I wonder how the Panthers helmet would look if the stripes had reversed colors. Meaning blue stripes with black outlines, matching the stripes on the silver pants.

To be honest, I like the idea of dropping the contrasting collar for Carolina. It's been more obvious that the collar doesn't quite match the shoulder loops. The old collar was much more subtle and it was easier for it to be more of an accent.

The vent holes at that spot definitely mean we're getting the Vapor Fusion template.

I like it!! I think it addressed the stripe weight issue I talked about above. Hopefully we see something similar with the pants.

Probably the right idea. Also I'd like to see the weight of the shoulder/pant stripes corrected. I always felt the original version, with thicker outer striping worked better, though I understand the change.

On a traditional template scale running from 1997 Buccaneers to 2014 Buccaneers, where are we on new rumored Cardinals uniforms?

I genuinely miss the orange cap/undershirt look for the Astros. That was at the time they had laid out a hyper specific schedule for their uniforms (I think it was orange jerseys on Friday, orange caps on Saturdays, and tequila sunrise panel navy jersey on Sundays). Very unique and gone too soon.

I think that made a lot of sense when the pro game was expanding through television. Remember that the NFL instituted its original strict number policies in the 1950's in imitation of the college game (which had already standardized numbers by position). So millions of eyeballs that had never seen an NFL game could recognize player positions on grainy black and white television and figure which of the single-bar facemasked bodies was a receiver or lineman. Today, however, we have high definition streams and everyone has some unique combination of helmet type, facemask, undershirt, gloves, cleats, wristbands, and jewelry that everyone knows from their fantasy teams. We know so much more about individual players than we probably ever have so rather than saying "53 covering 80" is a mismatch" we can say "There's no way Roquan Smith can cover Justin Jefferson for more than half a second."

Curious about the pant stripe on the Atlanta city connect. Are they red-blue-red or red-white-blue-white-red? Doing a 5 color pant stripe would be an interesting development.

Interesting question as to where the Cardinals identity fits. They're technically the oldest franchise in football but they play in a hyper modern, sun belt stadium. Who knows where they'll go with changes.

I understand we're nearing the 'Aughts period of the nostalgia cycle. As someone who suffered through the Eighties nostalgia cycle, can we please, please not do this with the Nationals?

I think you've expressed your impressions very well here and you're close to figuring out exactly what's working for you and what's not, so I'll just highlight a couple of things because I'm finding this interesting: 1. The difference between "Royals" and "Twins" is only one additional letter BUT the Twins script used here is particularly tall to fill the horizontal space which gives it more of a fine, airy feel. You also have the false ligature between the "i" and the "n." In the original Twins script and traditional cursive, the line coming off of the "i" would have to travel all the way to the upper left corner of the "n" and then swoop downwards (a product of it being really hard to get a good line pushing a quill nib upward on the page). So there's an extra vertical line that's missing, creating a much shorter mark than you might expect. 2. As pointed out by others, mono color marks are common but mono color marks in red are much rarer. You have the Phillies and the Reds but that's the exception. So a single layer, mono red script could be surprising to some, even as its pleasing to others. 3. I think this is definitely trying to be the 70's, 80's Carew era but there's a big difference: Imagine that home uniform with a red cap and see if it changes your perspective. Even look at it with the panel batting helmet and how the change in headwear makes it more familiar:

Here's the rub. The Twins jerseys are not limited to a single color because there's also a number. There's more chromatic diversity on the front of the new Twins jerseys than there is on White Sox road jersey. If you don't like the new Twins set, that's fine but I don't think any kind of universal maxim of baseball design is being violated here.

The blue pants are what save the CC from my perspective.

The use of two colors in single layer emulates the TC logo which is by far and away the most classic and instantly recognizable part of the Twins identity.

I like the current Lions set but I'm right with you on the 2009-2016 set. Sneaky modern classic.

Same reason the Goodyear logo has a wing and Jay Garrick wears a helmet.

I might be on record somewhere else on the boards but the below (with maybe a brushed silver helmet like the old Seahawks) would be pretty cool for the Lions: Color and numbers wise since I'd like to see Northwestern stripes on the sleeves.
