  1. LOL no; one too many Texas schools, plus trips to Hawaii for everyone, and overall too many mouths to feed for their tastes. The schools that mattered in the Old, Old WAC did stay together, at least until the Pac-12 came calling.
  2. Only if they suffer more defections. Another thought, why isn't the ACC going after West Virginia. Is WV locked in some kind of contract? The same media rights deal the rest of the Big XII has that you keep ignoring. Only if they suffer more defections. Another thought, why isn't the ACC going after West Virginia. Is WV locked in some kind of contract? The ACC rejected WVU after the SEC did. Yeah but I think things have changed. I think the ACC would be a lot more receptive to adding them now since they lost Maryland and the loss of Virginia, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, NC State are all very real possibilities. If the ACC could grab Louisville to replace Maryland and then extend an invite to Cincinatti, they could make a move back at West Virginia say hey, we are the first real super conference (at least by Quantity). Even if we lose 1 or 2 members, we'll still have more or equal members than the rest of the conferences. Remember the WAC?
  3. So, I just made the mistake of venturing over to hfboards. Is it true that there is the possibility Jamison's investors are a Native American tribe that wants to set up a casino in the city (you know, something that might actually generate revenue) only the council doesn't want to build the casino and that in turn would jeopardize the vote because JESUS CHRIST NUKE THIS CITY FROM ORBIT ALREADY GOOD LORD YOUR COUNCIL IS LITERALLY THE DUMBEST SET OF POLITICIANS ON THE PLANET AND I FOLLOW DOWNSTATE ILLINOIS POLITICIANS. If this is true anyway... /Sorry Gary needed to be said
  4. Oh, I will enjoy the inevitable Glendale municipal bankruptcy filing being blamed on out of control public sector union wages and pension benefits as well.
  5. @smunshi Folks: when you go out, enjoy those lights. That's probably the last time you'll see them. Streetlights or Christmas lights? If the latter; them the breaks. If the former; I'm seriously thinking of moving forward with establishing an organized crime ring in Glendale. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTW R.I.P. Blue Jackets Nous aurons toujours 2009
  6. I would like to see the council ask the Coyotes Peanut Gallery for a show of hands to see just how many of them live in Glendale. Then have the Master at Arms toss the non-residents out.
  7. Glendale's the town in Tom Goes to the Mayor, isn't it?
  8. Trading one form or moral failure for another I see....(Grand Canyon's a for-profit; their total graduation rate is 38%) Sadly, each of those markets have a population which does not attend those games or is a fan of the home town team. There is a larger state university which is preferred at a much larger rate. #4- Philadelphia--Penn State #5-Dallas/SMU--> Texas, aTm, TxTech have larger local alumni bases #9- D.C.--> Hoops only. Navy is known nationally, but not that nice a pick up. #10-Houston (if still a member)--see Dallas #13-Tampa/USF: Both Florida and Florida State #20-Orlando/UCF--> See Tampa #34-Cincinnati--> Ohio State #48:Memphis--> University of Tennessee #50-Louisville: Not a football state #53-New Orleans/Tulane-->LSU San Diego (if still a member)--> USC territory I see what your saying, but, the Big East isn't trying to be a Super Conference. They know they can't beat the SEC or Big Ten in ratings but they can be the runners up. The Big East wants to a) survive make sure that they will be the best mid-major conference once super conferences arrive. Also, Big East schools are second or third in most of these markets. That's good enough! Don't you mean 4th or 5th? Remember, most of these cities have pro teams too.
  9. For the last time...Kansas State's academics are not in issue. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cincy appears to also be joining the "let's join the ACC" fray. Appropriate mood music for this race/stampede follows.
  10. Yeah, Army and Navy are going to look great on the ol' RPI. That said, they won't join for basketball and Olympic sports. Patriot League's possibly a bigger bastion of NCAA amateurism than the Ivy League and hoo boy they'd be getting massacred for decades if they tried to join a major conference from where they are at.
  11. That's what the Big East has become. Conference USA featuring Temple.
  12. But what about how Notre Dame makes a glorious commitment to America by playing against Army and/or Navy? And what about how just about every other FBS school makes a glorious commitment to playing a tough gauntlet by playing against [insert favorite FCS school here]? MDWM That said I will acknowledge how Notre Dame plays Navy out of a real sense of World War Two obligation for how the Navy kept their doors open then. Although I'm sure the fact that the Middies typically remember their present place in the pecking order when they face Notre Dame also helps.
  13. 1. North Carolina is a bigger TV market than Kansas. 2. The Big 12 teams aren't leaving the Conference. The TV money is centrally distributed by the Conference to which they just signed their TV money and broadcast rights over to for the next decade. And no, the Big XII won't give you the money even if you ask nicely, because Baylor, TCU, and Iowa State have everything to lose by giving up on said Conference and nothing to gain. So, nobody's leaving.
  14. YES! Here's what happens once the ACC falls apart. (In a dream world!) Big East adds Syracuse, Boston College, Pittsburgh, Connecticut, Duke, Wake Forest and Notre Dame for a mega-basketball-conference that is just as good as the other super-conferences in basketball. The New York City Tournament is even cooler now! Big East schools sign an agreement that football will not be as important as basketball and forms a small football league. Syracuse BC Pittsburgh Connecticut Duke Wake Forest Notre Dame (plays a majority of these teams anyway and it only occupies 6 spots on the schedule for ND so they can still play Navy, Stanford, USC, Etc.)
  15. The following is a list of ACC Bowl tie-ins: Peach Bowl Russell Athletic/Champs Sports Bowl Sun Bowl Belk/That Game In Charlotte Bowl Music City Bowl Independence/WeedEater Bowl Military Bowl Quite the lineup of fail/safes there folks.
  16. If the choice is riding the ACC down to fiery destruction or grabbing a life raft but sacrificing a Conference rivalry with Duke...well Duke can always be a non-Conference game in basketball, especially post-K Duke. "Half a League, Half a League, Half a League Onward. Into the Valley of Death, rode the 600"
  17. How in the heck did BC wanted to get in the BIG? Where did you hear them McD29? The past page of mumbling Mind you, this presupposes that a Notre Dame entry into the Conference would be on their terms, which is incredibly off base; any expansion is going to be completely on the Big Ten's terms.
  18. Which as a Maryland fan would be dumb to bring them back right away. They need to look at this like an investment. They need to sink the extra Big Ten money into the revenue sports and get them to the point where they are producing enough revenue. The you can think about brining back and adding sports. Maryland's financially boned BECAUSE they sank money into the revenue sports.
  19. Nobody in the Big XII is leaving. The media rights contract is cost-prohibitive.
  20. Minimal impact upon them unless they get tapped to flesh out an eviscerated conference.
  21. It wouldn't be a permanent 13 team league. The Big Ten would never start a season with 13 teams. The Big Ten would invite Maryland and then go after Virginia, UNC and either Duke (becuase UNC wants to stay with Duke) or Georgia Tech-more likely. If all of those teams decline, then invite Rutgers. That would potentially put the Conference on the hook for $200 million. No, that's a non-starter. And Duke's not worth adding. Georgia Tech's likely not worth adding either. Virginia may be a bridge and North Carolina best fits the Big Ten profile (barring massive academic sanctions for their fraud issues) but even that's iffy for addition. And there is the possibility of everybody saying no too. Just avoid the risk and wait to announce until you have 14.
  22. It's stupid to have a 13 team football league if you can avoid it. The B10 hung with 11 for a while. See "if you can avoid it". That said, 13's a lot more unworkable than 11 because of unbalanced divisions and the unpleasantness of having an odd number of teams is not something the Big Ten is keen on repeating.
  23. It's stupid to have a 13 team football league if you can avoid it.
  24. Duke is irrelevant. There is no point in adding them.
