Here's another "Right team, wrong uniform" entry: Rod Smith, the great Broncos receiver, spent his first two seasons in the Orange Crush Broncos set, which happened to be the last two years of that set. To me, he's best known for the 'Nikefied' look.

The great Buffalo Bills receiver Andre Reed as a Washington Redskin in his last year, 2000. He was reunited with Bruce Smith that year.

One of the first legit stars the Vancouver Canucks had, Harold Snepsts, in the later years of his career, wore the other two iterations of the jerseys worn with the 'skate' logo (he is best known wearing the 'Flying-V' jerseys, and the blue/green ones that came before it).

He played one full season in this jersey set, before they changed it to....

..this one, in which he played all of 39 games in this set before he was traded to the St. Louis Blues. So this is a two-fer in the 'Right team, wrong uniform' department.

Also a "Right team, wrong uniform" entry: Drew Bledsoe, who was replaced by you-know-who, spent two seasons in the Pats' current look. (Hard to believe that look has been in use for 15+ years now.... it is a modern classic.)

That is Tony Tanti, best known for his years with the Vancouver Canucks, wearing their 1990s set (first introduced in the 1989-90 season); he spent half the season (41 games, to be exact) in that set before he was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

^ I feel that the 1986-87 set was the best worn by the Chargers.

Right team, wrong uniform design: Doug Gilmour joined the Toronto Maple Leafs halfway into the 1991-92 season, the last that the Leafs wore the Harold Ballard-era design. He played 40 games total in that set; they changed their style the next year.

Let's not forget the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on this list, too.

Two for me:
-I liked the addition of the front numbers on the upper right side of NHL jerseys; but now with the numbers on the helmets, they just seem superfluous.

-I wouldn't mind seeing a few baseball teams adopt the pullover-style jerseys; I mean, I am not as adamant about this, but baseball, despite its very tradition-bound ways, should be progressive in some ways. This is one of those areas where I'd like to see it happen.

The two above times, both first-year teams met the lower two uniform sets for the only times in 1977.

Only one pic, but in the 1995-96 season, the original Minnesota Timberwolves getup met the new Seattle Supersonics (pictured here) uni/logo set, and the first-year Vancouver Grizzlies and Toronto Raptors. I do not have any pics for the other two matchups.

A while back, I touched on the Orlando Magic's inagural season (1989-90) being the only times they met "striped" New Jersey Nets; the same can be said of the old Indiana Pacers before their uniforms were overhauled by Flo-Jo the following season; I have no game pics of those meetings.

That same season (1995-96); these two uniforms also coincided for one season as well (five games, to be exact). No game action pics, again.

Amazing how in the second photo, the TV numbers are honkin' huge! The Jets also had similarly-sized TV numbers in that period.

^ Said it before, and I'll say it again about the Bills helmets: The grey facemask ruins everything. And I'll say this again, too: Make the facemask blue, then you have something solid.

The above two uniform sets coincided for one season only (for two games, to be exact) in the 1995-96 season. I was unable to track down any game pics.

^ Actually, the Ducks met the Bruins for the first time on October 15, 1993, and made their only trek to the Old Boston Garden on March 23, 1994, so that above uniform set did see the white jersey that one time; I have no pics from that latter matchup.

The same can be said of this matchup:

These two uniform sets only coincided for two games in February 1994; the first-year Mighty Ducks and Quebec Nordiques.

One more rare one: The first-year Colorado Avalanche (successors to the Nordiques) met the Winnipeg Jets 1.0 for four games during the 1995-96 season, and for those four games only. No pics, yet.

^ Odd to see Bartkowski not wearing his famous Riddell BD-9 'duckbill' facemask; that was my fave facemask- made him look badass.

Another rarity: These two uniform sets, the last year of the Denver Nuggets "rainbow" set and the first year of the Phoenix Suns' first-genration "sunburst" unis coincided in the 1992-93 season only (for four games at that).

It is. Pretty odd to see a non-kicker wearing mismatching shoes, though....

A BC Lions two-fer:

For Doug Flutie, the BC Lions were merely a springboard to his CFL success during his two season stay with the team (1990-91).

The great "New York Sack Exchange" artist Mark Gastineau attempted a comeback (and was also a teammate of Flutie's) in 1990; it lasted all of four games.

Another rarity: The Vancouver Canucks third-generation 'flying skate' uniform set (BONUS: the third jersey pictured worn in the last two years of that uniform set) met the first-year Phoenix Coyotes for only one season (four games, to be exact) in the 1996-97 season.

Also cannot find game pics, but the 1997-98 NHL season witnessed the only meetings (two games, to be exact) between the first-year Carolina Hurricanes and the last year of the Gretzky-era Los Angeles Kings uniform set.

These two uniform sets coincided for only one season (and for eight games) during the 1989-90 season. I cannot find any in-game pics.
