It's been around for a few years. It's partially based on resentment because of the generational wealth gap and partially based on millennials and zoomers wanting to make fun of old people for not being hip.

It's funny being called a boomer for an E-40 reference because E-40 is older than me. I only know who E-40 is because I have friends my age who grew up in Northern California who were shocked I hadn't heard of him.

E-40 didn't even make it to worldwide knowledge until like 2006 when "Tell Me When To Go" came out. He was already popular here in California before that but man, that song really did alot to keep his career going and let people know. You're in the clear on this as far as I'm concerned.

  2. It seems like the NFL modified the amount of times you can wear an alternate since there's 18 weeks as opposed to 17 weeks now.

The uniforms will make their on-field debut in the 49ers’ home opener against Green Bay on Sept. 26. They’ll also be worn against the Indianapolis Colts on Oct. 24, Los Angeles Rams on Nov. 15 and Atlanta Falcons on Dec. 19, while the road version will make an appearance against the Seattle Seahawks on Dec. 5 and the Tennessee Titans on Dec. 23.

49ers will wear the red jersey 4 times and the white one 2 times. I'm a bit concerned by how much they get to do this, but I want to feel like they got leeway because they are the 49ers and this is how the uniform was in 1994 but that's just wishful thinking.

  3. The Dallas Cowboys didn't wear their usual white look in the 1995 Preseason, instead they wore the Double Star alternate for some reason. Not only are the uniform matchups rare, but the uniform itself is too, they had solid blue socks and no 75th anniversary patch. They wore the standard blue jersey against the Bills in Toronto and the Oilers in San Antonio.

I will never understand how the Jaguars managed to fix their stupid uniforms then made it worse again a few years later with the socks situation. These guys just have no clue.

What's the Raiders "black"?  I don't recall them ever having a black helmet in their past.

The first ever Raiders uniform had a plain black helmet from 1960 to 1962. In 1962 they added a yellow stripe. I doubt the Raiders ever throw back to this look unless the fanbase really pushes for it and from everything I've seen, nobody is down for black and yellow. The 1970 throwback is here to stay.

  6. As long as the NFL keeps the rule of being able to wear alternates 3 times a season then I am completely fine with this.  Everyone should just chill out, we got 18 weeks in the NFL season now and a large majority of it will still be in the primary uniforms for each team.

I feel like the players pick which uniforms to wear in the playoffs too. The Cavs wanted to wear those awful black t-shirts in The Finals. The NBA and Adidas had nothing to do with it.

If that's what the Nets decided to wear, good for them..

The Cavs actually had to ask the league if they could wear it, this was pre-Nike so the NBA was very pushy about non regular alternates being used in the playoffs and especially the Finals. Only two teams have done weird alts in the Finals before Nike came in, the Nets with the ABA look in 2003 and the Cavs sleeved in 2016.

To be fair, my degree says “The Ohio State University.” Whether or not the extra emphasis is needed is up for debate, though.

I feel like that extra emphasis was made up by people that hate the team and mostly Michigan fans.

It doesn't help that their City uniform, for as much as I kind of enjoyed it, looks almost exactly like a stock car/NASCAR scheme.

That was my exact thought too. Nothing about it evokes Oklahoma to me as it was suppose to, instead it looks like it's a tribute to stock car racing, which is something you would think the Pacers would do.

However, I will say this ... OKC’s Love’s patch fills me with rage every time I see it.

Watching the Thunder doesn't make you want to get a crappy hot dog from a convenience store?

I will say, the gold jersey numbers on the purple jerseys are a definite upgrade

This is another thing I don't like about the Lakers Statement jersey. The yellow numbers on purple absolutely sucks and it's because the contrast with a yellow number and white drop shadow is messed up, that font is not made for it at all, that drop shadow is so minimal that it makes that specific color combo look bad. Another issue is that the shade of yellow is ass and it doesn't help.

Even the Showtime Era numbers look bad when it's yellow. You just can't do these colors with a drop shadow.

The yellow wordmark and white number was a better color balance overall.

Aren't statements allowed to change every two years? If so, how the Lakers have kept those awful black panels this long and what looks like at least one more year is baffling.

I don't understand it either. Out of all the teams I expect to screw up new uniforms, the Lakers weren't on that list and yet they went and did it. I don't hate the look, I hate the fact it's the only purple jersey the team has. It would be an okay alternate jersey or something but it can't be this. I would understand if it was the year 2001 and they did it, but they did this in 2018. All the teams in sports that have unnecessarily added black have  gotten rid of it by now (except the Reds for some reason) but the Lakers did the exact opposite, it doesn't make any sense.

This would also explain the old Bengals uniform on display. I wouldn't be surprised to know the NFL had all these displays already prepped before the pandemic hit last year, then just rolled them out as-is this year. The Bengals is the only significant change in that time, and we've already documented the issues the Patriots had in having some players wearing the old number style on new jerseys last year.

The issue with this theory though is that the Browns mannequin had orange pants. Those pants supposedly didn’t even exist in April 2020.

I think whoever set up those mannequins had no idea what they were doing.

I can see their attempt to combine past fonts into a new one but it doesn't work for me.

Hey they actually get a diamond to go on throwbacks again like in 1994. It’s like a throwback of a throwback that’s a fauxback! Aaaaaaaaaahhhh!!!!!!!!

Judging by the MLB's new program, eliminating the one-helmet rule would inevitably bring city jerseys into the NFL. I just wish the NFL could limit alternate helmets to team colors.

It's funny you seem to think the one helmet rule is all that's stopping it.

I'm probably in the minority for this but I think the Raiders should've added black pants as an alternate for their arrival in Vegas as well. They need to do something to differentiate their identity from Oakland to Las Vegas. Black facemasks with an all black alternate and white/black alternate that are both worn 2x a year would be perfect.

An all black uniform is something I've wanted for quite awhile, but other than that and maybe silver numbers on the road, they don't need to mess around with anything else.
