  1. After a few years hiatus, it was great to hear Michael Lombardi on with Simmons.
  2. I said it a couple of months back, but Juliette Littman is the key to any podcast under any Simmons brand. If I know she is on a podcast, it is easily worth the download.
  3. Taking the lowest bidder has been a point of discussion since July, even on this thread.
  4. Big XII 3rd tier rights are split up between at least four different media companies (ESPN, FOX, MediaCom, IMG) over the long term. Each of those need to be resolved.
  5. Market means much more when you get $$$ from cable households, with a network thus the B1G move was right. DFW Metroplex is full of Texas Exs and other Big XII grads besides TCU
  6. Last Saturday, McMurphy gave the "alleged 11" who were going to Dallas. Air Force BYU UCF Cincinnati UConn Colorado St. Houston Rice South Florida SMU Tulane CBS's Gary Parrish, who lives in Memphis, acknowledged that the Tigers didn't make the cut due to academics.
  7. Memphis is out ans has been for a week. Their administration is using the nondisclosure agreement with the Big XII as their reason not to admit it publicly. http://www.commercialappeal.com/sports/tigers/University-of-Memphis-not-among-Big-12-expansion-finalists-ESPN-reports-392168051.html?d=mobile
  8. The official South Florida "pitch video" to the Big XII
  9. I listened to The Ringer's NCAA football podcast and it was awful. While it had Mallory Rubin, who was on SI's NCAA podcast when Stewart Mandel was there, she and her co-host agreed on 95% of their topics. The result was Mallory saying, "I know!", or, "I agree". She is better than that. It was lite-Solid Verbal without all of Dan/Ty's constant, "That is true."
  10. Exactly. Boise only offers seven terminal (doctoral) degrees and it's 2,200 miles from Morgantown.
  11. So the reality is 20+ schools with zero chance asked their major donors to pay for their presentations and the Big XII believes typos in your presentation is alright if your TV market is big enough as seen with USF. http://www.underdogdynasty.com/2016/8/17/12516408/big-12-expansion-awkwardness-usf-edition
  12. The Power 5 already has autonomy so that they can pass rules on their own without the backing of other NCAA Division 1 member conferences. Both Mark Emmert and Oliver Luck realize that having a one-size fits all structure is challenging when athletic budgets range from $10 million at one school to the $120 million at others. Then we get into issues like not all these Group of 5 schools can afford to offer as many sports as those in say the B1G , ACC and Pac-12 offer (SEC and Big XII offer less than the other P5). Power 5 autonomy is just the progression of the 1973 decision to make three Divisions and the 1976 formation of the CFA. No need to give "social promotions" to poor performing, know that half of Sun Belt and C-USA schools are not covering the offer full cost of attendance.
  13. There are currently 65 "Power 5" schools and 128 FBS schools overall. Even if you break up the Power 5 into four groups of 20, are there really 15 additional schools who are financially able to compete with the current 65? After looking at the 20 who are getting the opportunity to state their case to the Big XII, are 15 of them really able to sustain competitive programs? Teams 76-80 or 81-120 are not increasing TV viewing or the gate for a current Power 5 and will further increase student fees to bolster their budgets even more. Or to bring it back, if you had 120 schools, which eight schools would you cut?
  14. They waited it out and got a better brand in Louisville.
  15. I haven't read much of Peter King after he got his daughter an internship with the Seahawks. Beernerdness/Coffeenerdness took a big toll on me, as well as his Marrriott Rewards bitching. He made me so glad that I never chose Marriott or Statwood ( now bought by Marriott) as my hotel rewards program. The Enjoyable/Aggravating Travel Note of the Week is a beating.
  16. That's why even with 25,000+ parking spaces, you that the Trolley to Qualcomm for the Chargers. Just park at the mall three(?) stops to the west.
  17. Talking to Miller is Simmons' psychiatrist sessions. I didn't listen for Bill, I listen for Miller. Miller talks a lot more as it goes on and ask Bill questions. Sadly, Bill talks about Bill. You missed Bill: *apologizing to Mike Tirico for his book comments. *rip FOX for going after ESPN in terms of ratings and not espn2. *still harp on his firing (Miller will update the ESPN book soon too due to turnover over the last year). *got mad that a release over ESPN 35th anniversary programming was too similar to the "30 for 30" series initial memo.
  18. James Andrew Miller is back on with Simmons to talk about his book on CAA (need to order it). Podcast was good inbetween the moments when Simmons talked about his time at ESPN...again. But I didn't know that PTI was set to move to L.A. in 2010, but Tony's wife didn't want to move.
  19. It's 18 applications and the four unnamed school came to light. The four are/were (per McMurphy): San Diego State Northern Illinois Air Force Arkansas State
  20. Cincinnati, Houston, BYU, South Florida, UCF, UConn, Memphis, Colorado State, Boise State, Tulane, Temple, East Carolina, SMU and New Mexico plus three yet to be named is more illustrative of the current members desiring to take the low bidders. It's more fun to try to guess the three unnamed schools: SDSU? Navy? Air Force? Southern Miss? Northern Illinois? Fresno St.?
  21. Big XII has narrowed it down...to 17 schools!! SMDH. http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/17281618/big-12-commissioner-bob-bowlsby-interview-17-schools-expansion
  22. Might want to read more about the Disciples of Christ (TCU's affiliation). The Disciples even moved last year's convention from Indiana over Gov. Mike Pence's (and others) religious freedom bill and they're BASED in Indianapolis. http://www.indystar.com/story/news/politics/2015/04/01/disciples-christ-cancels-indy-convention-religious-freedom-law/70783446/ I'll even give you a link from the very right leaning Newsmax. http://www.newsmax.com/t/newsmax/article/636073
  23. Today, on The Dan LeBatard Show, Bob Ryan reflected on Saunders and mentioned that he (Saunders) was a Diabetic and over 20 surgeries for joint pain due to his hockey playing days. He did have a fall on the ABC College Football set in NYC some years ago and fractured his skull/brain bleeding. There is also an Amazon pre-order memoir in which Saunders wrote about battling Depression. So suicide is definitely a possibility.
  24. The bankruptcy auction is next week. The $100M offer from Ziff Davis will likely be binding if it is greater than the bids.
