Will's You Make The Call #15

The Denver Broncos and Oakland Raiders are knotted at 0 late in the first quarter. With four seconds left in the quarter, Denver has the ball, fourth and six, at the Raiders' 42 yard line. Denver is driving towards the south end zone, with a 20 MPH wind at their backs, so Mike Shanahan sends out kicker Jason Elam to attempt a 59-yard field goal. The kick ends up hitting the left upright and falling, no good. Time expires during the kick.

On the play, Napoleon Harris is called for running into the kicker. Assuming the penalty is accepted, what is the down, distance, and direction?

It's now 4th and One on the Raiders 37 yard line going the same direction. There is no time on the clock, it is played as a single un-timed down.

It's also now a 55 yard FG attempt.

EDIT - I miss read the quarter.

2nd Quarter, time is 15:00

It's 4th and one on the Raiders 37 going North now with the wind in Elam's face, it would be a 54 yd FG attempt.

An intelligent coach would run a QB sneak (having Plummer and all) on 4th and one with the 20mph wind in their face.

I can't remember whether or not running into the kicker is still separate from roughing the kicker, but here goes:

It's still Denver's ball, 4th and 1 from the Oakland 37. Only a 5-yard penalty for running into the kicker, as opposed to a 15-yd roughing the kicker (personal foul, automatic first down). The period will be extended for one untimed down during a play where there is a defensive penalty and time expires. So Denver gets another try for the figgie with the wind still at its back.
