The Nats used to be so close to threading that needle between "Washington the metonym" and "D.C. the place where people live." Too bad with this, especially, they went hard to the former. Even more than the other pro teams that play in D.C. proper, feels like the Nats entire business model is "let's be the 2nd team for congressional staffers and think-tank employees who moved here from away." In fairness, seems like it worked better for them building a fanbase than a lot of other MLB teams in transplant cities.

As much as I love the various interlocking DC logos, I am glad the Nats brass stuck with "Washington" on their uniforms as their geographic identifier.

  2. The Galaxy are currently in a rough patch compared to their past successes. They need to fix the on-field product before anything else should happen.

A brand refresh will be tough for the Galaxy to ditch their Nike-created name and Beckham era crest since there is much history behind it. Also, they missed an opportunity to claim LA City or Angel City as their new name as well.

  3. With 8 matches complete and 6 to go, seems 25 points is the threshold to qualify for the World Cup.

    1. Canada, 4W, 4D, 0L | +8 GD | 16 Pts.
    2. USA, 4W, 3D, 1L | +7  GD | 15 Pts.
    3. Mexico, 4W, 2D, 2L | +4 GD | 14 Pts.
    4. Panama, 4W, 2D, 2L | +2 GD | 14 Pts.
    5. Costa Rica, 2W, 3D, 3D | -1 GD | 9 Pts.
    6. Jamaica, 1W, 4D, 3L | -4 GD | 7 Pts.
    7. El Salvador, 1W, 3D, 4L | -6 GD | 6 Pts.
    8. Honduras, 0W, 3D, 5L | -10 GD | 3 Pts.

I assume we'll get more clarity on which countries qualify by the 11th match.

    1. Nice move for both sides.  The surging Ramblers program takes another step up, and the A-10 gets more geographic stability on its western front (which means Saint Louis might not be so desperate to get out).

    2. I had a feeling that was coming...La Salle's been dropping non-revenue programs left and right lately (which perhaps could be restored with a move to D2 or D3).  An Explorers' relegation would also be good news for Drexel, as it would be their opening to not only be the A-10's next target, but also to finally join the "Philly Big 5."

    3. And now speculation runs wild over which A-10 team the Big East would try to pursue...though I often joke about trading DePaul for Loyola, I have a feeling they'll want to expand their geographic footprint, so I'm guessing they'll pursue somebody like VCU or George Mason.

I honestly could see GMU in the Big East in the future. Their campus has grown exponentially in the last 10 years. The Men's and Women's teams participate in 10 sports apiece. Plus, they're the largest public university in Virginia.

    My NHL expansion proposal

    EASTERN CONFERENCE

Atlantic Division: Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, Detroit Red Wings, Hampton Roads Rhinos, Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators, Quebec Nordiques, Tampa Bay Lightning, Toronto Maple Leafs

Metropolitan Division: Baltimore Skipjacks, Carolina Hurricanes, Columbus Blue Jackets, Milwaukee Ospreys, New Jersey Devils, New York Islanders, New York Rangers

    WESTERN CONFERENCE

Central Division: Arizona Coyotes, Chicago Blackhawks, Colorado Avalanche, Dallas Stars, Indianapolis Racers, Kansas City Scouts, Minnesota Wild, Nashville Predators, St. Louis Blues, Winnipeg Jets

Pacific Division: Anaheim Ducks, Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers, Golden State Seals, Los Angeles Kings, Portland Lumberjacks, San Jose Sharks, Seattle Kraken, Vancouver Canucks, Vegas Golden Knights

The number of teams in each division is off. I count 9 in the Atlantic, 7 in the Metro, and 10 apiece in the Central and Pacific.

    Speaking of wordmarks...

Coyotes' Guide to Style Resurrects White Kachina

Another result of the rebranding is a new wordmark, with two custom display typefaces, "Desert Sans" and "Desert Sans Condensed." "Desert Sans" was created to match the Coyotes' heritage look and feel. The typeface will be used to create large and confident messaging systems. "Desert Sans Condensed" works well in large sizes because of its readability. The font will be used mostly as a graphic element, because of its beautiful shapes and negative spaces. Both versions of the new wordmark can include either the full-body Kachina primary logo or the Kachina mask secondary logo.

The Yotes need to update the shoulder patches wordmark on the Kachina jerseys for consistency.

  7. Adding more context regarding what the Appy League is changing into (Source).

    Quote

The new Appy League will be a part of the Prospect Development Pipeline — a collaborative effort between MLB and USA Baseball that targets high-level amateur players and grooms them for potential national team participation and professional opportunities.

USA Baseball will help select the 320 players assigned to the 10 teams in 2021. Teams will be coached by a combination of USA Baseball staff, college coaches and pro-development personnel and will be scouted heavily by all 30 MLB teams.
