I just did the Petco Park tour and went into the pro shop. Authentic jerseys have the swinging friar on one sleeve and Motorola on the other. The replicas only have Motorola. I am irrationally upset about it.

Well...if that's a sign of what's to come, I got a good deal buying my latest O's jersey from the team store on Black Friday. I now have all the current blank replicas, which is perfectly fine with me since the team just might have a sponsor patch by the time that rolls around in November.

New thirds for Manchester United made their debut today against Brentford... I hope these things are burned and never seen again, especially after that embarrassment of a loss. Can hardly make out where the players are on the field.

That loss must have been enough for Ten Hag to virtually abandon the kit. I have not seen those uniforms at all, if not only once or twice since that match vs Brentford. And I highly doubt we'll see them going forward.

Uniform sponsorship coming soon to Yankees jerseys

My second biggest fear coming to fruition. Teams adding ad patches mid-season instead of waiting until the following season to introduce them.

I just hope when Nike introduces its retail jerseys next year, we aren't subject to those ad patches, or at the very least, only with the authentics found in team store facilities similar to the NBA.

The size of the scorebug makes total sense. It's designed with phones in mind. That's a graphic that will still display all of the important stuff when highlights are viewed vertically. I'm a little surprised it took this long for someone to do that, but it looks much better for TikTok, Instagram, and the like.

It's funny to watch the evolution of this stuff from 4:3 to 16:9 to 9:16.

The thing with social media is, there seems to be no standard. For instance, I assumed in 2020 with Fox's now-previous football graphics that they would easily bring them over to MLB, but instead, they got a unique package 2 years ago, but is still 16:9 friendly. As it relates to the likes of Instagram, TikTok, etc., it's hard to tell what works.

Let me take a few examples from this most recent World Series.

This Instagram reel from ESPN's main account is 9:16 and never catches the scorebug, whereas if you're on Twitter. Checking in on other accounts there, like MLB and Fox Sports, they did it very similar, but may have used different ratios in front a background blur. If you go to Twitter, you'll likely get the full 16:9 and might have the benefit of rotating your phone to let it fill the phone screen. Hell, for anyone who cares, that might even work with Facebook too if that's a worthy source of updates via social media. I could look around sports and find other videos where the scoreboard is cropped out and forced into the 9:16 ratio for TikTok and IG, though I've seen that moreso with posts revisiting games and plays of the past.

Long story short, at this point, it's a matter of how the networks balance catering to the sport being covered, social media, and TV as we know it now, it seems. Besides ESPN MNF, Fox College Hoops, and Bally Sports across the board to name a few, graphics seem to be more TV-friendly around sports, including some of the newer and recently revised packages. For how long that remains to be true...we'll find out.

  5. As I mentioned in a post prior to the season, I also fully expect a change in the NFL on Fox logo (and subsequently CFB) once the 2023 season begins, preferably using white as I drew up in two mockups I made below. I much prefer the RWB version as an homage to the 90s logo color scheme, but if they keep the yellow around, I wouldn't be surprised.

MLB, college basketball, and the USFL all have logos on white, so I think there's a great chance that trend will follow the NFL and college football.

At first, I was concerned you posted this to ask about whether or not the O's pick up an ad patch this year....then someone else's post about the sleeves made me realize the main topic.

For a team without an ad patch yet, that's weird. But I guess since the flag roundel is the only team patch on the jerseys (including the road), that makes it easy for each jersey to be ad-ready. Though, I'm predicting/counting on them not getting their ad patch until 2024 so I can enjoy these jerseys being ad-free a little bit longer.

Also, has anyone else pondered what this might mean for the postseason/WS patches? If those are still in tact, some team jerseys will get WAY TOO BUSY in October.

Bengals so far have worn the same exact combo they wore in each round of last year's playoffs.

Makes you wonder who's more likely to force them into black/white between the Eagles or the Niners if they make it to the Super Bowl.

Philly could easily wear green/white and ride the superstition of their SB LII victory whereas SF doesn't have any superstition to worry about since they wore regular home and road jerseys in both their SB losses/most recent appearances.

Can't tell what Pittsburgh and Baltimore are going for here....

My guy says something with a camo design OR the state flag pattern for the O's, though as you said, it's hard to tell from the socks alone. Based off the multi-color pattern on the foot, I might say something city-related, but it's a stretch for me.

  9. A few Week 18 thoughts as Christmas progresses:

    • Falcons-Ravens didn't look bad. As I've said before, I'd have preferred they save black/purple for the next game after 4pm (which we won't have to wait long for now), but I'm assuming they used it just for the mix-n'-match fun or as I had anticipated, the home schedule was not looking good for being flexed into the late Sunday window or into SNF. And thanks to Pittsburgh somehow staying alive in the playoff hunt, Steelers-Ravens in Baltimore gets flexed into Sunday night. More on that later.
    • Raiders-Steelers....I don't need to say much. It looks nostalgic.
    • Would've preferred retro aqua vs the Packers, but what we got is still good.
    • Didn't think the Eagles would sport their black helmets away from the friendly confines of Philly, but they did. I was surprised that they opted for black uniforms in Dallas to begin with. I would've stuck to the midnight green and white.
    • Giants-Vikings annoyed me. Not because of the white-out gimmick, but because it was against the Giants in blue, a closely related primary color to the Vikings purple. I'd much rather they do this against a team like the Jags (teal or black) or the Bears (navy or orange). I don't fuss about opponent colors clashing often, but this was a rare case.

So I wonder what uniform the Ravens go with for SNF vs Pittsburgh next week? Before the flex, I expected non-CR purple/purple or purple/white/ since they won't hit on all the combinations this year.  And black/purple would've been my easy choice for SNF had they not worn it vs ATL. Honestly, I could still them going all-purple to not repeat wearing black like they did vs PIT last year or just to fulfill a "purple-out" vs their rival team.

And then both sleeves for switch hitters, or they got to change jerseys every time they decide to change what side of the plate to stand on.

I'm of the argument that they won't change sides of the patch based on the player's preference of how they hit/pitch. From a TV or photography perspective, there's enough angles to capture and focus on a player during a ballgame that you will see the patch regardless. Fans attending the game and sitting in their seats are obviously a different story, but not a big deal, I'd imagine.

Personally, I wanna know how long would it take before, god forbid, all 30 teams would have a patch. I think of the NBA, who I think got every team on board by the midway point of the 2018-19 season if I recall (OKC and/or Dallas were the last ones to get a patch).

Zaslav hinting on ending NBA on TNT from the look of things

Losing the NBA on TNT in the Warner Bros.-Discovery financial limbo would have to be the greatest tragedy in this mess.

There's gotta be a way to avoid that.

I really hope the Ravens don’t wear black against the Panthers again, but it may happen.

I wouldn't be bothered with seeing the black jersey again, but I do agree with you that they should wear it another week if possible. If I had to throw out a prediction, I'd say purple/white against the Panthers, non-CR purple vs the Broncos, black/white against the Falcons and black/purple vs the Steelers (hopefully the game is rescheduled to 4:25pm, otherwise that combo might look a bit jarring in daylight). The lack of an appealing home game worth flexing to SNF from here on out is really hurting the uniform schedule, I would imagine.

Also, remember when I predicted their uniform schedule after the schedule came out and I goofed by predicting the Broncos could wear white/navy vs the Ravens, only for someone to respond how the mismatching "tails" would be problematic? I'd like to beg the person in the organization who read that original post (before I gave it the edit of shame) that he or she shouldn't have taken me THAT seriously!

Bills have loved the blue pants only with the blue jersey lately. Haven’t work white over blue since Week 9 last season.

Ravens seem to flip a coin with the road pant colors. Game is on turf, so could go either way after they wore black pants last road game.

I forgot the Rams in my list. That one is also a toss up. I say the bone pants remain an option.

With the Ravens getting in as many uniform combos as possible the last few years, you can hardly predict what to expect. But then again, that's the fun of it all when we come up to this thread. I agree with you and believe they will go white/purple. My gut has me thinking they save the white pants for the TNF game at Tampa Bay in 2 weeks assuming the Bucs go with a uniform using the red or pewter jersey.

Philadelphia (a green and white team) playing Arizona (a red and white team)

    Most prominently featured color: black

Could have been worse...I was dreading the Cardinals wearing all-black from head to toe instead of black/white. It was a tolerable matchup. Not that I like the Eagles wearing white/black, but there's much worse matchups out there.

Even if I could change ONE team's combination, I'd be happy with the Eagles wearing green pants with the white jersey.
