I rather be innovative than generic. The majority of the teams in the old days looked exactly alike (ex: the Jim Kelly Bills and the Phil Sims Giants).

Ah, but we're not talking about the majority of teams, are we? We're talking about the Bengals.

The Bengals used to have a look that was solid and traditional while simultaneously being innovative and utterly unique.

But if you really want to talk broad strokes, I would make the case that teams look more generic now, as they all adopt the same type of busy over-designed uniforms using one of four templates.
