The uniform concepts are great. I've always been partial to sashes and these do look great. Nice colors too.

Forget about the date for a second. I'll give you a better reason as to why it works better than a 'modern' ball.

It fits asthetically with the home uniform. The striping pattern is similar, and the classic ball goes together better than one with pentagon shapes.

Most current professional balls don't use the hexagon/pentagon stiching, and actually look a lot closer to the classic style.

Put aside for a moment that I think soccer balls of any style in a club logo tends to look goofy.
