When they first announced the Championship Series was going to be a winter tournament, I assumed it was going to be held some place warm like Florida or California. It's going to be at an indoor sports facility in nearby Springfield, Virginia called The St. James which I never heard of before today.

The St. James is mostly known as a large indoor waterpark. The facilities are nice from what I remember. There is also one in Reston.

It’s not that complicated. It’s borne from the city’s flag.

I'm aware where the yellow comes from. I even stated that in my initial comment on page 1.

Maybe it's the lighting, but shouldn't the pink red be darker? Also, yellow, though not an official club color, was added to the jersey trim because of the city flag?

Assuming you meant to include yellow in your post, then yes it actually is an official club color, along with steel gray--do not ask me why:

The inclusion of yellow is messing with me on this kit. I get the steel plate motif, and that's cool. I had somewhat high hopes for this, but now that I see it, this inaugural kit is gonna get a "pass" from me dawg. (Doesn't mean I can't swag out in some of their other apparel, though!)

But why though? 😋 All kidding aside. My guess is that the club needed to enhance their color palette by adding "neutral colors" and differentiating from the other red/blue clubs in the league.  I'm not a fan of the yellow trim either.

Ain't it ironic that a team partly owned by and for a decade played in the home stadium of the New York Yankees gets a new stadium next to the Mets ballpark though 😎

No. All the other proposed sites were abandoned or didn't make much sense.

  5. I'm concerned about the goalscoring abilities. Pulisic (52 appearances [A]/21 goals [G]), Morris (49A/11G), McKennie (37A/9G), Ferreira (15A/7G), and Aaronson (24A/6G), doesn't seem intimidating. The USMNT might not have enough firepower for the World Cup.

It's incredible seeing who was on their roster in 2019 and just looking at it now. It makes me glad they managed to actually go on that run a few years ago.

I'm happy they made that run too! It made it up for all those playoff heartbreaks beforehand. Who knows when the Nats will make it back to the World Series.

  7. The player exodus continues for the Nats. I'm not sure what, if any, high-level talent would come to DC in the offseason, especially since it doesn't help that the team is for sale.

  8. MLS represented by Austin FC, Orlando City SC, Vancouver Whitecaps FC, Los Angeles FC, and Philadelphia Union in the 2023 Concacaf Champions League. Not sure if an MLS club will win the tournament this time around, but we shall see.

    2023 CONCACAF Champions League schedule

    • Round of 16: March 7-9 (first legs); March 14-16 (second legs)
    • Quarterfinals: April 4-6 (first legs); April 11-13 (second legs)
    • Semifinals: April 25-27 (first legs); May 2-4 (second legs)
    • Final: May 31 (first leg) and June 4 (second leg)

  9. San Diego, Las Vegas expansion in "active discussions": MLS Commissioner Don Garber

I would prefer San Diego over a Las Vegas club. However, I wouldn't be surprised if both cities join the League. Also, it wouldn't surprise me at all when MLS  expands beyond 30 clubs. Seems to be the way things are going anyway.

MLS Open To Playoff Revamp: Garber

I know the possible playoff changes were mentioned several posts ago, but it's good to hear that the Commish address it.

  10. American Football Conference National Football Conference
West South Central East West South Central East
Arizona Houston Cincinnati Buffalo Dallas Atlanta Chicago Baltimore
Denver Miami Cleveland New England LA Rams Carolina Green Bay NY Giants
LA Chargers New Orleans Detroit NY Jets San Francisco Jacksonville Minnesota Philadelphia
Las Vegas Tampa Bay Indianapolis Pittsburgh Seattle Tennessee Kansas City Washington

Realigned the divisions to a more geographic approach. Here is my thought process for some of the radical changes.

    • Fun fact, Dallas started in the Western Conference during their first season in 1960. They've been in the East since 1961! Figured keeping them against the 49ers would be great nostalgia, and certainly not an easy division to win.
    • Regarding the AFC East, needed to keep the Patriots/Jets rivalry alive along with the Bills. Introducing the Steelers to this division would make it a gauntlet for any team to come out on top each season.
    • As for the NFC East, I like the "I-95" corridor approach as the teams are easily accessible by the interstate.
    • For the AFC/NFC South divisions, the alignment could have gone in many different directions, but I settled on teams that were in close proximity to each other. It would be cool to see all the division rivalries develop over time.
    • The biggest surprises would be moving Kansas City to the NFC and Detroit to the AFC, as a change of scenery may help the Lions thrive and the Chiefs given more challenging competition in their division (except for maybe the Bears).

The Twins have been wearing RWB since 1901 and three World Series. Go pick on the Rangers (1961, 0 WS) or the Nationals (1969, 1 WS)  or the Angels (1961, 1 WS) to change their colors.

I want all three to change their colors.

All four teams should change their colors. The less RWB teams in MLB the better.

It's an even numbered year which means, yes, "MLS considering significant overhaul of playoff format".

Key points: MLS wants way more postseason games to sell to Apple, considering a World Cup or UCL-style playoffs with four groups of four and then a knockout bracket. Fun idea and I feel like Grant Wahl or somebody else suggested that years ago at this point. Another option is keeping the current system but going back to two legs, which like...weren't they just doing that but then complained about how teams could lose the game they advanced in? That would be my preference, both for sporting reasons and because every playoff team ought to have a home game, but it's so MLS that they just continually change their mind on how to do this. Also this is going to amount to a long, long season with a whole lot of games.

The proposed WC or UCL style format would further devalue the regular season. I can't see players interested playing several more playoff matches on top of the regular season and any USOC/CC or Concacaf Champions League matches. Plus, MLS and Liga MX are taking one month off next season for the League Cup, which is already a WC-style competition.

Not a fan of Washington’s. It just “what if the 97-00 set had a screaming Eagle black jersey”

Why not do the OG “capitals” jersey but in black, blue, and gold?

Love the Wild and Sharks RRs

Agreed. Also the ad patch placement is horrible!🤮

  14. The Colorado Avalanche are the defending champs.  The official puck drop starts today with San Jose vs. Nashville in Prague, Czechia.

There were many noticeable moves this past offseason covered in the offseason thread.

Ovechkin is 22 goals away from catching Gordie Howe for 2nd all-time in regular season goals. (Of course, I'd mention the Caps).

Who's bringing home the Cup this season?

Sammy Sosa tests positive in the 2003 anonymous PED screening.

Sammy Sosa never tests positive before or after that '03 test.

Sammy Sosa is blackballed form MLB and never sniffs Cooperstown.

Sammy Sosa isn't even in the Cubs' Hall of Fame!  Clearly, there's more to it than just stats with Sosa.

Maybe he wasn't a good teammate?

Given that the schedules are unbalanced anyway, I don't think this is a problem -- would be better to reduce travel and let Nashville foment those future rivalries. Like the glory days of the 16 NL / 14 AL baseball. But maybe the math doesn't pencil out.

You're right, it wouldn't have been a problem. The 2020 season ended with 14 Clubs in the East and 12 Clubs in the West.
