  1. It was a bad idea from the start. Leave the steel mill innuendo to the pro team that you share a stadium with. Since pitt is an institution of higher learning why not have student-athletes commemorate more scholarly pursuits?
  2. I also think that without fail teams that have attempted to clean up or improve upon historically mismatched/sub par sets end up going back to the previous mismatch uniforms out of nostalgia.
  3. Oh do I sure miss the days when I could instantly identify the two osu's that use black and orange...
  4. I guess it may be an unpopular opinion to find football uniform elements/decorations that are better suited for plush toys to be ugly and childish.
  5. I know that they are throwbacks but miami really needs to settle on either the white pants stripe or the helmet stripe. I say put the pants stripe on the helmet.
  6. I found the 4 bullet point: If there is any question as to whether the number and the jersey are designed in good taste, the jersey may not be worn.
  7. I am having a hard time conceptualizing what a spring season would look like with regard to timing and amount of games. I guess you could do it like baseball and play after the school year ends but then you are probably encroaching on the '21 fall season unless you modify that. Would a 6-8 game mini season satisfy the rabid fan bases? Granted offseason programs have become overblown but I would think players would need around 8-10 weeks of downtime before going back into camp for the next season. Overall this whole thing is a colossal mess and the prudent thing to do would be to cancel the season and start '21 with a totally clean slate.
  8. Setting the over/under at 48 hours that this thread will be in remembrance of the cfb season that never was.
  9. Does anyone know why the 1 in the catalog version of the miami font was so disproportionally thick compared to the other numbers?
  10. Pulled from the uni watch ticker that ucla is talking to other suppliers https://247sports.com/college/ucla/Article/UCLA-Bruins-Basketball-Football-UCLA-Working-on-Deal-Sources-149732663/ Outside of the other 2 players who is really a viable supplier? I can't think of a worse economic time for the bruins to secure another supplier. Neither nike or adidas are going to break the piggy bank given the state of the consumer economy and sports retail. Combine that with a cfb season that's looking rather tenuous (especially in the p12), ucla has no leverage so they will be lucky to get the equivalent of a vetereran's minumum/show me deal for the next 1-2 seasons.
  11. I think this was rationalized/sold as a raiders to vegas kind of deal, the amount of b10 alumni in the tri-state was a large enough number that they would go to rutgers to catch their school play within a short drive. The other benefit was giving psu an additional home game as scheduling permitted.
  12. I am guessing with the coaching turnover and the lack of wins that the original nike tweaks are associated doomed what was an otherwise subtle attempt at creating some uniqueness in the vols uniform. Compared to the fsu mess that nike tried to force I thought the checkerboard design was not too extreme to be accepted. If I was to rank their pants I would go stripeless, single stripe, then the double stripe comes in with a very meh 3rd place.
  13. What does that make idaho then???
  14. The apparel licensing deals are typically exclusive for the athletic department and related marks only. Any other merch and logos/marks are fair game to be licensed which is why you can buy champion und gear or an under armour usc shirt from the campus bookstore or sports retailer. Schools have also got into the private label game to capture more revenue for themselves. The funny thing about notre dame is from what I remember a big part of their compensation with ua was stock compensation. I have no idea what came of that and if they were able to sell it off before ua tanked but what a cautionary tale about partnering with an upstart that was leveraging their own equity in an attempt to buy market share (as others have stated). Without good product and organic growth these scenarios rarely turn out positive. I think we will see a chapter 11 filing before the end of the year or right after the dismal holiday season.
  15. I've seen service agreements start without contracts being signed because the review and final revisions can take up to a year but this is just bad lawyering from both sides to be 4 years into a deal and not have a signed contract. The more this plays out in the press the more desperate ua looks in this deal and if you're a big program that is looking for an apparel supplier why on earth would you even consider ua at this point?
  16. Both schools and ua are in a bad financial place and covid wreaking havoc on the upcoming sports seasons really is the perfect storm for a lot of these overly-ambitious deals to collapse. I also think that with ucla/cal there's a large pacific rim footprint where ua may have thought they could convert those deals into international sales but again the global economy is a mess.
  17. It does not get much better than having a half duck/beaver creature as your trophy.
  18. How many of the new uniform elements since this redesign have been rolled back? gold mask abandoned before reveal for garnet garnet masks return to more traditional color gold numbers on white jersey switched back to garnet crossed helmet spears go back to separated yellow shade of gold reverts back to more traditional vegas gold gold numbers on garnet jersey swtich back to white Going off memory I think the only elements that have now stuck are the slightly modified spears, number font and sleeve/neck patterns. Overall I think think this is a great example of nike overreaching on a pretty classic uniform and attempting to change elements that required zero touch. Personally I think the font change was the only improvement. Overall this effort should be graded out as a sold D which I believe would still put the design team on track to earn a degree at fsu.
  19. There's a teamwear and limited shoe market for the non-rev sports which is much smaller than retail. With basketball and football you can also sell sell fan merch and footwear with the jordan brand. While the effort of slapping a jumpman logo on a nike uniform is little effort and cost, nike sees more value in keeping those sports all under the nike umbrella. You might be able to make a case for baseball/softball to sell cleats and accessories but not much else.
  20. I'm guessin that nike did a cost/benefit analysis that there was no revenue upside to having the jumpman logo on the non-revenue team uniforms because there isn't a big enough retail market for those products that those teams use.
  21. This was by far the lowest point in oregon football uniform history.
  22. broadcast rights were skyrocketing 10 years ago but that bubble burst much like all other inflated assets over the last 20 years...espn is losing their asses on the nba and there are more examples of regional sure bets (lakers, dodgers etc.) that have been financial disasters than I have time for. For some reason the powers that be neglected to factor in that endless price increases for service combined with lack of compelling content at said price will drive consumers to opt out of paying for cable, sports packages or both.
  23. I've heard from my sources xfl brass is targeting this guy for their core demo. .
