  1. Another series of rugby for me... This time I'm focusing on resurrecting the old Rugby Canada Supe League. When this league was going back in the late 90's early 2000's, Canada was a respectable tier 2 nation and could field a decent team while losing respectfully against the likes of Ireland, England and Wales. They also picked up a win against Scotland at one point as well. When the league folded, that's when you saw the demise of our men's team on the world stage, slowly dropping in the rankings, having to qualify for the World Cup via repachage tournament to not even going to the next one. I'd love to see this league get going again as I think it would do wonders for the men's program and actually get us back to a respectable tier 2 nation again. So in my fantasy world, this is how I see the league running: - League name is the WestJet Rugby Canada Super League. It gets a corporate name sponsor and I chose WestJet as I hate Air Canada. I also went with an airline so that the airline can supsidise travel costs across the country (one of the big reasons the league folded was travel costs) - The league is modeled after the CPL and is one step below Major Leauge Rugby - There will be no Vancouver or Montreal as I envision they will have teams in the MLR, Toronto also doesn't get a team as they are already in the MLR, but their academy program will be in the league - Macron will supply every kit as they are currently Rugby Canada's kit provider League logo is WestJet colours and the shield is the Rugby Canada one. I've kept the Rugby Canada font and maple leaf but modified it to incorporate the WestJet logo. As much as I don't want corporate ties to it, I feel that this needs to happen to sustain this league. As for teams, there will be 12 teams based in Vancouver Island (Victoria), Fraser Valley (Langley), Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatchewan (Regina), Manitoba (Winnipeg). Toronto, Ottawa, Quebec (not sure where yet), New Brunswick (Fredricton), Newfoundland (St. John's) and Nova Scotia (Halifax). You will see that some teams will have gold stars above their logos and those will represent the championships that the club has won when the league ran from 1998-2008. Vancouver Island Crimson Tide Stadium: Royal Athletic Park (I know that it is currently been converted to a baseball diamond for the HarbourCats, but RAP was the original home for the Tide and I want them back in that stadium) Championships: 1998, 1999, 2002, 2004 For the tide, I went with their traditional cross pattee but put it onto a shield. I saw this on an advertisment poster for a match between Cardiff RFC and the Crimson Tide from back in the 70's. Thought it was a better look than what they currently are using. The sponsers are Wilson transport, a local bus company that took over for Grey Hound and Lockwood Farms from Cobble Hill (It's actually my friend's farm and they supply eggs and produce for many farmers markets around Duncan and Victoria area. Check them out if see them). Home and Away kits are just reverse of each other and basically kept the same design they had while the league was running. It's a clean and simple look. Also shameless plug, but feel free to follow my Instagram page where I'll post my concepts and some other things Front Row Designs
  2. Here are this season's City kits. Seattle's looks like the same as last season:
  3. And the series is complete!! I've ended the series with the Edward Milne Wolverines. A Canterbury of New Zealand kit with a diagonal line patter on the front and socks as well as a wolverine claw on the front and back.
  4. The penaltimate kit in my series, the Belmont Bulldogs. I went with a Nike kit based on the Canterbury Bulldogs of the NRL. It's better than what they currently use which is just a blue shirt with "Belmont" across the front. One more school then it's all done!!
  5. This year's City kits should be dropping on the 27th.
  6. Next up is the Reynolds Roadrunners. Kept a nice clean look for the Roadrunners along with the chevron design. Also added the roadrunner silhouette on the back below the collar. Canterbury of NZ would be the kit provider and again on a @sportstemplates rugby template. This is 10 of 12.... Almost at the end.
  7. Mexico: Mongolia: Oman: Philippines: Puerto Rico: Singapore: Slovenia: Spain: Ukraine: United Arab Emerites: South Africa:
  8. Luxembourg have updated their jerseys to align more with the new Nike template: (The old ones used to have a lot of flames on it) The New Zealand Ice Blacks/Ferns also slightly updated their jerseys. They've gone for a more simple look with just arm stripping now, got rid of the black shoulders on the white jersey, dropped the federation logo patch on the upper part of the jersey and added the New Zealand flag on the left arm. New Dutch jerseys: Australia: Bosnia & Herzegovina using the previous Nike template: Bulgaria: Croatia: Estonia: Iceland: Italy: Kyrgyzstan:
  9. My alma mater is proposing a logo change. Proposed is on the top, current is on the bottom. University of Otago branding
  10. Royal Bay is a pretty new school in Victoria and the Ravens use a purple and black colour scheme. Their current look is a pretty awesome Indigenous design but as this is just a concept at which I don't think it will ever be used, I feel okay ditching it. I went with a harlequin design for these guys.
  11. Next up is the Glenlyon Norfolk Gryphons. They already have a classy looking kit so if it ain't broke, don't fix it. The only modification I made was carrying the barber pole to the socks.
  12. The Miami Sharks have got the official logo and are letting fans pick their jersey.
  13. Yeah I can see how they compete with Mt. Doug. Fair point... As for Pkols, I was going for what Adidas did with the Highlanders Super Rugby jersey a few years ago with a subtle tartan design on the kit, one that you would only see up close. I saw that logo as well for Stelly's but I chose to go with their athletics logo instead... and the font is similar to what the Stingers (boys teams) use, hence the use of the Blue Jackets font. Next up is the Esquimalt Dockers. They've come a long way since I last played them (My memory of them was going into a ruck and then waking up with the play halfway down the field and me stumbling off the field. This was back in the early 2000's where concusion protocol didn't exist). They have decent program going now but the kit is a standard template design. I went with a Japanese inspired kit using the barber pole look. For a school established in 1915, I feel a classic design works well for them.
  14. Next up is the girls team out in Saanichton, the Stelly's Queen Bees. Honeycomb design on an Under Srmour template. Seems fitting.
  15. A look at all the Super Rugby Pacific's Aussie based teams:
  16. Calgary Hitmen will be honoring Bret "The Hitman" Hart with a Forever a Hitman honor as the team was named after him. They will wear special jerseys for the game.
  17. Onto the next two schools. First up is the Spectrum Thunder. The logo is what they currently use. Went with the fading colour transition and a Macron kit. The next up is the Mt. Doug Rams. They currently don't have a rugby program but did back when I played. Went with Adidas as the kit provider and the darker purple is the siloette of PKOLS (the SENĆOŦEN word for the Mout Douglas).
  18. The Pampas from Argentina have released their new Canterbury kit: Also it looks as though the Argentina teams in this Super Rugby Americas competition will be kitted out by Canterbury which goes in line with Los Pumas switching from Nike to Canterbury.
  19. Next up are the juggernauts of Victoria high school rugby, Oak Bay Barbarians and the St. Michael's Blue Jags. Oak Bay: Kept it simple and went with an older design of theirs but changing the colours around, making green the primary, also updated the oak leaf logo SMUS: Went back to a modified traditional look as it looks good... They had some guy by the name of Steven Nash play for them as well back in the early 90's but he went on to play basketball I guess...
  20. Some pretty interesting designs from the recent BCHL All-Star game:
  21. And it's official, Miami Sharks will join the MLR for the 2024 season: Miami Sharks Press Release
  22. BC League 1's Varsity FC has been rebranded to Nautsa'mawt FC for the upcoming season:
  23. It's been a while since I have posted any type of concept on here. Got back into it after life got in the way and the creative juices are back and flowing. Anyways, for this series, I've decided to recreate some high school rugby teams from Victoria, BC. Victoria area high schools are a hot bed for rugby and have had several national team players come through the city. The Annual Gareth Rees Boot Game is contested between St. Michael's University School and Oak Bay High school, two of the top rugby schools in the province. The plan for this little series is to do one kit for every high school that has a team competing at some level in the city, whether that be juniors, seniors and/or 7's and to do schools that have had a rugby team at some point. With all of this in mind, this leaves me with about 12 schools in total. So let's get started. First up is my old high school, the Claremont Spartans. Back when I played, we were not very good... at all. I played 3 years there and we won one game. I'm glad to see they've come back and have the annual Scrum Fest up on the hill there. (I was fortunate enough to take a school to that tournament when I was coaching). Currently they wear the template of the Canterbury design when they first came out with their performance kits. Not very nice. I went back to the school's traditional barber pole design that they had in the 70's and up until when I played. I based the design on the MLR's New England Freejacks kit as well. I also went with an Adidas kit as the school done by Adidas.
