tmorss9
I havent heard anything about this, but has the NHL started to force arenas to have predominantly white ads? In many of the arenas I've seen lately, ads that were once blocks of colours (like Tim Horton's) are now coloured text on white backgrounds. Does anyone know anything about this, or it is mere coincidence.IMO, this makes the boards look much cleaner and the made the ad's blend into the surroundings, while still being effective. I think it looks a little cleaner, but that's just me.
BRice16
I know Hortons used to use both red with white text and vice-versa dating to the 90's, so I don't think its really a change. Watching NBC today doing highlights, it seems to be about 50-50 colored to white. Some teams may insist on having white backgrounds, but it's not a league-wide thing. Frankie
If you watch all the major events put on by the NHL really since about the late 1990s, you will see that they used white ad boards. I can think back to the previous all-star games as prime example of this. Clearly, there must be some people in head office who think that having white adboards really cleans up the clutter. I couldn't agree more with that group. It is something that I wanted to see in rinks around the NHL for the longest time , and since opening day of this season, I was pleasantly surprised that the league must have sent down a memo with a certain recommendation (because if there wasn't a memo, I can't see why the individual teams would all make the same demand from their advertisers). Perhaps because it isn't mandatory, many of the rinks haven't adopted it, but rinks that have always had coloured boards have obliged this year (Edmonton is one of those teams, IIRC). It is mostly white adboards in all Canadian rinks, except Ottawa and Toronto (which have 2 of those "power"boards, which change frequently during a game). The game looks a lot cleaner, and the advertisers' mark looks a lot bolder. tmorss9
exactly what I was thinking, Frankie. It was nice to see everything going white on the boards, as some places, like Detroit with the Casino Windsor ad and Columbus with the Donato's Pizza and Dominion homes ads being huge blocks of colour. (No offense to the fine people of Donato's- makers of the finest pizza I've ever had) "Hats for bats. Keep bats warm. Gracias"
