i'm a little new to image posting.  for my avatars lately, i've been playing around with photoshop images that look nice at a larger size, but when reduced and viewed on the web, look too choppy.  i have been saving them as *.gif from psd at size at 72dpi.  would i see better results from Fireworks (which i have, but don't use too much) or are there other settings in psd that will offer a better screen appearance?  i don't see any anti-alias options when saving as a *.gif.

how do you all get a nice smooth inages that you post?

thanks!
