Eagles have confirmed the all black unis for Christmas Day….so much for Kelly green against the Giants’ road red/white

I knew they had it in for them when I stumbled upon their Wednesday Wallpaper post this week of players in those uniforms. Oh well...

Missed opportunity at the throwback kelly green vs the faux-back all-white for NYG even though the Giants only have one win wearing that uniform.

ESPN, ABC, and FOX has a period from the 90s to the mid-late 2000s where many parts of graphics packages, and the score bugs, would use helmet logos for teams rather than the actual primary logos. You could tell because the Vikings and Rams would have their horn, Eagles would have their wing, Bengals their stripes, and the Browns would either be an orange blob, or their helmet stripes, depending on the network or graphics package era. I feel like the Vikings, Eagles, and Rams helmet logos work much better in application for score bugs than their primary logos due, thanks to being less tall and more wide.

This was my favorite component of Fox 2003-2006 graphics package. If they or another network would bring in a new package inspired by that or its elements of prioritizing helmet design over primary logos and abbreviations to identify teams, it'd be fun to see, especially since that would likely bring the Bears' wishbone C some of the shine it lost after the primary logo switch.

Whoever's picking out the uniforms is on a superstitious roll. They haven't picked out another uniform at home besides purple/black in Week 3 vs Indy and all-black next Thursday vs the Bengals. For the rest of the way, I expect the Ravens to wear this at home for every Sunday afternoon game.

Even if the other uniforms with purple jerseys aren't gonna be worn again this season or at all, I'm all for it.

  4. Curious as to when the Ravens will break out that CR all-purple from here on out. Since next Thursday's game is already ruled out, the home options left in order are: Browns, Rams, Dolphins, Steelers. Pittsburgh is the only team they haven't worn it against. Both the Browns and Rams went up against it when they had their previous uniform sets in tact.

If I had to pick one, it'd be the game against the Rams. I don't see a repeat of 2016 vs Cleveland this week, and one or both games against Miami and Pittsburgh are strong candidates to be flexed into primetime right now, likely giving way to another appearance of the black jersey.

  5. I also just remembered the O's could end up with a busy jersey next year. 2024 is going to be another "anniversary season", so assuming they make and place a logo on the sleeve, I fear the state flag roundel will go away for just next season to make room for the 70-seasons logo since the opposite sleeve is going to be blank or filled in by a sponsor come Opening Day. I can't see a situation where they force the anniversary logo on the chest during the regular season to keep the roundel where it is.

    Who could've seen this coming?

First time in some time I've seen the Ravens go this far out of their way to reveal their uniform of choice. I want to say the 2019 SNF game vs the Pats was the last such occasion, though that ended up with them wearing black/white in a game they heavily promoted as a "blackout" night and they started hyping it up on socials as early as the Tuesday or Wednesday before gameday.

Obviously, can't be surprised considering, much like last year, this is the only home primetime game that was scheduled from the jump. Only difference here is that there's more promotion to the fan "blackout" theme than last year's SNF clash with the Bengals.

It’s crazy. I didn’t expect the sixers new drop shadow to be that noticeable…..

    it is SUPER noticeable lol

Should've never messed with the shadow to begin with. I think the entire set of jerseys was fine before the red alternate got its one changed last season.

  8. I got a bad feeling the empty half of the baseline was ruined by having Michelob Ultra slap their logo over there during the Finals. Now it looks like their court-side sponsorship is gonna be there for all nationally televised games. Not sure how it would work for a team like the Grizzlies, who have the team name running from end-to-end though.

Edit: oh...this really is a thing now. No doubt about it. MU was on the courts of Milwaukee and the Lakers on Thursday night. I swear, we can't have nice things because ads need to be everywhere, even when it comes to these games on ESPN/ABC and TNT.

NBA on TNT changed the network logo to say TNT Sports for some reason. They've kept variations of this graphics package for way too long at this point and it's starting to annoy me.

Looks like "TNT Sports" is the branding they want to push across the network's sports events. To the point where it now has its own intro much like they used to do when the Turner Sports brand was a thing. They've done the same to the scoreboard for the NHL on TNT as well, which shows how dedicated they are to this.

First point I want to make is that the Turner Sports brand should still be a thing to at least acknowledge the presence of TBS, Bleacher Report, and to a lesser extent truTV as far as sports goes. It won't matter to casual fans at the end of the day and I understand the Turner brand holds no significance to parent company WB Discovery, but that's my two cents.

Secondly, I do have to agree that this current "style" of graphics is starting to grow somewhat stale. 2021 gave us revisions of this style of graphics thanks in part to the NBA's 75th anniversary season and the start of its current contract with the NHL, while the current package for MLB on TBS has mostly stayed the same since 2016 outside of changing up the scoreboard to its current design in 2017 and some revisions ever since. I feel very nostalgic for when the NBA on TNT would give us new packages every two seasons.

Weird that they used the Eagles throwback logo for SNF, but didn't for the Patriots several weeks ago.

AFAIK, this is the first time I've seen any of the four networks use a throwback logo in sync with a team's corresponding uniform set for an NFL game.

I'd surely like to see more of this now that gates have been opened. Not sure how willing designers would be to, for example, implement the Phillies' classic maroon cap logo into to elements of Fox's current MLB graphics package. And I can't remember how often we've seen this with the NBA on TNT or likewise for ESPN, but they at least follow the color schemes very well on scoreboards.

  11. I didn't think it was possible to improve upon the 2012 Wild Card game, but if Game 1 speaks volumes, then Orioles-Rangers does just that now that Texas dropped the extra outlines on their roads and blue alts.

Also, I'm a little surprised, but not too much that the O's went with white instead of orange, making it like Opening Day 2.0 at the ballpark.

Still can’t believe the 108 year curse was broken in these unnecessary duds.

I'm more on the side of this feeling wrong only because the Cubs had to clinch on the road instead of at home. If this series goes down the same way with Game 7 at Wrigley, rest assured they are wearing their classic home white.

Even then, I don't feel that this was as bad as say, the 2016 Cavs in black when clinching their title, for instance.

I do have one recent pick that I wish went differently: 2022 Astros. Personally, it feels weird to see them win the title with what began as a BP jersey and is now a glorified alternate instead of putting on their home white or the orange alternate.

Houston Astros top Philadelphia Phillies 4-1 in Game 6 to win World Series
