  1. There will be a new competition happening in South America, Langford, BC and Glendale, Colorado. The South American championship has been rebranded "Super Rugby Americas" and will have club teams from Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Paraguay, Columbia,  and Chile. On top of that, American Raptors from Glendale, Colorado (formerly of the MLR) and the Pacific Pride based in Langford, BC (National Canadian development team) will also joining the competition. The logo has been released and is a direct copy of the "S" from the Super Rugby Pacific completion.

Here's the Pacific logo for comperison:

No word on if the competitions are associated with one another.

Okay, so hold up--does this not violate any kind of IP protocol or something? How were they able to pull this off? Or did they reach out to and clear this with the Winnipeg Jets first?

That said, that whole Atlanta Thrashers identity was one of the most underrated looks in the NHL—of course it all went in the crapper once they went to that whole "Believe in Blueland" bullcorn...

I believe all rights associated with the Thrashers stayed with the Spirit group or something? Maybe like the same situation to what the Whalers did and why we didn't have Whalers merchandise for so long until the NHL got the rights back. I don't think True North has any Thrashers rights.

  3. I don't know if this has been mentioned but the North Bay Battalion released an alternate sweater with a tank on it.

“I had a discussion with the league even before we started play in 1998 about a secondary design that included a tank sweater, we’re pleased to introduce them in this, our 25th, season. We hope fans like the look and want to see more.“ - Scott Abbott

Does their populous know they have a rugby federation?

Even so, do they want the rest of the world asking what their logo is?

Not sure but I know their women's team did beat Scotland to qualify for the Women's World Cup. They are up and coming though and I believe they have a team in the SLAR (The South American club rugby circuit, which will also include Pacific Pride from Canada and the Glendale Raptors from the US for this upcoming season). This league is also where the Jaguars went after they left Super Rugby.

  5. The first of the kit reveals for the upcoming season. The Seattle Seawolves have released their home and away kits. Away kit stays the same but the home kit has changed:

They have dropped the dark/navy blue in favour of black for the home kit. Not a fan of dropping the blue. I think the home kit would be okay if they changed the black to the dark blue.

I really like that red one but the blue looks very USAish.

I wonder if they're trying to save money by combining?

I think it has more to do with the Olympics as all the countries that are within the UK compete as Team Great Britain. It does make sense on that level... plus starting next year the 7's World Series is getting a dramatic overhaul to align more with the Olympics. They are going to drop the number of events to seven as well as the core teams from 16 to 12. Going to be an interesting season in 2023-24 and I don't think Canada will do well. We may qualify the men and women through the regional qualifying tournaments for the Olympics but I have my doubts we'll qualify through the World Series.
