  1. Bidding for Disney's sale of the 22 Fox RSNs began this week. In this first round, Comcast will not bid. But Ice Cube and LL Cool J are bidding with Alex and Ani's Carolyn Rafealian.
  2. From last week... https://www.ktnv.com/news/tweets-about-mlb-stadium-replacing-rio-drive-internet-wild
  3. The Ringer throwing everything at the wall tomorrow for the NBA start of the season. https://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Daily/Issues/2018/10/15/Media/Simmons.aspx
  4. ESPN didn't "mess " with anything. Mike Tirico decided to leave and go to NBC. Tirico and his agent basically knew it was the right time to leave and chose the events of magnitude over being ESPN's most versatile host and MNF play by play. He now has The Olympics, The Open Championship (when he only had the first two rounds of The Masters at ESPN), Notre Dame football, and will get Sunday Night football, and likely will host the Indy 500. In 2016, Bob Costas was 64 and already on the outs with the NFL/Football Night In America after his 2012 gun control commentary during halftime and NBC knew they needed a plan going forward after Costas contracted pink eye in Sochi. Costas also later said that he knew Rio was his last Olympics. Al Michaels was 73 and is going to retire sometime. Tirico was 49 at the time. Then ESPN got hit with a surprise five weeks later that Brad Nessler, who would have been tapped to replace Tirico on MNF, would go to CBS a year before Verne Lundquist retired from the SEC on CBS.
  5. Two health related issues. Ernie Johnson will not be working for TBS this MLB postseason due to blood clots. And Matt Millen will take time off the Big Ten Network to Amyloidosis
  6. I knew this was going to occur yesterday. Monday: Peter King writes he'll no longer appear on Barstool content due to The Daily Beast profile in September. Tuesday: Portnoy "wishes death on King".
  7. Costas has said he still wants call a weeknight game on MLB Network. Obviously, we know his favorite sport is baseball, but his son, Keith, is a producer for the channel.
  8. I don't think anyone uses the words "hit piece" more than Portnoy & Co. and his stoolies.
  9. Editor of cleveland.com writes staff email regarding recent defections to The Athletic. https://m.clevescene.com/scene-and-heard/archives/2018/09/24/clevelandcom-editor-chris-quinn-sends-angry-rambling-internal-email-after-the-athletic-poaches-cavs-beat-writer
  10. FWIW, there might be a purge of long time, high priced folks there within Operations. Tom Ward, Senior VP of brand, community, partnership development left to join the Alliance of American Football. Then again, Ward likes startups as before the Hurricanes, he was with the expansion Hornets and Predators.
  11. ¿Highly Questionable? is the best!!! Papi LeBatard is the star of it and can say nearly everything which those who hate ESPN would want to say. I love him. Many hate him because of his accent t that's very, very unfortunate. $hit, Papi got me a gig in 2013 as during a group interview, HQ was on at the lunch the six of us were at. One girl was from Miami and knew the show. I got the 18 month assignment and we traded Papísms all the time. There are now four shows basically owned by Erik Rydholm. PTI and Around The Horn are his. High Noon and HQ are too. Deuce & Mero is his too and of that was on ESPN, it would've been gold.
  12. They've got to ride with this through the Super Bowl at the earliest, Final Four/Opening Day seems more likely to pull the plug as they could get out before The Masters. Oh, and the Big Ten and Comcast come to an agreement a week before football season. https://www.cleveland.com/osu/2018/08/btn_reaches_agreement_with_com.html
  13. Beadle leaving "Get Up!", moving back to L.A. and will return to NBA Countdown. https://thebiglead.com/2018/08/24/michelle-beadle-get-up-maria-taylor-mina-kimes/ Her, "I don't watch the NFL or college on Saturdays", this week had to play a role.
  14. With Russillo's contract with ESPN done, he'll now podcast with Simmons. https://www.thewrap.com/ryen-russillo-joins-bill-simmons-the-ringer-podcast-network-to-launch-new-football-series/
  15. The Athletic is easily worth it when you use a discount code and pay the year in full. You often get 30- 40% off, so it averages to $2.99-3.49/month. There were some 40% discount links with the several NCAA page launches earlier this month and 30% off for some of the launches this week, like the Tampa Bay edition. You wouldn't be locked into that area's teams as you set your alerts, but the more teams you set, the bombarding of new stories will be sent.
  16. ESPN+ subscribers to also get access to Insider content as Insider folds into + on Tuesday. https://variety.com/2018/digital/news/espn-insider-switched-to-espn-plus-streaming-1202911642/
  17. Well John Zeigler took the national contract from ESPN to Sportschannel America in 1988 only to have Bettman repeat it in 2005 in going to then OLN (lka Versus, NBCSN).
  18. With certain NCAA and NFL games, I'll sync my TV with the local call of one of the teams via TuneIn.
  19. The Athletic Atlanta, Baltimore and Wisconsin began today and the number of areas covered is now 32. http://awfulannouncing.com/athletic/the-athletic-adds-19-college-football-writers-expands-into-atlanta-baltimore-and-wisconsin.html
  20. I guess the quota of Sub-Indian or Southeast Asian indentured servants, err workers dying during construction of stadiums, training venues, roadways and hotels hasn't been met yet.
  21. It was 4 in 6 years and within two contracts. Before FOX getting the NFC side, the previous contract was for the 1990-93 seasons.
  22. CBS aired Super Bowl 26 (January 1992) and the Albertville Games less than two weeks later. NBC aired both Super Bowls 27 (January 1993) and 28 (January 1994).
  23. Over the last few weeks, I've noticed many of the sites I visit have updated their Privacy Policy and/or Terms of Service to be GDPR compliant in accordance with the EU GDPR regulation even as I'm not contacting these sites from the EU. Then I realized that I never recall this board telling me that there was any Privacy Policy update. I looked at the current policy and really seemed very succinct compared to other message board policies, if not lacking. Any thoughts? I appreciate any feedback/comments.
  24. It's success is totally from podcasts. That's why they flood the market with so much stuff, they're bound to create something else a Simmons Stan will subscribe to. https://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Journal/Issues/2018/05/07/Media/Podcast.aspx
