Vizquel was extra animated in a 1998 intrasquad game after homering off Mesa, and Mesa came back the following year as a Mariner and brushed back Vizquel. Words were exchanged at the time. The book elevated the tension. In "Omar! My Life On and Off the Field," Vizquel writes about Mesa blowing Game 7: "The eyes of the world were focused on every move we made. Unfortunately, Jose's own eyes were vacant. Completely empty. Nobody home. You could almost see right through him. Not long after I looked into his vacant eyes, he blew the save and the Marlins tied the game." After the book was published, Mesa was quoted as saying, "Even my little boy told me to get him. If I face him 10 more times, I'll hit him 10 times. I want to kill him." In 18 career at-bats off Mesa, Vizquel has six hits.

STL FANATIC
I won't justify Mesa saying he wants to kill a guy, but that was a low blow by Omar. You just don't do that, especially to a former teammate. brinkeguthrie
Watching it now, SF up 7-0 late so I doubt we'll see Mesa. But if he plunks Omar again this weekend, hooooooooooo boy.
Jigga
This would really be a huge story if either of these players were still relevant. I don't really see either being in the game beyond the end of next season. But you've gotta believe that if Mesa plunks Vizquel again, he's going to get a long suspension, and deservedly so.
