Design challange 2k3!

I just got done reading yhollander's post on SEMSU's descision to stop using the name "Indians" for its athletic programs. As always this subject always gets a lot of heated debate, which got me to thinking...what if there was a "worst case scenario" and all major league sports franchises were required to change their identities. This isn't meant to be a "pro-PC" thread, just an experiment in what could be.

Here's the breakdown:

All individuals are welcome comment and participate. Entries are to be submitted into this thread which will be judged by myself based upon the creativity and execution of the designs as well as the positive response from fellow board members.

Participants can submit as many entries as they see fit, although I encourage everyone to try and address as many of potential identities as possible. A complete entry should consist of at least one primary logo and a home and away uniform (this includes helmets, socks, etc), additional designs, such as secondary or alternate logos and word types are strongly encouraged and identity packages which include these will be rewarded accordingly.

The following teams are eligible for re-design:

Atlanta, MLB

Chicago, NHL

Cleveland, MLB

Kansas City, NFL

Washington, NFL

Edmonton Eskimos, CFL

The Challange will be closed to further entries by the evening of December 23rd.

On your mark...get set...design!

I have always wondered if the Inuit people found the Edmonton Eskimos insulting... hmmmm... but i like this idea it really does have a good "what if" factor behind... unfortunatly this reminds me of a MAD tv sketch where a Native Casino buys the Redskins, Chiefs, Indians and Brave... they were renamed the Rednecks, KC Landrobbers, Cleveland Klan, and i cant remember what Atlanta was.... needless to say funny sketch... but i think i will try to wrap my head around this...

Interesting you should mention... not to hijack the thread or anything, but I was thinking about how Eskimo is directly translated as "raw-meat eater"... they use a Polar Bear as their mascot these days, which actually is a raw meat eater... so perhaps they could get away with it legally. As for as I know, they've never had an Inuit person as a mascot, just the boring interlocking EE. (Why don't they use the Polar Bearized EE logo more often? Much more interesting, they don't have to use it on the helmets, but on the field and on promotional material would be cool.)

Atlanta was some big long name that ended in "Braves".  They said something like "We can call ourselves Braves."

The thought hadn't occured to me to include the Edmonton Eskimos in the original list. They certianly fit the criteria I put forward...so consider them fair game.

As far as potential new names...I'd prefer to keep them serious...but I think a few well done farce designs could also be acceptable.

Not to undermine anyone elses creative efforts, but since conflict of interest would keep me from entering myself, I'd really like to see someone attempt a new MLB Cleveland identity package....the Cleveland Industrials.

I'll try and throw out some more "design seeds" as they occur to me.
