The Padres' uniforms have grown on me. My first reaction to them was "boring blue and white", but they're actually pretty clean and distinct. Pinstripes might have been nice, but I like the way the white pops on these too.

OMG I'm not the only one!

Yea, I'd rather them not be just navy and white but if they ARE gonna be just navy and white then well, at least they don't look THAT bad. Some consistency would be nice too. Say they wear this uniform set for the next 20 years? People might actually start thinking they're pretty decent looking. And yes I agree on them looking "clean." A few teams have pulled off a decent blue and white look so it's not impossible for the Padres to eventually do the same.

Doc Gooden, in his lone season (2000) in which he pitched for the Rays and Astros before collecting his second World Series ring with the Yankees, his third total. (He did not, however, play in the World Series against the Mets.)

These pics made me curious as to why the Rays dropped their inaugural uniforms so relatively quickly. They only spent 3 seasons in them. Considering how long the process of making a complete uniform overhaul takes, it's safe to assume they decided on dropping their inaugural set within 2 years of wearing them, if not less. I have to believe it's rare for any team to revamp their look so soon after their inception. Even if the uniform is ugly usually a new team sticks to their initial look for a while. Anyone have any insight as to how this happened?

Aaron Boone on the Marlins in 2007. I'm a Marlins fan and enjoyed his time here but man was it brief. He didn't even make it halfway through the season before suffering a season ending injury. Appeared in 69 games total.

Edit: After posting this I wondered where Boone went after 07 and it turns out in 2008 he was with the Nationals and in 2009 he played about a month with the Astros...

The Cubs example is kind of funny though since that town has 2 baseball teams.

This made me wonder, I wonder how many fans there are of both the Cubs and White Sox and if any are truly die hard fans of both. I know being a die hard fan pretty much excludes having a 2nd die hard team but there are plenty of fans that can and do root for two teams of the same sport in different cities... such as a transplanted fan who picks up a genuine fandom in their new local team while still maintaining their fandom for their original team... so I figure there has to be "someone" who roots for both the Cubs and White Sox right? Or is that not a thing? Curious if anyone can chime in on this.

Kevin Youkilis and Johnny Damon also, but I'm sure they've already been covered here.  And yes, I would say Damon's "right" uniform is still Boston's.

While Johnny Damon definitely has a handful of wrong uniforms my favorite one is when he played for Thailand in the World Baseball Classic qualifying round in 2012 (his mother is from Thailand I believe). While the WBC is almost always a short lived uniform for any player, this one is tops because it was Thailand's first and only WBC appearance... they weren't in the first two tournaments at all, then failed to qualify in 2012, and weren't invited back in 2017 (Pakistan took their spot). So, with only 3 games played ever, they're the ultimate rare WBC team and with them actually having a big time baseball star on them this one always sticks out to me...

The boundary between being "dated" and being identified with a time is a funky, and almost certainly very subjective thing.

Good line. And you bring up a good point with the Blue Jays because I love their look but never really think about how the wordmark and numbers are absolutely a 70s font yet no one complains about it.

I like it too. It feels right for Miami.

My struggle is just that the Marlins ARE 90s teal in my brain.

I love the old Marlins look but it's no longer the 90s and they now actually play in Miami so I'd say they WERE 90s teal but no longer are. The current look fits them for right now and for the ballpark and the name change. If they were a brand new team and not connected to the Florida Marlins their look would be more liked.

the only thing I would change with the current set would be changing the name back to the "Anaheim Angels" and changing the road jersey to saying Anaheimimage.jpeg

Woah I didn't even know these existed! They're nice! It's a great look right there. As for the red jerseys I can't get over the red letters on the red jerseys. That kills it for me. They'd be way nicer in white or even in silver.

  9. I think the Cincinnati Reds can keep black for cleats and accessories/equipment like batting gloves, wrist tape, arm bands, shin guards, and elbow guards etc but the uniforms need to lose the drop shadows. I can live with the black brim on the road caps and with the subtle black drop shadow on the wishbone C but the drop shadows on the names, numbers, and road wordmark need to go because they're outdated and silly looking on what's an otherwise traditional looking uniform. The Reds can use black if it's clearly their third color like how the Rays use yellow and how like the Blue Jays and Dodgers use red.

Yes. I don't think he started going by Giancarlo until 2013 or 2014 IIRC.

2012 season was his first as Giancarlo. He had always gone by Mike, his middle name, because his parents had called him Mike as a kid and in school teachers couldn't pronounce Giancarlo so he just went by Mike even into the major leagues. When the Marlins rebranded and changed virtually everything about the team going into their new ballpark, Stanton took that as his opportunity to speak up and ask to be called Giancarlo, his first name.

    Just a little joke.

When Dave Magadan was traded from the Marlins to the Mariners, this somehow caused me to conflate these two teams that had names and colours that were pretty close.  For years I often said "Mariners" when I meant Marlins and "Marlins" when I meant Mariners. Eventually I got over it -- or so I thought!

    Blast you, Dave Magadan!

I didn't even know Mags was with the Mariners. There's my newest wrong uniform I guess lol.
