rmackman
I did something like this a few years ago, and it proved to be interesting. If you see a company blatantly ripping off a sports logo, post it here. This medical group absolutely "borrowed" the Hartford Whalers logo as inspiration: "Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be eaten. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle. When the sun comes up, you'd better be running." - Unknown | Check out my articles on jerseys at Bacon Sports
missouri tigers
I'm not so sure the link you posted is the best example of this. It seems entirely possible the the designer came up with this solution without being influenced by the Whalers' logo.

Gothamite
I'd say it's more than possible, it's very likely to be a coincidence. The similarities are passing. And even if we grant "inspired by", that's very different from "rip off." Strange Brew was inspired by Hamlet, but that doesn't mean they ripped off Shakespeare. The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog.
48erhater
I don't know who ripped off who here. Electric Snowboard. But it's just like the Tampa Bay Lightning logo from a different angle.
