  1. I've had several other members contributing & helping me out. Once this thread took off I couldn't keep up with it so I began to ask for help. Feel free to add any vintage logos you might have done or tackle any of the many requests on here.
  2. ^^^^^Appreciate you contributing aeargle! Good Job^^^^^ Decided to tweak the Rockets logo just a bit...Not really sure if the flame works but...
  3. You know, I have thought about doing it to my community college logos since those are my designs but unfortunately simply putting a gray text over it or blurring out a section isn't gonna be enough to stop anyone from taking/using it or trying to pass it off as their own if they really want to. I can only hope that no one takes my designs & starts using them for their schools or other reasons without asking/paying for them. While looking through the net for logos to update/redesign I've come across so many schools that use other schools designs from high school up to community college, they've just altered them in some way to call it their own, some just look bad. Good example is the tiger used by Reedley which has the Auburn tiger body with what appears to be a clip art head. They just find it easier I guess to do it that way. On an up note though without jinxing anything lol. I made contact with the athletic director for Delgado College who actually got back to me & really liked my design & seems to be interested in it! We'll just have to wait & see how that goes (keeping my fingers crossed)! Wish me luck. Still waiting to hear from Whatcom also.
  4. ^^^^Thanks suplauren! Yeah, I've really been considering tossing them into a new thread, just not sure how many I'll actually be doing therefore don't know if it's even worth starting a whole new thread for em.
  5. ^^ Don't mind at all David, nice work you got going on there by the way! Thanks for the kind words & for adding a link on your page to mine, It seems to have lost a bit of steam here lately. Not too many people are willing to go through so many pages that they tend to just avoid it all together & with so many concepts coming out you almost have to crank out a design on a daily basis to stay on the first page. Thanks again for pointing people in my direction. Good luck with your thread, good stuff!
  6. Thanks Dunn, Yeah the yellow tongue is a bit odd I guess, just figured it got a little lost being gray & I didn't want to make it red so went with yellow. As I mentioned yesterday here is the wolf head I had from a while back. The black version has a slightly different font. Personally I like the full bodied logo but since I had the wolf head I said why not. Wondering if I should've just started a new thread titled "Redesigning Community College Logos"
  7. So I decided to venture out into the community college world of logos once again. This time it is for Virgina Highlands. I have a front facing wolf head I did a while back that I will probably incorporate to give it the same feel of their original you see here & post it sometime tomorrow, but for now all I have is the full bodied wolf. I considered adding some shading/highlights which I still may do later on but went with clean & simple. Added one with background to show white outline.
  8. Your welcome Danny! Really appreciate you helping out Spearhead! You've been very helpful to my thread David! I'll crank that out for you within the next few days.
  9. Don't know what to think of this one. Just basically cleaned it up a bit.
  10. This one has me on the fence, not sure if I did it any justice. I decided to go with the logo below because between the two it just looked better.
  11. this is really good. Have you contacted Reedley? The Tiger mascot is almost impossible to breathe new life into. It is so common and has been done so many different ways. This seems new, which is very difficult to do. Sorry, don't know how I overlooked your question Dunn. The answer is no. Never made an attempt to contact them or any of the schools for that matter. Truth is, I really don't know where to begin or who to talk to when it comes to showing schools artwork. Guess that's why I really haven't made an effort.
  12. Was looking around at other community college logos and came across this one of many using pro or college logos altered in some way and made their own. I had a tiger logo I did a while back for a paid request that was never bought or used so I figured why not use it for this one. I didn't spend too much time on the word mark for this one as you can see but I couldn't even find an official word mark for the Reedley Community College Tigers. So I guess any word mark is better than none right. I still may go back and work on the word mark later on though.
  13. Thanks Guys! Had a little free time so decided to try & knock a few out, think I'm done for a while though..unless one jumps out at me I really wanna do or can't resist, lol. Don't hold back on my account mdlesatz. Appreciate all the kind words everyone!!
  14. Dunn, your absolutely right about it being a grey area when it comes to updating/redesigning logos and the more I look at it the more I think it can even be called a modernization. So while I initially set out to establish an association between the two, at the end if the day...it is a redesign, lol. Thanks again for your thoughts on this! Just had an idea for a question of the day. Q: what separates a redesign from a modernization? Ren
  15. Thank you all for the kind words! That's actually a very good question & interesting point you brought up there Dunn. I've had a blast updating & restoring these vintage logos...which for the most part, the majority of them are great as is & only require some slight mods to restore them. Then there's others that require bit more of creativity due to the fact the original is not in very good shape. Finally there's the ones like this Delgado logo that no matter what you do to try & restore it, it's just not gonna look right because the original was drawn so poorly. Believe me, I wanted to update it but there was just no way of salvaging it...therefore a redesign was necessary in this case. I did however try & stay true to the original by using elements within it. First, I kept the basic shape of the dolphin which I felt was an important starting point in keeping it true to original but added fins which were really needed & can't understand why they were completely omitted in the original. Then, I thought the eye needed to look similar to maintain a bit of that vintageness. Next I went with a baseball cap over that sombrero looking cap it's wearing. Finally, I kept the bat & ball which help tie & associate it with the original. So while this is a redesign, my intentions were for people to look at it & make the connection with the original. Especially the ones who recognize & know what the original looks like. Thanks again! Ren
  16. Don't give up trying! You'll find your groove with illustrator. I find it easy using a light table to trace out the original then start tweaking it once line work has been traced out. The majority of my update is done on paper not in illustrator, that might be something you could try & see how it works for you. If there's anything else I can help you with please don't hesitate to ask. Good luck!
