Great site!I remember the days when you knew a player by his football helmet, or at least his position. Buddy Bell-Cheifs' had the full cage, Roger Staubach (and many other QBs) 2 bar facemask. In my mind, Emmitt Smith really put the facemask with the wide bars, refered to as EGOP style in the Schutt Sports Catalog.Kickers always had one bar - Packer's Ray Nitchke's full cage was great! I agree with the ESPN article, that too many players look the same, stamped out of the same mold. But the facemasks provide better protection and are designed better for that protection - so why try to fix something that ain't broke. Neat article.
