Group G is going to be interesting because Lille are a shell of their former selves. That could have been PSG in that spot, which would have been a cakewalk for them. Then you have two teams that finish fourth domestically. But the Shaktar Donetsk and the Sheriff Tiraspol might be the most fascinating of all because it features a club in Shaktar who have been displaced and Tiraspol is in a region that would prefer to leave Moldova.

I have actually been to the Arizona State Fair during a trip to Phoenix about 10 years ago. I had no idea it was in October. So my family went to it. The facilities at the time did look like they were from a bygone era, including the VMC.  The VMC probably would not even be a suitable AHL venue these days. 

This was inevitable. I am just surprised that the NHL didn't do this before the NBA.

What if the player in question wasn't a visible minority? Imagine what people around the NBA would be saying if Luka Doncic didn't speak English well and required a translator?

Kawasaki was a fringe player at best. No one goes to the ballpark hoping to see Kawasaki.

Consider the other way around... how many NPB baseball fans expect their star foreign players to do interviews in Japanese? 

Ohtani speaks English reasonably enough, but when it is not your first language some translations kind of get confusing at first. 

Let me provide an example. 

The French word for "potato" is "pomme de terre". "pomme" is French for "apple" and "terre" is "earth". Imagine having not known about the word "potato" when learning English, the French speaker would probably instinctively  think, "earth apple" instead of "potato".
