NJTank
For those who have nevr heard the story Fritz Peterson and Mike Kekich were two Yankee pictehrs in 1973 who arrived at Spring Trainning with the news they swaped wives. The story caused a stor that spring as Kekich was traded away during the season.StoryHow would this be received if two teammates made this announcement today?Note: This is the start of a n occasional thing I would like to do as we debate on how past events would be looked if it happened today www.sportsecyclopedia.com For the best in sports history go to the Sports E-Cyclopedia at http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com
CaolinaJoe
Isn't this the basic premise of some reality TV out there right now? "It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of thepress. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom ofspeech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given usthe freedom to demonstrate. And it is the soldier who salutes theflag, serves beneath the flag, whose coffin is draped by the flag, andwho allows the protester to burn the flag."Marine Chaplain Dennis Edward O' Brien
Stampman
If it's not it probably will be-- just another reason I would avoid so-called reality TV shows... Comic Sans walks into a bar, and the bartender says, "Sorry, we don't serve your type here."
jr79
I think the reaction would be a little different... perhaps slightly less moral outrage as divorce rates are now higher and society more open about these topics, (albeit not with the weird wife-swapping twist that could offend lots of people still), but there would be more coverage because we basically have an extra media outlet now in the form of the net to cover it and bring sports fans together to make wisecracks about it for months afterwards.Imagine ESPN's Page 2 after something like this? Recurring gags for their writers for a good few weeks.
jkrdevil
Let's see Spring Training when there are a ton of writers and little to report plus a story made for the Tabloids. The equals a Media Circus.
