  1. Derrick Brooks says the Big 12 and FSU has been talking. He has rank I also read some tweets from Greg Swaim. Take it for what it's worth but he tweeted this. "# Big12 already formulating plan to help cash strapped # FSU buyout of # ACC deal, if needed. No word on other schools possible buyouts." "Per Brian Ethridge. 10 teams have called Big XII to open dialogue. Seven of them coming from the ACC. One from Big East. One independent"
  2. You hear that Grambling & Southern? Harvard & Yale? Knock it off... only schools with an athletic budget that rivals the GNP of third world countries get to have passionate fan bases! Actually, yes. More passion equals more money.
  3. This deal all but said, screw football. I think if they do expand it will be two basketball schools. Clemson and FSU might not be the only ACC schools that will bolt for the Big 12. Maybe Miami. Though I still think they are close to death. Their death is just an opinion though. I tell you what. I cant wait to have Texas, West Virginia, and Oklahoma as division rivals. Eventually the Big 4 will have at least 14 teams each. Where will ND end up? Times are changing. They have to go somewhere. Kudos to Utah and TCU for making it in this Big 4. Too bad for Boise State unless somehow they end up in the Big 12. I wouldn't bet on it.
  4. This BOT article seems to be the spark that lit the powder keg. DWF did a great job of putting in a nutshell the big reasons why. Word is the big 12 has a boner for FSU. Expect this done and done soon. Makes sense on both sides. I mean how could you not? Get ready because CFB is now the Big 4. Just in time for the 4 team playoff. The latest TV deal proves that the ACC cares about basketball and will drop football to feed the tobacco road beast. That is cool. It was nice to take down the ACC in basketball on our way out.
  5. FSU BOT Blasts the ACC. This new TV deal favors basketball and FSU is pissed. I'd bet the farm that FSU wont be in the ACC 5 years from now. It has to be Big 12 or bust. My guess is at least three other teams will join them. I think Clemson will be with them for sure. Maybe Miami with FSU but I think Miami is on the brink of death.
  6. Fixed it for you Yup. Besides, it is 2012. Why should it?
  7. I think FSU will do what it takes to leave the ACC. They were not happy at all when the ACC added Syracuse and Pitt. They wanted to use those spots for stronger football programs. Word is the Noles are pushing the adding of Notre Dame. If that don't happen, they are out. I want the Big 12 bad. Texas, Oklahoma, and West Virgnia has rivalry potential.
  8. On the road. In overtime. 24 hours after a school tragedy. The plane crash is so overstated and not really relevant. The football players have little connection to a WBB coach. More relevant is that they blew a 17 point lead in the 2nd half. Except they interact every day in athletics facilities. No big deal. Plus it's more of a "That could have been us" dynamic. The guy in the black sweater is OSU football player Jamie Blatnick. I agree. Plus, They had to fly right after they were told of the tragedy. Focus gone. Besides, i'm still a firm believer that undefeated does not equal better.
  9. When there are 100+ teams playing totaly different schedules.
  10. A non champion team making it to the NCG with out a tourny is a problem.
  11. I agree because it ruins the regular season to the point that it won't matter anymore. For example, a BCS No.4 who hasn't won their conference could win the Nat'l championship. That is the explanation why I think the playoff system is for college basketball not for football. Because we know in this current system a team who hasn't won their conference can't win the championship. I would feel better about that non conference champion team if they had to play another top tier team in the gauntlet. There are 100+ teams there. Schedules are so different. Undefeated shouldn't hold the weight it does. Look at the NFL. The Giants were the best team at the end of the year. Sure, they weren't at week 5 but the season should be looked at as a qualifier and a tinkering tool to get you the best squad at the end of the year. That is the way I view the season. Seems so fair from these eyes.
  12. So 2 out of the 3 teams that play in the league's largest market are currently going through turmoil. What in the hell. People on here are cheering that hockey is failing in the South. I don't think they know that's a bad sign for the league as a whole.
  13. Ummm....doesn't the SEC already HAVE two teams in Tennessee? To go with the two in Mississippi and the one in Arkansas? I think the SEC pretty much has Memphis covered. Especially now that Calipari is gone. UT is located in Knoxville - a good six-hour drive from Memphis (and in a different time zone). Vandy is located in Nashville, which is three hours away. Fayetteville (Arkansas) is five hours away, at least. Oxford (Ole Miss) is a good seven hours from Memphis, and Starkville (Miss State) is about a three-hour trip. None of those locations "cover" Memphis by any means, and trying to tell recruits that they'd be "close to home" or that their parents would be able to watch them play would be ludicrous. When it comes to college hoops, Memphis exists by itself. They have been yearning for an opportunity to join a conference like the Big East to renew their rivalries with teams like Louisville and Cincinnati. But their football program has been what has been holding them back. Their stadium is by far the worst in D-1 FBS, and the product they put on the field isn't much better. And the fact that they fired the only coach to take them to a bowl since 1971 after one bad season only adds to the perception that they have a Napoleon complex when it comes to football. Memphis basketball is big in Memphis. Memphis football in not. I've been to Memphis numerous times in the last couple years. Despite having a Conference-USA school down the street, the SEC (mainly Tennessee and Ole Miss) is king in Memphis for football. Tennessee has a medical school there, and in general, UT football is #1 in every Tennessee city, Nashville included. FYP Has it been confirmed that they'll be playing in the East? Even so, they'll have to compete with the likes of Georgia, South Carolina and Florida on a yearly basis. Those might not be on the level of LSU, Alabama or Arkansas but they are still definitely not teams that will lay down for Mizzou by any means. How many conference/national championships was Missouri winning in the Big XII? Missouri isn't going to the SEC because they believe they'll contend better (right away, that is). They're going because it's a better solution for them long-term, as well as the SEC being an equal-in-revenue-sharing conference and getting away from the Texas-slanted Big XII. Just because Mizzou wont compete today, doesn't mean they wont compete tomorrow. If you would have told someone in the 80's that Florida would be a force, they would laugh.
  14. No it doesn't. If it had stability, why would they go and raise the exit fee to $20m? Obviously the folks in ACC-ville are paranoid of the B1G raiding Maryland (though I have no idea why they'd go after a basketball school with an Athletic Department that's flat broke) and the SEC raiding Clemson and/or Florida State. Because only the SEC and B1G have the ability to poach the ACC. The Big East and Big 12 have no chance at poaching. Any conference could take any Big East school. Not untouchable but pretty stable.
  15. This guy reeks of 13. Look, you are grossly underestimating the ACC, while grossly overestimating the Big Least. The ACC has stability.
  16. Football is the main catalyst but basketball and academics are being factored. I never said basketball was the catalyst. I know why Kansas isnt being looked at.
  17. And yet one of the most storied programs in college basketball history (Kansas) could very well have been scrambling for a home after last year's realignment chatter. It's simple: Why isn't anyone interested in Kansas? Because basketball is an afterthought in realignment talks. Why isn't anyone in Rice or Tulane? Because academics are irrelevant in realignment talks. mod edit DING! Thank you for bringing the light. Now, everyone, back to the FOOTBALL realignment discussion. Because their football program is terrible. Conferences are looking at football more than basketball but BOTH are being looked at.
  18. Basketball programs are important to this discussion. They are moving with football. Mizzou's basketball is moving with their football. Boise State would be in the Big 12 by now if Football wasn't the only thing they were good in. If Boise State had some Final Fours under their belt they would be hot.
