  1. The more I think about this, the more I think you're right. And I found a Prometheus reference in Bud Adams' obituary. https://www.tennesseetitans.com/news/titans-owner-k-s-bud-adams-jr-passes-away-11586605 Additionally, and I never knew this, Prometheus had his primary cult center in Athens.
  2. Nashville does claim to be the Athens of the South (hence their replica of the Parthenon) but Athens was not Olympia. That city is on Peloponnese and basically the other side of Greece. You might have something on Prometheus, who was a Titan (one of the few spared by the Olympians after the Titanomachy) and stole fire from Olympus. I guess Titans is more catchy than Prometheans. Still, I think the main point is that it looked cool and there really isn't an obvious reason for a shield to be on fire.
  3. I would actually be more of a mind to go with no stripes than anything conventional. What really worked about that helmet was the aforementioned flames wrapping around the back. The truncated stripes at least didn't interfere with that effect. You'd get stripes in front but unobstructed flames from the back. You can't really get that with the current helmet because the spike comes from the back cluttering up the view from that angle. I can't comment on the number font because A. I'm not sure how block numbers would fit into the shoulder yoke and B. a specific alternative doesn't leap to mind.
  4. "One of these things is not like the others, one of these things just doesn't belong..." The myth of the titans has nothing whatsoever to do with flames and the sword logo with its straight rather than leaf shaped sides coming to sharply angled point more closely resembles a Roman gladius than it does an Greek Xiphos or Kopis (and if you think this nerd hasn't been holding onto that one for a quarter century think again). BUT... The above nitpicks don't really matter because the original Titans design got the memo about what make classics like Chicago, Green Bay, San Francisco, and Pittsburgh classics. They had a satisfying color scheme that balanced its elements in reasonable proportions from the jersey down to the socks and didn't overburden itself with gimmicks. The jersey was a straight forward shoulder yoke with a contrasting collar (until the Nike template) with numbers on the shoulder and a logo on the sleeve. The pants had straight forward Brasier stripes and when they were worn in combos like navy over white or white over Columbia it worked really well. The designers also knew that logo that can be viewed from the back of the helmet like the Eagles' wings, Vikings' horns, and Seahawks'... stripes(?) are visually striking. So they added some flames so you could see something from the back of the helmet and if you asked why they were there a simple, "It looks cool sufficed." Was it ever on the same level as the Steelers or Bears? Of course not, but it was damn good.
  5. Unicron understood the importance of balancing colors in a non-monochrome fashion. He even happens to be wearing classic Broncos colors.
  6. I am disturbed by how much I like the blue over bone combination.
  7. It's certainly close. I like the GB/CHI in Lambeau matchup because of autumnal blend of yellow, orange, and green with cool navy blue. Raiders and Chiefs is terrific in no spall part because the white elements are similarly minimized. Maybe third on my list behind this one because the Chargers have the softer powder blue: If we could get this consistently it might challenge for the top spot.
  8. I'll be honest, the new Rams set has really grown on me. I think the yellow could be little more athletic gold and less highlighter but the general layout, I kinda like.
  9. While we're discussing Green Bay... Don't change a stitch. As much as I hate that team, this is best looking game every single year.
  10. Similar feelings here. I have a design for the City of Chicago to own the Bears and turn the President and GM position into a publicly elected office.
  11. I can understand people down ranking the Bears because of the orange alternate. That said, this is still the best in football to me:
  12. If someone gets a hat trick, all fans in attendance get suspiciously free "pizza."
  13. When it comes evaluating a uniform change, think of it this way. You turn on the TV. Team X is wearing the new uniforms. You flip the channel and when you flip back the team is wearing the previous uniforms. Are you happy or sad?
  14. Sure you can do it retroactively. You could do anything you like going forward. I would just say up to this point the Vikings have not had grey/silver as a color.
  15. It looks like at some point they were trending towards a full 1966 throwback but cut it short. Literally, the bottom of the sleeve striping got cut off. I wonder why they didn't opt for just this? You'd still get the Avalanche-style peak but the stripes would show more clearly. And if you wanted to throw in a classic white/orange/white helmet stripe and a white facemask, well I wouldn't complain.
  16. I'm very opposed to any white socks, white pants, color jersey combination (Pat Patriot throwbacks included). I've gotten used to the leotards in team colors so it doesn't bother me.
  17. The pants and socks color are the same in every example shown except the white jersey/orange pants combo.
  18. When it comes to grey facemasks, that was just the original color of the material from the manufacturer, kind of like how we don't count the silver from the chinstrap buckles. That changed when the first colored masks became available and teams could opt to move away from factory grey. The Cardinals in 2023 are the first instance I've seen of a team trying to retroactively add that facemask color to their overall scheme (admittedly they switched the facemask color to silver from grey to pull that off).
  19. The shade of blue seems much much brighter.
  20. Having digested the Lions for a few hours, here are my thoughts: The home uniform is nice. I feel strongly the Lions should wear silver numbers. I thought it was a major bonus in their previous set. It invokes the 1930's set which is the best look they've ever had. So going back to white feels like a step back even though so much about this home design really works. The stripeless pants (white, blue, black) make me sad. They aren't aesthetically bad per se but I don't see the reason to worry about making sure the stripes all match. They don't match across every on the home uniform, so just put the appropriate stripes on every element. The black should not have come back. I don't why it's back and if bringing it back is why the blue pants have no stripes it definitely shouldn't be back. The new facemask is fine. I will miss the silver ones though. The Northwestern stripes being gone kinda bugs me. The Detroit Lions have had Northwestern stripes in some form or another since 1961 and its a little sad to see them go even if the overall look is very nice. Overall, I think this is pretty good but I'm going miss the previous set.
