At my college, they use PepsiCo for their drinks, and one of my friends said "They replaced Sierra Mist with this knockoff!"

I only had Sierra Mist a few times, and I enjoyed it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it...

I was at the University of Maryland when they went from a Coke campus to a Pepsi campus. It was funny, despite being a Coke campus they had Pepsi machines around, like Coke did not mind. Pepsi took over, you could not find a Coke anywhere not even at on campus  convenience stores. Our McDonalds even served Pepsi, I think at that point only the 2nd one, the other being on Pepsi HQ property, did that.

I had Starry Zero Sugar this weekend. It was good, its not 7up or Sprite by any means. Its very syrupy with a very different Lemon Lime soda taste. My friend mentioned he felt like instead of copying Sprite or 7up, they maybe thought how can we make a Pepsi-like Lemon Lime soda, as Pepsi is known to be Syrupy and have that kind of mouth feel.

Keep in mind that none of these teams are the primary tenants in their home venues. My guess is that the Dome in St. Louis is probably already booked with previously-planned convention-related events for those opening three weeks.

I am going to assume set up for this is very elaborate and they need to the time before which would be the season start to set up. Like wise after this ends to clean up and install the football field.

  3. I think the ABC Affiliate WJLA (Channel 7) in DC does this too. They own Channel 8 which became "News Channel 8" a localized DC area News Station and they shared a news team. I think now the channel is called WJLA 24/7 News and that is the shared name of the news on WJLA proper.

  4. Wasn't the Nashville Kats owned by the Titans? They existed in that era where all the NFL teams were buying/creating AFL teams because they got a huge TV deal so they decided to make it an essential NFL Developmental league.

When everyone was making fun of "Major Tuddy" saying that they put him in an old R-words jersey, I didn't realize that he's wearing the full R-words uniform - look at the pants!  Why in the world would they do this, when some portion of the fan base is already complaining that they should have just kept those uniforms and slapped "Commanders" on them anyway?

If its like everything else, this Commanders re-brand was planned as soon as they dropped the R name but had to wait 2 years to fully get the branding done, with the BS idea they wanted to involve the fans. I bet the Mascot was on some levels already planned for last season (sans Commanders on the chest) but wanted the fans to "have a say".

Keep in mind the Commanders W is pretty much the same current logo with some lines around it as WFT so that part of the uniform on the mascot could easily been changed.  The Commanders like that across the chest also screams a quick cheap modification where it may have had a fully jersey in the original design.

I like the current uniqueness of their crest shape and branding overall but it definitely feels very dated in a 2000s way. Seattle seems to have an unusually competent FO so I feel like they won't let things go as sideways as some of the recent disasters we've seen, but I also wouldn't be surprised if there was at least one element that's just ill-considered change for its own sake, like injecting fluoro yellow into the brand or something. Just please don't be a roundel.

(Also change your color to city flag teal!!)

Or for that matter the one glaring thing that league's marketing team required, like making it roundel or something to make the BS marketing speak they come up with work. "We decided to change the blue to a brighter shade to look to a brighter future in the MLS. We changed the green to make it a stronger shade to show how strong we are in the league with our MLS CUP and Concacaf wins"

  7. Based on this Facebook post at the "Annual Business Meetings" the new logo/crest the Sounders have been talking about for a bit has been approved/confirmed. I am assuming we may see this soon:

    https://www.facebook.com/SoundersFC/photos/a.246043763588/10159083276358589/

The comments mentioned that they were told the Space Needle is being kept somehow on the logo

Personal Thought: I have no faith MLS's Marketing team to get this right and they will do what Columbus and Chicago already had to do and revert to something else 2 years later. Its pretty clear the league gives these teams no major choice in whatever get created. "You asked for it not us" mentality.

  8. -Would be interesting if the Guardians name being used for Orlando was at the request of Disney (via ESPN) is involved with the League and Marvel. I know a stretch but you never know. Like if this is successful we may see some Marvel Partnership like they do with minor league baseball in the future.

-Seattle changes totally trying to capitalize and/or confuse on Kraken.

MTV's The State is such an underrated, underappreciated & generally forgotten gem of a skit show! What a tremendous comedy troupe!

Essentially the group that became the cast of Reno 911.

    Damn.  Not cool.

I was not aware of this repackaging of Sprite.  I was referring to this kind of packaging:

Sprite 20oz Plastic Bottles - Applejack Sprite Diet Sprite Zero | Sprite | Town & Country Markets

In practice, I mostly drink seltzer nowadays, so this problem doesn't come up for me anymore.  But once in a while I will grab a Diet Sprite or a Diet 7 Up, and I seem to remember the contrasting labels still present.

Sprite is switching to all clear bottles for cost cutting reasons so they just added the logo change and used the Coke Zero idea with just having "Black" be the Zero Sugar identified. I expect all other Coke products to follow suit. And as we see with Fake Pepsi Sprite rebrand #5 them too.

Sierra Mist, this world was never meant for one as beautiful as you.

Note for the kiddies: that's a joke, playing off some famous song lyrics involving the word "starry".  In truth Sierra Mist won't be Sierra missed.  In a world that already has 7 Up and Sprite, there is no need from a consumer's standpoint for yet another soda in that space.  But Pepsi has to have a presence, for those contractors with whom they have an exclusive relationship, such as a fast food restaurant.

I just hope that Pepsi will handle the packaging for Starry better than it did for Sierra Mist, in terms of distinguishing the diet version.  On more than one occasion I was fooled into buying a bottle of the regular version of Sierra Mist because the labels looked too similar, realising my error only upon the first gulp of something too horribly sweet for consumption.  Pepsi should just use the inverse colouring that it uses on its flagship soda, the type of packaging that clearly marks the diet versions of Coke, Sprite, and 7 Up.

From other pics, and much like what coke is doing with. the Sprite branding, the Zero Sugar version will have a black cap and a black band:

Not sure what's more amusing, the state blunder or that these were being sold not even inside the stadium but in a glorified taco truck?

They had had those for almost 15 years now. I worked in a few of them when I was an employee of the team. They own 5 or 6 and they have them in the parking lots and by the pre-game pavilion end of the stadium. I believe they were initially bought when they moved back to Carlisle for training camp  briefly to gave a place to sell merch.  They are a hell of a lot nicer than a taco truck.

    Same, probably to NBCUniversal

I could see CNN getting spun off, the former AT&T RSN's sold to someone (maybe Monumental as Leonsis just bought out the DC NBC Sports Channel), and the Video Game division to be sold to one of the major studios.

They are making AOL Time Warner look like The Walt Disney Company.

I get the sneaking suspicion that they are going start selling subsidiaries here soon, like selling DC but as part of the deal retaining all film and tv rights.

Why so late in the season? October or November is a better time for these things.

Because by that time, they will already have a sub .500 record, and no one is going to go to the home games besides opposing team fans. This ensures that some fans will attend.

This image is going around LA Galaxy supporter circles and people think it's from the impending rebrand. Not sure where it originated from but what do y'all think?

I think it's a bit too similar to LAFC. I'd hate for it to look like LAFC came first and the Galaxy are some lower-division team that decided to copy them (no jokes about our recent records, pls).

I know its different but it somehow is giving me LA Wildcats from the XFL vibes
