My favorite uniform matchups of week 0 and of course 1 fail.

I actually like the "V" on the helmet. I think I'd prefer in it black w/gold outline on the white helmet. But it isn't terrible. They *do* have a star logo with the new "V" that was on their branding so they could always slap that on there. Otherwise it's a solid upgrade from what they last had.

Another adidas release. This time for UW.

These aren't my favorite but at least it's only purple and gold school colors.  Just a recolor of their normal road jersey.

How is it that the shiny gold on here looks good, but the one that Georgia Tech used is completely awful?

The Rams have four basic colors: yellow, blue, white, bone.

The Chargers have five basic colors: yellow, white, light blue, medium blue and dark blue (and I'm not sure if the yellow changes).

The Rams will always be blue, white and yellow; sometimes bone (which is being phased out).

The Chargers will always be white, yellow, and one of three shades of blue, but none of those blues at the same time.

Ipso facto, the Rams are simpler.

The Chargers navy and Royal sets they can’t wear all the time though. Even last year the navy and Royal were only worn once a piece. So it’s not like they just come out wearing the navy jersey with white or yellow pants one day and then Royal the next. You can expect them to wear powder blue 90% of the season.

Update: the final count for teams wearing all-black, that is, a black jersey, black pants, and black socks, is 125-131-1.

The first-ever all-black was New Orleans vs. Carolina on October 14th, 2001. New Orleans, wearing all-black, won 27-25. All-black has been worn in 7 playoff games, with an all-time record of 5-2 (both losses coming from Cincinnati, actually). The one tie was Philadelphia vs. Cincinnati, with the Bengals in all-black, on November 16th, 2008, with a final score of 13-13.

The final record is really held up by the Saints, who started wearing all-black around the time they got really good. From October 29th 2017 to November 22nd 2018, they won 9 straight games in all-black. The Eagles are currently on a 7-game winning streak, stretching back to November 25th, 2018, when they beat the Giants.

Out of a total of 257 all-black games, the Saints have worn it the most, at 78, followed by the Jaguars at 47, then the Bengals at 41. The team that gets all-black worn against them most often is the Panthers, who have faced all-black 17 times (helped by being in a division with the Saints and Falcons). The Falcons are next at 16, and then the Giants at 15.

So, I can say, at least for now, that teams wearing all-black do not have that dog in 'em.

Thank you for your service. 🫡

1st thought: is there historical precedent to the Bears wearing an orange helmet? I haven’t looked at the GUD so I don’t know off hand.

2nd: I want to throw up with how bad this looks.

  6. My perspective of this is mixed. I grew up watching football from the NCAA when Oregon had a different helmet every week. So I’m a little numb on it because I’ve been exposed to it.

Now most of these are uneccessary. Like the Jets and Eagles don’t need a black helmet, some I don’t mind (throwbacks, or the Saints or Texans) but I think there will be enough teams that will keep their traditionalism in check enough to appease the fans who are like that.

But at the end of the day, these are also used for merchandising and to generate more money at the end of the day.

More I looking at photos the more I don't understand. Giants helmet is a new one or current one with different decals?

The giants now have 2 helmets. One is Royal blue and will be used with their normal home + away sets.  They now also have a darker navy helmet to use with throwbacks since it is period appropriate.

I think the cycle has extended a few months due to the men's World Cup being late. In a normal year the World Cup and its new jerseys would be happening by now. Given that the dazzle-camo jerseys were halfway-cycle releases I didn't mind them still being worn now. (Remember the navy bleach-spill shirts? Seems like those were a waste of time.)

Hey now, I like my navy bleach-spill sweater! I think those were underrated

Cazoo must be sponsoring half of Europe

It maybe my narrow view for soccer, but it does make me wonder how much some of the companies make to sponsor *this* many teams across several countries. Like how much are the deal worth per year in accordance to the revenue that Cazoo makes? I would assume it is a low cost deal (3 yrs/$4 million) or something like that because of the sheer volume that have the sponsor power to do so.

I love when Notre Dame wears green. I've probably embraced the kelly green more than most, as I've worn almost exclusively green ND gear since at least 2004. I'd have the football team wear green 3 times a season if I had my way. But not in those current jerseys. The blue numbers on green are illegible garbage. People (and announcers) have been saying so since they first debuted, yet UA and ND have refused to go back to what worked. I really want to be excited about green jerseys coming back, but those blue numbers really put a damper on it.

I’ll say I don’t mind the blue numbers on green jerseys. Yeah they are an eyesore but with the outline it helps and is better than what Houston (Black with red numbers) has. White would be significantly superior, but until Under Armour either releases a new green jersey, or Nike/Adidas or another outfitter sign them, I don’t think we’ll see green with white numbers soon.
