  1. It's the "ungrateful black folk" narrative which has picked up steam in the last two weeks. That said, Cam has had the biggest target on his back since day one in the NFL for a myriad of reasons, but the pettiness of $hit/spotlight he has to go through has got be taxing. Neither McNabb nor Vick had to endure: His owner told him, don't get tattoos or piercings. http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/6894818/carolina-panthers-jerry-richardson-cam-newton-no-tats-piercings Letters to the Editor complaining about having his first child out of wedlock. http://www.charlotteobserver.com/opinion/letters-to-the-editor/article52948820.html The pettiness following his car accident. http://www.charlottefive.com/9-odd-things-we-learned-from-the-cam-newton-car-crash/ At least as a professional, Jameis went to Tampa Bay, who has run two other black QBs drafted in the 1st prior to him out of town. Following her future over the next 6-12 months will be interesting. Will she change beats or even move?
  2. FWIW, Clay Travis made Politico yesterday with a long form story on him. As moderators prefer we refrain from politics ang religion, I won't post a link, but it can be found easily.
  3. Two items. 1- Katie Nolan reportedly is trying to get out of her FOX contract early. https://www.si.com/tech-media/2017/09/28/katie-nolan-leaving-fox-sports-contract-espn 2- Bill Simmons was actually enjoyable in the last nine months and it took "Desus and Mero" to do it. NSFW
  4. Yea, an ESPN(2) which nobody is a watching. OK, B. When your Penn State is off network TV will you just turn to radio and drink those Paterno endorsed brews, or will you watch cable? GTFO! Bob Iger's second follow on Twitter was Jemele. Again, she's now famous. She went from Orlando Sentinel columnist to ESPN to this.
  5. What prompted her tweets would likely get this thread locked, so since it's now a national story, her thoughts are pretty easy to find. To place it around sports, the weekend of the US Women's Open, "something else occurred" nationally. You live in ACC country, think "WaHooWa". She is employed by ESPN and is on the 6pm SportsCenter, that's always had relevance. Now, I agree with Yahoo's Pat Force as the Trump Administration (because the Press Secretary speaks for the President) has now made Jemele Hill, not infamous, but famous. https://mobile.twitter.com/YahooForde/status/908057704069033989
  6. Clay WAS with FS1. He left last year as then boss, Jamie Horowitz offered him a TV show but under the guise he didn't talk politics. Travis declined. Fox Sports licenses its name to iHeart Media to brand their sports radio stations as "Fox Sports Radio". Before going out on his own circa 2013 on NBC Sports Radio and FS1 on TV, he was a co-host on a popular radio show Nashville and left as he thought Cumulus was low balling him. He's a cross between starter kit of Paul Finebaum + Sean Hannity (his radio show) and Barstool Sports (his website).
  7. And speaking of Clay, earlier today on CNN...
  8. Tilman Fertitta already has a sports "side piece". The University of Houston's athletic department especially as he is now chairman of the Board of Regents. He wants them in a Power 5 and owning the Rockets may overextend him since young people don't eat at Rainforest Cafe/Landry's/Joe's Crab Shack. His comoany is privately owned, but restaurant revenues are so down.
  9. Basically these Silicon Valley venture capitalists are. http://courtsidevc.com/ One of the partners is quotes in this Forbes article from January. https://www.forbes.com/sites/darrenheitner/2017/01/10/why-2-1-million-was-invested-in-a-sports-news-subscription-site/#3e61df915e71
  10. The Whitlock/producer explanation will be that it wasn't a white guy, it was Kid, from Kid 'N Play. http://m.tmz.com/#!article/2017/09/06/jason-whitlock-colin-kaepernick-kid-n-play/
  11. Keep in mind that the four county Tampa Bay area (Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas and Hernando) are still seventh in the nation in home foreclosures. When the Rays were in the World Series, they were second. The irony of this thread and moving them to basically the Pacific time zone of the same situation but with drought issues, is humorous to me.
  12. The Raley Field thing has been discussed here quite a few times. It should come up in a search as I believe once I linked to the A's ballpark blog with the quotes from somebody the RiverCats regarding the construction.
  13. If Omaha was chosen, the team would have a 20+ day road trip in June due to the College World Series. That contract is through 2035.
  14. I don't subscribe to any Ringer podcast, I just wait 48 hours after dropping to determine. Bill just now throws s#it out there to see if it works and it proves to me, they're not as successful as he touts. Unlike his pal Adam Carolla or his rival Chris Hardwick (Nerdist), he is now just a podcast business. Nobody wants to see his a$$ om TV. The Ringer's content stinks, but they seemingly get hits, but mainly just for the podcasts. He spends a lot of money being Bill Simmons too. "Smart Guy Friday" is a farce as Bill is trying to be a smart guy himself and the impetus to interview said people. Hell, Bill tried to tell us he created, "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee" a year before Seinfeld. GTFO. On the staff side, it seems that Bill really loved and wanted to hang around Jalen, but now that they are split, Bill doesn't have people of color friends or employees. He has hired Shea Serrano, a Latino, an Asian male, an Asian woman(Nicole Bae), and a Black male intern (Jordan Coley) talks a lot about black culture, yet don't talk with black folk.
  15. http://www.adweek.com/tv-video/cbs-will-launch-a-streaming-sports-network-later-this-year/ And... http://variety.com/2017/digital/news/disney-netflix-end-acquires-bamtech-espn-ott-services-1202519917/
  16. Has anybody subscribed to The Athletic? I know they are expanding to new cities (Bay Area, Detroit) and added some national college football writers in the last few weeks with Stuart Mandel, Nicole Auerbach, Jason Vannini and Jason Kersey. But are those writers really editors/managers who can handle both tasks and more importantly, while some content is out there for free to tease, is anyone willing to pay $48/year in full or $8/month for regional specific content? It didn't work for ESPN when they went city specific around their O&O radio stations and hired then laid off newspaper reporters. http://www.niemanlab.org/2017/07/the-athletic-that-local-sports-startup-with-no-advertising-raises-5-4-million-and-scoops-up-sports-illustrateds-former-top-editor/ Tim Kawakami was on with Deitsch and it seems they are spending investment $$$ like crazy, but it may not be daily.
  17. Isn't also very difficult to get Metro Nashville to spend another $400-500M on a stadium when they not only are thinking about MLS with a Vanderbilt partner, but also as $100M was spent on First Tennessee Park which will very hard to expand.
  18. Goodbye Vice Sports. http://variety.com/2017/digital/news/vice-media-layoffs-global-video-1202502249/
  19. Mallory went to Newhouse and spent time at SI as the NCAA football editor there before Grantland and The Ringer. She really seems she would rather be in entertainment than sport as she was more interested in talking about "Lost" years ago in the SI college football podcast when Stuart Mandel was at SI.
  20. A CNBC analyst heard Simmons' podcast last week with James Andrew Miller and Bryan Curtis regarding ESPN and responded to his allegations of John Skipper and the Disney management. http://www.cnbc.com/2017/07/14/bill-simmons-wrong-about-how-espn-blew-it-in-digital-commentary.html
  21. Also the switch ended their advertising agreement with Sports Illustrated. http://deadspin.com/fox-sports-pivot-to-video-killed-its-advertising-deal-w-1796729777
  22. After the content change, foxsports.com had 60% less traffic. http://dealbreaker.com/2017/06/jesse-spector-sports-media/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
