Yeah, I was wondering why the New Jersey Generals never really considered making Rutgers Stadium their home venue. Then again, I've always wondered why Michie Stadium at Army West Point was never considered for the New York Guardians when they played. Yes, it's about 50 miles north of NYC, but it would've been/would be a great (temporary) venue for New York's UFL team, until NYCFC's new stadium opens up in 2027.

What's the market like there? Are people in NYC gonna make the 50-mile trip to watch a spring football team? It's not always about there being a stadium. It matters where that stadium IS. Rutgers' stadium is still in a higher density populated area so it may work. I don't know about West Point. I would almost try for Columbia as a temporary home (if NYCFC really is the end goal) before West Point.

It's sad when a game featuring two eliminated teams draws nearly double that of a game featuring the two best teams in one conference being played at the home of the best team in the league. Stallions fans continue to say, "we've been burned before and we don't know how long they'll be around" while the team exists. If they ever leave, they have no one to blame but themselves. Not the UFL or the team. It's all on the fans.

Is there a source or a set rule you can point to?

I would say the official site of the NHL that you posted would be a pretty sufficient source. Not too hard to connect the dots from that point.

The NHL is sure taking its sweet time creating a Utah NHL website and social media channels. We're only three months away from Utah playing its first pre-season game, and just weeks away from when teams hold parties for the draft. I have zero idea why they don't have any of this stuff up and running.

Because they still exist as the Arizona Coyotes for the duration of the 2023-24 NHL season, which has not completed yet.

The Florida Panthers are a gutless collection of cheapshot artists that get away with physicality that's over the top because the refs swallow the whistles.

Well, no wonder they missed calls. They're constantly giving each other the Heimlich Maneuver. I would assume stopping your co-workers from choking to death would be of higher priority than an accurate call. Seriously, show some humanity.

You do realize that everything you say carries absolutely no weight and you have not a shred of credibility, right?

Good, Then we're all on the same page.👍

Birmingham attendance looking awfully low today

Every Birmingham fan on TwiX keeps making the "we've been burned by spring football before" excuse for the low attendance, ignoring the fact that this is the Stallions THIRD year, all in Birmingham and are arguably the best team in the league. I keep making the analogy it's like breaking up with a woman so she doesn't dump you a year from now. They're here. Going to a game today doesn't make it a waste of money next year if the league were to shut down.

The best part of choosing a soccer crest profile pic based on liking the design on a board that's all about logo design even though you've never supported the team or even been to the city, is people trying to dunk on you by taking shots at a team you have zero connection to...

Anyway, next door in Canada... decent name, not a great crest

    Definite PTW.

  10. I think SeatGeek Stadium for a Chicago team could work. Also, if the NY area had one team, I think it would be better if they could play at NYCFC's future stadium. If thought they could go two, then I think Red Bull Arena and NYCFC would be the best options, assuming availability, of course. I still think Columbus could be a good option at HSC, which, honestly, looks more like a football stadium than the  soccer stadiums these days. No doubt Canton has probably the better stadium, but I think Columbus has the better market. Although they could go by "Ohio" and maybe play a couple games in Canton.

Is it possible that Washington DC's association with the color red predates some two year old expansion team and that not everything is about some mediocre soccer team from St Louis, a city that most people in DC spend zero time thinking about?

Before you get unnecessarily snarky, maybe do some research and see that City Red specifically references Pantone 1925, which DC's is very very close to, if not an exact match, when put next to a pms 1925 swatch in Illustrator. This particular color is not widely used across sports, so yes, when another team uses it or a shade extremely close to it, it's a little noticeable. The initial post was a little tongue-in-cheek, but you clearly like to take things personally. I believe we have another addition to the PTW list.🤦‍♂️

(And the "mediocre team" quib is really funny when coming from a fan of a team that no longer exists)

If I recall correctly, the NBA had a policy at the time of not allowing the use of black in logos or uniforms during rebrands anymore. Dallas was able to convince the league to let them use black in their logo, but for whatever reason, they wouldn't budge on the uniforms. So the Mavs settled for navy instead because it was close enough.

Ironically, the Sonics' rebrand at around the same time had the opposite situation. They were allowed to use some subtle black trim on the uniforms, but the logos were strictly green and gold. On the other hand, the Suns' redesign from the year before was the same situation as the Mavs: black in the logos, but not the uniforms. Maybe the real policy was that they'd let you have one or the other but not both.

I'm not sure if any of this is true. And where did the Sonics have any black trim on their uniforms at the time?

So the Cardinals have woken up, for now. I’ll enjoy it if it lasts. The team still has some issues, but if they can stay in contention until the all star break, they have to get one more pitcher and maybe some DH help or there will be riots in STL. Goldschmidt and Arenado can’t carry them on their own anymore but the young guys are playing well. They’re not as talented as the Dodgers or Phillies, but they have the horses to overtake the Brewers, especially if they make a stab at a pitcher.

I hope good play doesn’t save Marmol’s job because he’s incompetent, and the team/management needs to take a long look in the mirror, but they’re playing good baseball right now. I hope they can sustain it… I think?

Actually, Burleson is holding down the DH spot pretty well, while rotating other guys through to give them a semi-day off. But this mirrors last year. Rough start, then about mid-May, take off, beating good teams, looking like they're back only for it to flip to June and come back to reality. As long as they aren't terrible terrible the rest of the way, I fear they will use a mediocre season as an excuse to give him another season. Turner Ward would probably be the first sacrificial lamb if the hitting regresses again.

All that despite having spent more time in Atlanta than Toronto during the formative days of his career...ha. But I also ain't Torontonian so my opinion doesn't count on this. At any rate, if it increases marketability for Toronto (i.e. brings in mo' dollaz), then all the better for the city..or so I would hope.

Honestly I think the WNBA team is the one that got the updated brand right.

The wordmark (which the Wolves also use) is a good modern clean-up of the o.g. pointy font. The base shade of blue is that fairly unique teal-ish shade of the KG years. Navy and lime are fitting trim colors but they do their best work, as here, as trim colors (and you need a green somewhere).

This could use one or two more elements to make it less plain -- maybe that side texture like the current Wolves' had on their grey or their mashup City jerseys. This exact jersey's plainness feels cheap. But the color scheme and basic design feels like a more successful modernization of classic Wolves to me.

    minnesota-lynx-explorer-edition-womens-d

It's pantone 647. Literally the exact blue the Timberwolves have used since the initial KG rebrand and still use to this day. It's never changed. It's actually a fairly commonly used shade. It's the "steel blue" for both the Avalanche and Blue Jackets (their vintage alternate).

Well this is monumental for college football. Surprised it hasn't been listed before. Not only are the Power 5 schools going to settle with the players, but then agree to share up to $20m/yr for each power 5 school.

I knew with the collectives that popped up this wasn't far behind. But the pace at which it changed really was staggering.

Now, with the schools on the hook, do we see more realignment to further concentrate the power 5 down to 2 or 4 major conferences?

It's already down to a power 4; SEC, Big Ten, Big 12 and ACC.
