This is an interesting proposal. One significant issue is why the need to place all the Canadian teams in their own Divisions within the respective Conferences? The odds would significantly increase against any Canadian teams winning the Cup if maintaining a 16-team playoff format compromising of 4 Canadian teams and 12 US teams in the playoffs each season.
Another major issue with the 2-team per Division playoff format is that fans would wonder why a third place team in an opposite Division wouldn’t qualify even if they had more points than the second place team in another Division. For example, in the Western Conference, let us say that the teams thein Northwest Division finished with Calgary in first (100 points), Vancouver in second (95 points), Edmonton in third (91 points), and Winnipeg in fourth (80 points). Conversely, the teams in the Southwest Division finished with Minnesota in first (99 points), Dallas in second (89 points), Colorado in third (84 points), and Las Vegas in fourth (65 points). Under this scenario, why should Dallas make the playoffs while Edmonton – who had a better season – miss out?
As far as REEL A LINE MINT, there is an opportunity missed to keep the budding Jets – Wild – Blackhawks rivalry intact in order to bring back Columbus to the Western Conference. Is there a reason for moving Columbus back to the West?
In addition, the Atlantic and the Metro Divisions are a little confusing especially with breaking-up the NYR-NYI-NJD rivalry, unless this is intentional.
Therefore, the idea of balancing out the two Conferences with 4 Divisions of 4 teams each is certainly a challenge and there is much promise here, but a few things need to be tweaked in order to achieve that balance.

I find it strange that the closest team to Charlotte is in Hershey, which is 489 miles away!

How would the playoffs work in your realignment?

So you decided to expand the NHL to 33 teams and subdivide all the Conferences?
Your realignment idea would only further compound the problems currently plaguing the League already.
-
I wanted to keep at least one team in the south and they're the only one with something that resembles a fanbase.
Have you seen a game in Dallas? They were near the bottom of the league in attendance last year and this start sure isn't going to help that this season. Then you have a team like Tampa Bay that regularly sells out the TBTF, including all games this season.
To be perfectly honest, it's been awhile since I actively followed the NHL. Dallas is also more convenient geographically since Tampa Bay would throw off the entire alignment.
Why are the cities of Hartford, Milwaukee (Brew City), Portland, and Seattle granted Alternate Universe NHL franchises while Washington, D.C. was ommitted from your league?

My mind hurts from reading max's posts and that's saying something!

I knew my moves would start a flame war. It would be great to see hockey return to a pre-30 team league even if it rumples a few fan bases' feathers.

My 2014 NHL Realignment
I see the brilliance in this post!

Always a good idea to design things after a division rival's primary logo, after they kicked your butt in the playoffs.
They were using that design on their website as soon as they won the division. And I mean, it's a pretty generic banner shape.
But nice try?
There are only a few ways you can design a traditional banner that hangs from the arena rafters. It's ironic that the banner is similar to the Los Angeles Kings primary logo, however, the Kings logo is not designed well either.

I haven't been paying attention too much to this thread, however, has there been any mention of the TV deal that the ACC currently has in place (if one does exist)?

Jamison's partners could be a sock puppet and a crack addicted hooker and Bettman would still try to pass it through.
Now that's insulting to the sock puppet and hooker!

At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if the next logical (illogical?) step in "keeping the Coyotes" in the desert is for Phoenix to incorporate Glendale within its city limits.
-
Wow I dont think the Isrealites wandered the desert this long waiting for Moses to find the promissed land after smashing the ten comandments, and spliting the red sea.
The Israelites wandered through the desert for 40 years before reaching the Promised Land; whereas the Phoenix Coyotes bankruptcy and ownership saga is not even 5 years old.

In this scenario, would Chivas USA relocate elsewhere, say San Diego, or will the club stay at the HDC?

Can somebody provide me a map of the Florida State League and California League? It would benefit my realignment plans if I get some geographic bearings on the teams' current locations.
I will do you one better. This link should be helpful.

In the latest edition of "Absolutely nothing's going right in the Islanders' quest to get a new arena", NYC announced their plans for developing Willets Point. It includes a huge mall and parking garages. There's nothing about an arena included. Which probably means Wang didn't get involved in the process.
Oh. Joy.
A huge mall and parking garages? Hmm, that sounds familiar!
All that is missing is for the Town of Hempstead to fork over $25 million a year and cut general civil services in to keep this team afloat.

I'm waiting for the headline to read: "NHL, Goldwater Institute, and Mayor agree to disband Glendale in order to save the Coyotes."

Didn't the Devils come close to moving to Nashville after winning the Cup in 1995?
Nashville was considered; however, then Devils coach Lemaire wasn't sold on the idea.

It looks more like a 24 team League rather than a 25 one. Regardless, I think this League would be better suited for four divisions and not five. Here's how I would restructure the League:
Atlantic:
Connecticut
Delaware
New Hampshire
Maine
Rhode Island
Vermont
South:
Alabama
Arkansas
Kentucky
Mississippi
South Carolina
Virginia
Great Plains:
Iowa
Kansas
Nebraska
New Mexico
North Dakota
South Dakota
Pacific:
Alaska
Hawaii
Idaho
Montana
Nevada
Wyoming
Note: Italicized State are new additions to the Division.
Regular Season:
40 (2H, 2A) games versus Division
36 (1H, 1A) games versus rest of League
Playoffs:
Division Winners are seeded #1 - #4 with the #1 Seed clinching the best record.
Four wild card winners, regardless of Divisions, are seeded based on regular season record.
Note: If teams are tied, then the initial tiebreaker would be W-L record against each other, followed by record versus common opponents.
Playoffs are reseeded after Quarterfinals, i.e., highest seed remaining hosts lowest seed remaining.

Unless I'm missing something, I thought a pointless realignment thread was supposed to be pointless.

I agree Brooklyn is always an option, but only for the short-term. They'd need to have the arena deal in place before moving in to a facility with such a limited capacity, lest they be stuck there.
Tickets for the Islanders-Devils exhibition game went on sale today - here's the seating map on the ticket page:
Oh Jesus H. That's not a long-term solution for the Islanders, that's KeyArena lite. Who builds a basketball arena in 2012?
This award goes to former Nets majority owner, Bruce Ratner, who in 2004/05, thought it would be a fantastic idea to move the team to Brooklyn.

With all this talk about the NHL and Milwaukee, I nearly forgot that they have an NBA team.

The Portland Timbers (MLS) have had a darker colored crest since 2017. They added a deeper Ponderosa green with Ravens Gold accents to their 2017-2018 primary kit. The gold in the ax was removed from their crest for the 2019-2020 season primary kit.
