are "hanging" off the court. That sucker is flush with the concrete.
Not to mention, but the wood texture looks fake, and the design is honestly too conservative to actually be used by the Clippers. This is likely just for the press conference, which has been noted to be to announce an ASG.

i know "tradition" and all, but if nike was insistent on this template, why didn't they just go to full pullovers instead of button-downs? button down jerseys don't really serve much in the way of in-game function, and i'd venture to say that it may even hurt them in retail. i don't know, seems wild that of all the innovation and everything, we still go with buttons because that how it was done for the majority of the game's history.
This is anecdotal, but I work for a Minor League team. When we run auctions on game-worn jerseys, the button-down designs consistently do better than pullovers. I think it seems more "authentic" or premium because of both the tradition of button-down baseball jerseys and the construction adding a perceived quality, kind of like stitched numbers vs. heat pressed.

The Predators issue isn't the use of gold at home, that was a brilliant move that has really helped their brand stand out. It's ridiculously bland jerseys, with nondescript, minimalist striping. Time has shown that maybe getting rid of silver entirely wasn't the best idea either. Still, they are very close to a great design and in my opinion, the solution lies between these two designs... Surely there's the potential for the perfect Predators jersey there.
Go with their second Reverse Retro template, but modernize the number font, *maybe* tweak the modern crest to add silver somehow, and wear a navy bucket. (Photo for reference; I'm not Photoshopping it right now.)
10 hours ago, ruttep said:I agree that the Preds' minimalist design is the main issue here, but I'll reiterate that I don't like yellow as a jersey color because it doesn't work as a light jersey or a dark jersey. Wear it against white, the game looks too light. Wear it against a color jersey, the game looks too dark.
I honestly didn't think this was a problem when they wore navy helmets at home, the first few years after the rebrand.

Nashville Predators honored former-GM David Poile with a banner on Wednesday night:
Couldn't find a clean photo of just the banner, but it matches the style of the Pekka Rinne banner installed previously with the initials "DP" in place of the jersey number:

Honestly been wanting the Preds to wear their gold buckets on the road with the white jerseys (and bring back navy helmets at home). So I'm okay with this!

I've shifted to Japan and NPB. It reminds me of how baseball used to be for me as a kid and I love it AND then you add on the fun of a soccer crowd to it.
Pitchers batting, interleague only a month or so in the season. It's wonderful.
Assuming you are in the States, how are you watching NPB games?

The Bally RSNs have debuted a new graphics package for the NBA middle-of-the-season Tournament. Bumpers and whatnot feature the team logos on 3D gold basketballs on what I'd describe as one of those tabletop planetary movement models, like this:
(Google says this is called an orrery!)
Most notably, the full-width scorebug has gone into dark mode, which makes it a little more bearable IMO.

Video of how it looks on a broadcast:
Looks pretty good to me. I like the idea of having a special jersey to wear against Original 6 opponents in the centennial season, although I still wish they brought out one-off throwbacks to match each of their "era nights."
When's the last time there was an NHL regular season game with both teams wearing dark helmets? I'm getting flashbacks to my days working in the SPHL, where every team had just one set of buckets, and most likely black or blue.

I'm not where I can screenshot at the moment, but check out around the 1:28 mark of this video:

Assuming these are actual concepts from the process, they explored quite a few directions for this rebrand, from an orca-centric crest to the cliché MLS roundel with the former Space Needle art.
I think y'all have nailed the analysis. This is a very good modernization of a loved-but-flawed crest with slightly better colors. The alternate marks are stellar. Merch will be much improved, including this shirt I need to order very soon:

Feels like a push, but then factor in that Nashville's going to get that new stadium which Chicago probably isn't.
I mean, I wouldn't count on that.

I think it depends. Some are painted, some are the tarp things (which is typically what the ice ads are). I know the Ducks and Flames paint theirs.
It's better described as a mesh material with fine holes, which lays flat easier while building up the ice.

I got an email the other day from the Tennessee Titans announcing that Nissan Stadium would be moving away from Ticketmaster and replacing it with SeatGeek. Interestingly, they announced the change on their website, sent an email blast to ticket buyers, but did not share this info on their social channels at all. There's no obvious indication that this is a result of the Taylor Swift debacle, but I would assume it's a factor since the venue is hosting three of her shows this summer.
In the non-sports realm, Kings Theatre in Brooklyn is switching from TM to British theatre ticket company ATG. Can't find the post now, but I thought I saw something about the recent TM issues being a factor.
Has anyone else noted other venues, sporting or otherwise, dropping Ticketmaster?

They are currently still scheduled to play at Huntsville on Friday. Although last Friday the SPHL announced only a few hours before puck drop of the opponent change for Quad City, so if the league pulls off the same stunt on Friday I wouldnt be surprised.

Oddly enough, still no word from the league. From an AP write up:
QuoteMultiple messages seeking details, clarification and comment on the situation Sunday and moving forward sent to the SPHL, the team and owner Ellen Tully were not returned.

Yeah, the VC Bobcats are (and apparently have always been) an absolute dumpster fire. They've had issues with their building and ice, and at the beginning of this season they went off on specific people in building management on the team's Facebook page. And I just learned by reading their Wikipedia page that they had at least 4 head coaches in the 2021-22 season, including Hurricanes EBUG legend David Ayres.
I've also seen reports of their players already legally voiding their contracts, moving on, etc. Abject disaster.
When's the last time a professional team (or unprofessionally-run team in a professional league) folded midseason?

I'm very pro-throwback, but a great road jersey at home is a no-go for me. What if the opponent doesnt have a colored top? Would they wear white? Obviously you can schedule around that, but still, this feels vile.
Not my team, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

FWIW, I work for a Minor League team, and there was discussion about a team wanting to wear a grey throwback jersey at home. So it's at least now a rule in MiLB, so I would hope that would also apply to the Majors since they control the whole system now.

I work for an MiLB team, and my wife brings the boys to games because it's a fun thing to do with family. Our ballpark has a splash pad, so a change of clothes is a necessity, even for the one not in diapers. And when I'm not working, we go to games elsewhere, so things like ear protection for the kids are good to have. A bag is always necessary.
Point is, parents take kids to events. Unreasonable bag limits like the Bruins' new policy just add another barrier to entry. I get requiring clear bags and banning larger bags for safety reasons, but there was nothing wrong with the 12x12x6 standard.
