  1. 32 teams are down to 16. Who will be crowned world champions? Round of 16 Morocco vs Latvia >>> The magic continues! After an unbeaten group play, Morocco falls behind Latvia with a few minutes to go in the 3rd, but salvages their run with a late tying goal and gets an OT winning to keep the dream going. Final >>> 2-1 OT Morocco Belgium vs Germany >>> Probably the most even matched game of the first round on this side. Belgium and Germany threw everything they had at each other, but its Belgium advancing to face Morocco after a tip drill goal gets them across the finish line. Final >>> 1-0 Belgium United States vs Norway >>> Norway caught the Americans sleeping, jumping out to a 3-0 lead but couldn't hold off the comeback as the United States stormed back to tie the game late and finish the comeback in overtime. Final >>> 5-4 OT USA Uruguay vs France >>> Both teams traded goals early, and it would be France who ends up with more at the final buzzer, moving on to face team USA in the quarter finals. Final >>> 5-3 France ----- Brazil vs Canada >>> Oh man. This was a game that should have been reserved for the Cup Final, but we got it in the first round. Neither team wanted to lose. So much so they almost played two full games just to win one. In the end, the world #1 gets on to the next round, winning the game in the 3rd OT. Final >>> 4-3 3OT Canada Czechia vs Kazakhstan >>> Kazakhstan made it this far but couldn't keep it going. Czechia rolls to an easy victory, meeting up with Canada in the quarterfinals. Final >>> 5-2 Czechia Argentina vs Nigeria >>> Nigeria looked to hopefully catch some of what Morocco was feeling, but it would not come to pass. Argentina manages a couple more bounces and moves on. Final >>> 5-3 Argentina England vs Finland >>> A quality matchup to end the first round. Finland looked to get on top of England early, but one goal wasn't going to cut it. England takes control in the second half of the game and sends the Finns home. Final >>> 2-1 England. Quarterfinals: Morocco vs Belgium >>> To quote Dave Niehaus, "It just continues, my oh my!" The Moroccans do it again, this time in a double overtime affair, heading to the semifinals after another heartstopping win. Final >>> 2-1 2OT Morocco United States vs France >>> The US tempts fate again, falling behind early to France and for a minute, looking like they'd run out of time to come back, but a furious 3 goal outburst in the 3rd sends the US through to meet the team of destiny. ----- Canada vs Czechia >>> A matchup we've been seeing more and more of in real life, but Czechia was no match for Canada this time. The Canadians have been a much different team than the team that lost to Morocco in group play and the Czechs found that out the hard way Final >>> 5-1 Canada Argentina vs England >>> It's coming home? Not this time. Argentina shuts out England to meet up with Canada in the semifinals. Final >>> 2-0 Argentina. Semifinals: United States vs Morocco: The clock strikes 12 for the Moroccans. Nursing a tenuous 1 goal lead late, the Moroccans make a costly turnover and let the US tie the game up. Morocco had several quality chances to win it in an overtime and a half, but weren't able to solve the US goaltending and the United States make it to the WCOH Final. Final >>> 4-3 2OT USA Argentina vs Canada >>> 3 goals were scored in the first period and none after that. Unfortunately, we would not be getting a US/Canada final, as Argentina managed the needed 3rd goal to advance to the WCOH final and a chance at history. Final >>> 2-1 Argentina Medal Round: Third Place Game: While I'm sure Canada would rather be playing for the world championship, a chance at revenge has to be a solid consolation prize. Canada avenges their early upset and salvages their tournament, winning the 3rd place game. Final >>> 3-1 Canada WCOH Final: Argentina had the chance to be the first team to win a FIFA World Cup and a World Cup of Hockey. The United States looked to simply complete the mission. And both teams came to play. No scoring through the first 3 periods of play, bolstered by outstanding goaltending on both sides. In the second overtime, the United States' experience started to shine through, forcing a bad turnover which turned into a 3-on-1 opportunity and the cup winning goal was scored. Final >>> 1-0 2OT United States A lot of words to close this one down. It was fun getting an idea I had back in 2015/2016 ish off the ground finally, but I gotta say, after two back to back series of simulated results that border a little but on the fan fiction edge, I'm glad its over. But I had fun doing it. I'm considering turning this into a regular thing over at the Alternate History Sports forum, so who knows. But thank you to all who followed along, commented or just enjoyed a causal lurk through the thread!
  2. Let's put a bow on this guy. Coming to us from the mountains, is Slovenia. Unlike many of the pan-Slavic nations, Slovenia eschews red, white and blue for their national teams in favor of green and blue, which is a welcome change for this group. the uniform design references three of the major mountain ranges, in cascading shades of blue. this is also repeated on the socks, while the pants have a mountain design, referencing the coat of arms. The alternate goes full mountain, which might remind some viewers of the Avalanche 2020 Stadium Series uniforms. For one last time: Pundit's Predictions: Unlike other groups, no team really presents as a favorite. The easy answers would be either Croatia or England, but France looks to cause havoc and I'd keep an eye out on Slovenia. No one gives them a real shot but they figure to join France in mucking things up. Game 1: England vs Slovenia >>> Remember what I said about mucking things up? Slovenia was outmatched the entire game, getting outshot by almost double, but England couldn't stay out of the penalty box and get a clear advantage. Slovenia kept a level head and upsets England. Final >>> 2-1 Slovenia Game 2: Croatia vs France >>> How about some more havoc? France gets on top from the beginning and doesn't let Croatia get any momentum going and runs away with their opening game. Final >>> 5-1 France Game 3: France vs England >>> One team coming off a huge win, the other is looking to rebound from a head scratching loss. France can't keep the good times rolling and England is back in the win column with a convincing win. Final >>> 4-0 England Game 4: Slovenia vs Croatia >>> Slovenia had a chance to all but secure a spot in the knockout stages with a win here against Croatia, but in a high scoring affair, it was Croatia who jumped back into the win column and set up a good finish for the group. Final >>> 6-4 Croatia <<<All 4 teams have one win and one loss at this stage in group play >>> Game 5: England vs Croatia >>> The formula is simple for the next two games: win and you're in. The two highest ranked teams in the group meet up and give us a good matchup. A 1-1 game heading into the 3rd is taken over by England and they manage the pivotal second win and all but knock out Croatia. Final >>> 3-1 England - England clinches spot in knockout rounds. Game 6: France vs Slovenia >>> Slovenia strikes first early and it looked like they had a chance to run away with it, but France stormed back with a flurry of goals to shut that down, securing a spot with England and closing out the group stages. Final >>> 5-1 France - France clinches spot in knockout rounds, England gets 1st position via H2H.
  3. Figured I could rapid fire the first two teams, since they were the only FCS teams to get a mention in the original series: Thanks to three generations of family connections, NDSU was the only other FCS team that got a redesign in the first go round, but it really wasn't a redesign at all, given that I just added a set of white pants to football and made some minor modifications here and there to the other sports. This time I really did try and go for something different, even if it wasn't fully a new idea. Football - I'm sure there's a big contingent of people out there that are loving that NDSU isn't winning the championship every year right now, but now you have to deal with the other Dakota State team doing it. As for the uniforms, I liked the addition of stripes around 2015/2016 and getting away from the Wentz era panel look, but I wanted something that was a little more interwoven to the history of NDSU football and connecting back to the D2 championships as well. So, the triple stripe fades into the past and a newer stripe emerges. the D2 Bison wore uniforms that closely resembled the Lombardi Packers' uniforms so I tweaked the stripes a little to resemble those but not be direct clones. The helmet and pant stripes mirror each other. The Harvest Bowl helmets stick around, having proven to be a huge hit since they were introduced. Hockey - Not the first Dakota school you think of when you mention hockey, but for a club program, they don't do too bad for themselves. The uniforms however, took a step backwards since the first go round. They're currently sporting black uniforms (with team colors at least) and grey and black uniforms. So that stops now, with the new stripe taking root on the sleeves and the hem. Went with the primary logo on the home and away uniforms as opposed to the charging bison. Since the other sports don't participate (at least to my understanding) in the Harvest Bowl, the alternates utilize the design from the green football helmet and use the wheat spike in the stripe on the sleeves and pairing down the stripe to a simpler northwestern style. Baseball - Nothing wild for the baseball Bison. Simplified the stripe down to a northwestern on the sleeves with some placket piping. Alternate keeps up the Harvest style, with the wheat stripe taking up some real estate on the sleeves. Yellow/green and green/yellow form the headgear rotation, with a similar story for the socks. I did briefly consider making the alternate all green, but it felt like a lot. Basketball - To the hardwood, we get away from the chevron catalog pattern to something that has a little bit of a retro feel. NW stripes around the arm/neck holes, full stripe down the sides of the jersey and shorts, finishing with the NW stripe at the bottom of the shorts. The alternates continue the Harvest look, and because I like to do weird things on basketball jerseys, the Charging Bison on the chest, number off center underneath it. (Logos can go on the chest of basketball jerseys and I'm sick of pretending they can't). Holdovers are out of the way, we can get into some new faces!
  4. It feels way too late in the wheel of change for the Seahawks to be getting new uniforms. And IIRC, they had to retire the Wolf Greys for the throwbacks
  5. I got my start by posting concepts on here in 2010. I tried out some design for almost every league at in some fashion or other. I still haven't stopped making things obviously, I'm still putting concepts out 14 years later. I think what helped me out was constantly trying new things which forced me in a lot of instances to learn new techniques to get designs done, so it helped with the technical aspects of designing. I think the biggest thing about getting into sports design as a career is that no two paths are the same for anyone. I went to college for a blanket graphic design degree, had (still do) a Behance and Dribble accounts, but it was my work on here that got me noticed to work for Boise State football, which got me an internship at the college I transferred to and then a year and a half later, I get hired by Fanatics and am getting advice on my designs and work by the guys working on the NHL jerseys. I guess if there's a way to sum it all up, it's to get your work out there. Instagram, Twitter/X, anyway you can. Follow people in the industry, get advice from them, and at the end of the day: make cool stuff
  6. I was gonna wait for the WCOH to be completed but I'm impatient. Buckle up because it's happening again. Austin | Tarleton | Utah Tech | West Georgia (2024) When I did the 1972 Project, I hadn't intended to go back and do anything like it again. I hand drew 131 football uniforms for 130 FBS teams (and a stray FCS team) and I wasn't even completely done with the drawing phase when I started posting teams in March 2018. Flash forward almost 3 years later and I had wrapped on the project. 130+1 teams, four sports, and a website allowing you to see football uniform combos. It was great. It was a massive accomplishment. And just 219 days later, the cycle was starting over again. But that was good. I couldn't control realignment and teams moving up. I missed on 4 teams that are moving up so now they get their chance. Rules are the same, but for those that are new to the arena: Nike is control of college sports aesthetics, much to probably some dismay from some corners of the world. In addition, every team in this universe also has a varsity level football, hockey, baseball and basketball teams. At the FCS level, this really means forming or potentially reviving unique looks for everyone and especially putting some catalog looks to pasture. Also something that is a little more unique to the FCS level that we didn't really have to worry about with the FBS teams: football teams will be given their football conference patches, but other sports teams in non-football conferences will be given those conference patches, i.e. NDSU playing football in the Missouri Valley but other sports playing in The Summit League. Plus in the downtime there were some improvements made to the templates, ways to see more options for socks and cleats at once and those sort of things. Anyways, let's pick up where we left off shall we? The Vandals were the last team in the original list of teams and they were there only because they were an FBS team when the light bulb first went off. And if you remember, they were still wearing old gold at that point. Well 4 years is a long time in the life span of a uniform or branding set. Now the Vandals have gone back to their vibrant Pride Gold. They also have slowly rolled out new uniforms based on the recent updates and haven't quite gotten them all out yet but I had some changes I wanted to make. Football - So football returns to their iconic look, black with athletic gold. Their new away uniforms utilize the Steelers stripe which has some historical precedence for the Vandals but I wasn't intent on making them complete Steelers clones. For the black uniforms, the stripes simply flip the black and white. Also a big addition to all the uniforms is a number font that gets close to the wordmarks but isn't an exact match. For the helmet options, a couple different gold, Vandals arch and the I block logo. Black helmet also sees the I block. I had pointed out in the FBS thread that Idaho suffers from a "Colorado Complex", having their official school colors be silver and gold, which don't always mesh well. But with the new gold, I felt that it could work this time, and the silver alternates swap out the Steelers stripe for a triple stripe, based on the Ken Hobart era uniforms. The alternate uniform would be initially paired with the black helmet with the Joe Vandal mascot logo on the sides. (Also those black helmets represent two different helmets. There would also be an option for white pants, they're just not pictured.) Hockey - I have said enough negative things about this hockey club so I'll spare you all that diatribe again. The Vandals hockey team mixes black, silver and gold and they do it pretty well but I wanted to get away from that and save silver for the alternate. So with that, the Steelers stripes come over to the sleeves. I retired their college wordmark + number treatment and replaced it with the I-Block logo. I did briefly consider a gold helmet for hockey, but I wasn't a fan in the end, so just black helmets. The silver uniforms for the non-football sports work into a fauxback sort of vibe. The college wordmark treatment returns, just with Joe Vandal under it instead of a player number, and the triple stripe swaps in for the Steeler stripes. Baseball - Boise State and Idaho both dropped their baseball programs in 1980 and they became club programs. Unfortunately for their varsity team's return, the club team doesn't offer too much to the aesthetic. 3 options for head gear: all black + I-Block, gold/black with the I+Block, and black/gold with Joe Vandal. Smaller stripes on the sleeves on V-neck uniforms. With the return to the classic gold color, it felt right for these uniforms. Alternate goes silver like the rest, stripes flip to the triple stripe. Black and gold sock options for the white and black uniforms, just black for the alternate. Basketball - Where basketball uniforms can be a little more expressive than other sports uniforms, that's not the case here. Simpler solid stripes around the neck and arm holes, main stripe down the sides of the jerseys. Contrasting waistbands, I-Block on the front, with the full stripe on the bottoms of the shorts, logo on the sides of the shorts. The alternate deviates ever so slightly from the others, using the wordmark from the 1981-82 team that won the Big Sky and lost just 3 games that season, but that's the only real deviation. The triple stripes make their way back and so does Joe Vandal. Some of you may remember I had a website where you could pick and make your own combos. I don plan on keeping that going, but it is in need of some serious help so updates might be a little slower there. But let's have some fun with it! And besides, the second movie in the trilogy is usually a better one than the first
  7. Comparing FIFA to IIHF ranks, France got the short end of the stick. #2 in the world down to #12. Aesthetically, I think France wins however in both hockey and football. Simple is often better and for France that is very true. A blending of previous football aesthetics with some recent hockey looks and the 75th anniversary Red Wings get you what you see here. For the alternate, a bit of a vintage look with the 1970's football stripes coming back. 1 left to go!
  8. While I could have been a little more picky about how the groups shook out aesthetically, I really just let the groups shake out how they did, which unfortunately ended up with group H being European heavy and RWB heavy also. Luckily for Croatia, they come attached with a very fun checkerboard pattern which added some individuality. Like I said, heavy on the checkerboard on the home and away uniforms, with a double stripe mixed in as well on the shoulders and hem. Went with all red equipment, outside the pants. Alternate uses the checkerboard pattern from their Olympic Committee logo on the chest and arms. 2 teams left to go!
  9. Welcome to the homestretch everyone. An apt description for Group H, our last quartet of teams. A very European bundle of teams, our last four nations each come with a varying degree of hockey history: A bit of a unique situation here, as Great Britain traditionally represents England and the other sovereign nations in IOC/IIHF events but for the first time, England will represent themselves at an international hockey competition. More known for their soccer team's recent successes, Croatia has been steadily climbing up the hockey ranks since Yugoslavia's dissolution and their hockey team's formation in the years following. A bit of a rough go here for France, as FIFA rankings have them at #2 but IIHF knocked them down two tiers to #12. But like many nations, they've improved a lot in recent years and look to make a splash here. Another former Yugoslav republic, Slovenia looks to improve on their two Olympic finishes with a big chance to do so here at the WCOH. And leading us off: Is it coming home? English soccer hasn't been able to get the job done, but maybe hockey will have better luck. For their first appearance representing their home nation, the English side takes the ice in very classically styled uniforms, taking some of the better elements of English football and distilling them into a hockey uniform. The alternate is much more modern, adapting the Blue-ties uniforms to the ice. C&C welcome!
  10. I thought it might be an issue but the voices told me it would be fine. Wouldn't be the first time they were wrong.
  11. Definitely not as much as you might think, or really at all outside of using character names as jersey models. Iceland has a very nice color palette and look to begin with, and there wasn't a lot I could do that I felt was a marked improvement. Very traditional all the way around, with the biggest change being the ice blue alternate. That's it for the teams, and to conclude the group: Pundit's Predictions: Finland has reached the top of the hockey world and I'd expect them to do the same in this group. Unlike other groups we've seen, there's a real chance that any of the remaining 3 teams could slot into second. Portugal feels like a team to watch, coming in as the odds on favorite for second, but dropping 3 games also feels very possible for this squad. Uruguay and Iceland both present as interesting teams who don't have any clear advantages over anyone but can cause chaos. Game 1: Finland vs Iceland >>> Iceland comes in with big dreams but Finland stops them for now, routing the Falcons to open play in group G. Final: 6-1 Finland Game 2: Portugal vs Uruguay >>> Portugal heard the rat poison and took it personally. In a tight game throughout, Portugal struck first and added an empty netter for insurance to get an opening win. Final: 2-0 Portugal Game 3: Uruguay vs Finland >>> Finland comes off a huge win, Uruguay off a frustrating loss. The lights might have been a little brighter than the Finns expected, as Uruguay is able to stave off a furious comeback attempt in the 3rd. Final 3-2 Uruguay Game 4: Iceland vs Portugal >>> The defense stayed home for this one as Iceland and Portugal combined for 13 total goals and almost 100 combined shots on net. Ultimately, Iceland was able to snag an extra point with a OT win. Final: 7-6 OT Iceland Game 5: Finland vs Portugal >>> A win for both teams puts them in good position to move on and a loss gets you on a flight home early. Portugal was unable to keep up with the Finns' speed and Finland picks up two points that puts them in the top two. Final: 4-1 Finland > Finland clinches a spot in knockout rounds, seeding dependent on Game 6. Game 6: Uruguay vs Iceland >>> Another win or go home game. A win for Iceland gets them the second spot, giving Finland the top spot, and a Uruguay win gets them top spot. This game really left the defenses at home, as both teams were fighting to the end, but in this game, it was Uruguay getting a couple more tucks to move on to the round of 16. Final: 8-6 Uruguay > Uruguay clinches top seed in group, Finland clinches second seed. Just one more group to go!
  12. Uruguay's design really was not an issue, it was how I was to differentiate them from Argentina, since both nations utilize black as a secondary/clash color to their shades of light blue. Uruguay basketball has been using navy blue as a clash color in recent years, but I instead turned back the clock and went with a 90s staple as used royal blue as a secondary color. Otherwise, the stripes are very much flag inspired, much more literally on the alternate, whilst maintaining a pretty traditional look. C&C welcome!
  13. Portugal presents an interesting case. They've gone through a couple different federations in terms of leadership, and have carried IIHF associate membership since 1999. To that end, Portugal is really not advancing the game in their country at the moment. So a lot of their look here is very inspired by their football team. A detail stripe now becomes the main look for the team, with a revised crest and subtle detail built off of that. The alternate goes black and is much more modern than the home and away, and features a lighter shade of gold. C&C welcome!
  14. Getting the penultimate group out to the masses, a group headlined by a new Olympic champion in Finland, a nation that's finished a couple games shy of a World Cup win, another nation that has won multiple World Cups (and Gold Medals), and finally, a nation that for a long time was known for being the villains in a kid's movie about a plucky hockey team from Minnesota. Finland finally climbed the mountain in 2022 and captured that elusive gold medal and look to claim a new trophy for the case in Helsinki Capturing that World Cup trophy has proven difficult for Portugal, but maybe changing up the playing surface will spark a new set of fortunes. A long history of winning at football and a history of hockey on wheels, but now Uruguay looks to add a legacy of winning on skates. The Dentist isn't coaching them, but Iceland proved they can compete with the best in football and looks to do the same in hockey. Like their Scandinavian counterparts, simple and elegant are good descriptors for Finland. Felt no reason to change that, but there are some added modern touches. A solid stripe turns into a linear gradient that fades from navy blue to light blue, which comes from the 2020 Euro kits that featured a more traditional gradient. The alternate sees the return of the Sochi flag jersey, this time in navy with some non-traditional logo placements. C&C welcome!
  15. I guess there's no time like the present to wrap up Group F: Poland doesn't normally strike you as a traditional hockey nation, but they used to be a regular visitor to the Olympics before 1992 and were a competitor at the World Championships. And when it came down to it, they scratched a non-traditional itch I was feeling and I wanted to get a new face out there. to that end, Poland wound up with a very traditional look, which improves upon their current look by fixing the stripes into something much more traditional. (Also I know Wojtek Wolski competed for Canada & is technically not eligible to represent Poland internationally, he had one of the best NHL/overall careers from a Poland born hockey player). To the alternate, which originally started out as a straight throwback, with the two sets of stripes which came from their 1928 Olympic uniforms which I then paired with a vertical stripe and soccer-style crest placement, which came from both the 2019 centenary soccer uniforms and a 2014 kit. Well that wraps the teams which means ... Pundit's Predictions: Group F is headlined by two non-traditional hockey countries, but either Argentina or Netherlands could come out on top of this group. Norway and Poland are betting longshots for taking the top spot, but we've already seen weird things happen and so let's see how this group shook out: Game 1: Argentina vs Poland >>> A less than exciting return to the top flight for Poland as they are unable to keep it close after a 2-1 first period deficit got very far away from them as Argentina is able to cruise to an easy opening victory. Final: 9-1 Argentina Game 2: Netherlands vs Norway >>> A much more exciting game than the first one. Norway and Netherlands squared off like two heavyweights, throwing haymakers left and right, ending regulation with a 2-2 tie. More back and forth in the OT period, ending with Norway putting a rebound home to steal a point from the Netherlands. Final: 3-2 OT Norway Game 3: Norway vs Argentina >>> Norway might have used too much of their magic to take down the Netherlands, because their game against Argentina was undisciplined, leading to another cruising victory for Argentina who now has largely locked up the group's top spot. Final: 3-0 Argentina Game 4: Poland vs Netherlands >>> With Argentina all but locking a spot up in the knockout, the Netherlands could really improve their position to advance with them. Unfortunately, they faced a Poland squad eager to prove they're better than an 8 goal shellacking. The Dutch skaters were unable to completely solve the Polish neutral zone trap and saw their chances to advance fall to near zero. Final 3-2 Poland Game 5: Argentina vs Netherlands >>> The matchup of the pre-tournament favorites definitely lost a bit of its luster, with Netherlands needing more help than they could get to get the second spot, but they skated hard and played like the experts thought they could, knocking off Argentina in OT but it was too little, too late as a Norway or Poland victory worked against the Netherlands. Final 3-2 OT Netherlands. Argentina clinches 1st place in group. Game 6: Norway vs Poland >>> Suddenly this game has a lot more at stake. The winner advances. Pretty simple stakes. In a game both teams needed to win, neither team wanted to lose. Extra time was needed in a high scoring affair, but it was Norway who recaptured some luck and magic to get the winning goal in OT, eliminating Poland and clinching second in the group. Final 5-4 OT Norway 8 more teams left! hopefully without the dumb mistakes on my end!
  16. I guess Group F stands for the group of -ups. Fixed Zucc's nameplate and went to single layer outlines on the numbers. I left the NORGE script double outlined. I didn't like the single outline on those.
  17. Very similarly to Sweden, I think Norway has found a look they can settle into and stick with for the rest of time. To that end the only real changes were in the fonts on the home and away fonts, as well as a new alternate, based on the 60's era red jerseys. Comments welcome!
  18. Thought I fixed that, but it was the wrong one I was thinking about. should be fixed now
  19. The Skating Dutchmen pretty much keep things very simple. The home and away jerseys exemplify the ideas of Total Hockey, with a double stripe headlining everything. The alternate evokes a sense of national pride, using the flag colors and a sash design reminiscent of the 2006 Euro designs. C&C welcome!
  20. Happy Holidays to all, and almost New Year! Group F is the first of just two groups to feature FIFA teams as the top two teams but hockey history isn't too far behind. Argentina has an interesting dilemma when it comes to hockey: their primary governing body covers both inline and ice hockey, but a secondary agency organizes youth hockey and a Argentinian league and those players can't participate in national team events. Its very confusing. The long and the short of it is, Argentina is more known for their inline program but has a ice team that has competed against other Latin American countries. The Netherlands have been playing internationally since the mid 30's and have made it to the Olympics once but have spent most of their time bouncing between some of the lower divisions since then, and have come much closer to winning the FIFA World Cup than getting back to the top flight in the IIHF. The oft forgotten member of the Scandinavian trio of hockey countries, Norway looks to do more than just hangout in the top division and make their mark, like their region-mates have done. While Poland hasn't been to the Olympics since 1992 and has been down in the lower divisions since the turn of the century but are close to making it back to the top division. And first up, FIFA's defending champions: Like Brazil, I managed to pick Argentinian soccer legends that all wore 10 at their international zenith so I had to get creative with youth and club numbers. As for the design itself, its a blend of the traditional stripes, this time subtle on the chest, and the 1998 GK stripes, which work out well as a traditional hockey stripe, which replaces the vertical stripes on the alternate and becomes chest stripes. C&C always welcome!
  21. Finally got the conclusion to Group E ready. It came as a bit of a surprise to me that Nigeria, despite having the largest population in Africa, has little to no hockey. I get that it's not a popular sport in Africa, but still just a little shocking. Anyways, all the inspiration comes from their football team, which lends their 2018 feather pattern to the sleeves of all 3 jerseys, the home and away taking on a pretty traditional look. the alternate uses the 2021 jersey pattern as a subtle look on the body, both front and back and goes "stealth-ish", using the darkest green and touches of the lighter green. That concludes the teams. How'd they fare against each other? Pundit's Predictions: It's the USA's group to lose, with more talent than any other team in the group with them. Italy and Denmark should have a solid battle for the 2 spot and Nigeria is going to get a fast introduction to international hockey, but don't be surprised if they can sneak a win in somewhere. Game 1: USA vs Nigeria >>> A closer game than most would have expected, USA only leading 3-2 entering the 3rd period, but the experience showed up by way of a 4 goal period to cruise to a late victory. Final: 7-2 USA Game 2: Italy vs Denmark >>> Back to back games with someone scoring 7 goals, but this one was never close. Italy came out swinging and never let Denmark into this one. Final: 7-0 Italy Game 3: Denmark vs USA >>> Another slow start for the Americans, but Denmark was unable to capture any momentum and the United States was able to skate around the Danes and all but lock up a knockout round spot. Final: 4-1 USA Game 4: Nigeria vs Italy >>> Nigeria showed they could at least hang with the United States before it got away from them and they did that and more with the Italians. Italy led most of the game but lost composure in the 3rd, surrendered a tying goal and just tried to hang on in overtime, and Nigeria took advantage and stunned the group with a huge OT win. Final: 2-1 OT Nigeria Game 5: USA vs Italy >>> After losing to Nigeria, Italy needed a regulation win to keep their hopes of advancing alive. Standing in their way was team USA, who clinched the group with any win. Italy did what they needed to do ... for the first two and a half periods. They couldn't hold onto a one goal lead forever and fell apart late. Final: 3-1 USA - USA clinches 1st place in group Game 6: Denmark vs Nigeria >>> In what turned out to be a much more important game than many might have guessed and with Italy's loss to team USA, Nigeria now had a chance to further shock the world and advance to the knockout round. A Denmark win would get Italy back in position to advance. This one went back and forth all game, with multiple lead changes but ultimately needed overtime to conclude. And in dramatic fashion, Nigeria shocks the world again by winning in OT and joining the US in the knock out round. Final: 6-5 Nigeria - Nigeria clinches 2nd place in group C&C welcome!
  22. No to the orange helmet, but orange pants need to be rotated in more. Yeah they got shafted by Nike when they got new uniforms and in less than a year it was already a catalog option.
  23. Boise State going orange/blue/orange for the LA Bowl, and IIRC, just the second time since orange helmets were introduced, this combo is being worn. EDIT: didn't see this at the time but this is apparently the final game for the slash stripe uniforms, as there will be new uniforms for the 2024 season.
  24. I remember LogoShak. Every now and again they'd have a logo the mothership didn't, which came in handy every once in a while.
  25. Bit of a later post than I'm used to, but nevertheless. Denmark's latest uniform set largely inspired these uniforms, and that's mostly all due to the use of a northwestern stripe. And against my normal feelings, I didn't like the chest stripe look for the Danes so it went back to being a fairly straightforward and classic style hockey set. The alternate is a carryover from my 2022 Olympics series, where the stripes run down the shoulder. The logo is a tweaked version of the home and away look, just set in an interrupted circle. Nothing earth-shattering but I'm down to hear what you guys think!
