A new bolder and more intimidating Scorpions logo was unveiled Wednesday at a pep rally for the University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College Scorpions fall sports teams at the Student Union Veranda.

The new logo features a fiercer Scorpion in the orange and blue school colors. is featured on all Scorpions athletic uniforms for the six sports programs for the 2010-11 school year. It is also featured at center court at the Manuel Garza B. Gymnasium.

"Our new logo is refreshing and better for athletics than anything we've ever had," Director of Athletics Todd Lowery said. "It's great because it's the first branding mark for athletics. We're proud to display it as our new identity."

The unveiling of the logo ends a one-year production process. The design of the Scorpion is tricky since an actual Scorpion is only a few inches long.

Torch Creative of Dallas designed the new logo. The letters UTB and TSC are original and not part of a font collection.

Old logo (as far as I can tell), for reference:

As a side note, University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College is a long-ass name.
