  1. Wow. Link worked yesterday (when it was tweeted out) and again when I went to find it this morning. Guess I should start pasting the whole thing. With Coyotes owners news, it's here today, gone tomorrow.

EDIT: It was still available on the tablet version, but just in case:

Courtesy Sporting News, Feb. 8, 2013

Former Arizona Attorney General and well-known Phoenix trial attorney Grant Woods is the latest name to pop up in the Phoenix Coyotes ownership drama.

Woods is working with some new and perhaps recycled bidders for the financially challenged and NHL-owned franchise

, according to officials familiar with the Coyotes machinations.

An ownership group called Ice Edge Holdings previously tried to buy the Coyotes and was most recently involved in Greg Jamison's unsuccessful bid to buy team.

Ice Edge could now again be back in the Coyotes three-year ownership soap opera and murky future in Glendale.

Canadian oil executive and Portland Winterhawks minor league hockey team owner Bill Gallacher could also be in the mix to buy the team, according to Fox Sports Arizona.

Gallacher and Ice Edge could also work together on bid. Gallacher has pursued other NHL teams. He could keep the Coyotes in Phoenix or try to move them to Portland.

Woods served as state attorney general in the 1990s and has been a political maverick among state Republicans. He's also involved with a number of charitable causes in the Valley including the Children's Museum of Phoenix.

Woods did not respond to a request for comment on details of his involvement with Coyotes bidders.

Jamison missed a Jan. 31 deadline buy the team and benefit from a $308 million arena deal from the city of Glendale. That increases the odds of the Coyotes being sold and relocated to another market like Quebec City or Seattle. The former San Jose Sharks CEO could still trying to buy the Coyotes or be part of another group that buys the team.

Woods is not the only Arizona political and legal power broker in the Coyotes mix. Phoenix attorney and lobbyist John Kaites has been part on-and-off Coyotes pursuits with Chicago White Sox and Bulls owner Jerry Reinsdorf. Kaites declined comment on the current Coyotes situation.

The NHL bought the team out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2009 for $140 million. The league wants between $170 million and $175 million from a Phoenix buyer.

Yeah, I'm gonna leave this here since Ice Edge is involved....

  2. STFU

Your team's gameplan is largely predicated on unpenalized obstruction and a goaltender who dives like Greg Louganis; you have no right whatsoever to bitch about the refs. "A doormat in the league" doesn't finish 4th, 6th, and 3rd under league ownership. And the idea that "no one stands up for you" is silly considering that if the league didn't "stand up for them" in the first place, they'd have moved to Quebec this summer, Winnipeg last summer, or Hamilton THREE FREAKING YEARS AGO. Just retire already, Whitney, you worthless compiler.

    POTD?

    Get's my approval for POTD

  3. Whitney speaks about the ownership issue

    http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2012/05/25/ray_whitney_coyotes_need_stable_ownership/?utm_source=Hockey%20lineup%20RSS-Images&utm_medium=feed&utm_content=Whitney%3A%20Coyotes%20a%20%22doormat%20in%20the%20league%22

Whitney believes the Coyotes were at a competitive disadvantage in the Stanley Cup playoffs in comparison to other teams because the club does not have an ownership group to defend them.

"I don't want to go through another year and be a doormat in the league where you don't have ownership and people to stand up for you," Whitney told Sarah McLellan of Azcentral.com.

The Coyotes were frustrated with the officiating in their series loss to the Los Angeles Kings and the Western Conference final.

"It's tough for our management. It's tough for our coaching staff, and eventually it runs down. It's tough for players," Whitney said. "I didn't feel like we had the same competitive edge as everyone else.

"Who are we going to complain to? Our owner gave the trophy out to the other team."

Never heard from the player's perspective but who could blame him?

"We said, 'Hey, do this in a couple of days when you've had a chance to finish these exhibits and get everything public and give taxpayers the chance to look at the documents and weigh in,'" said Rhoades. "And that is all we're asking for: that people have the chance to be heard. They rushed this thing to a vote without being ready."

Rhoades said the deal was rushed by the NHL and rumors that Jamison's investors are faltering.

  5. Goldwater is going in guns blazing, get the popcorn

    Some snippets...

We understand the Council is considering adopting the deal as an "emergency" measure, which would deprive Glendale citizens of their right to refer the matter to a vote. As you know, the circumstances justifying an emergency declaration are limited. Given that the City apparently has been negotiating this proposal for quite some time, and the dire financial condition the City is in, denying citizens their right of referral seems inappropriate.

  6. Butler decided to skip on waiting

    http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/7984779/butler-bulldogs-move-atlantic-10-now-set-season

Butler will join the Atlantic 10 next season instead of waiting until 2013-14, the school announced Tuesday.

"We are grateful to the Atlantic 10 for welcoming us into the fold a year ahead of schedule," Bulldogs athletic director Barry Collier said in a statement. "Ultimately it was in our best interest to reach an agreement with the Horizon League for immediate departure."

"The unexpected circumstances that precipitated Butler's request to move immediately were unfortunate," A-10 commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade said in a statement, "but we will welcome Butler into the A-10 as a valuable new member."

President and CEO of Quebecor would not comment on what happens in Phoenix, or discussions with the NHL. "We should wait for the NHL to comment, it's not for me to do obviously. I know you want more information, but we will stick to this line, "he said.

Peladeau participated on Wednesday in connection with SportAccord, in a panel on new technologies and the future of sports replay parts. He was with John Collins, COO and number two in the NHL.

  8. GWI is going to war...

Byron Schlomach, chief economist at the institute, said the proposed management fee to the team is too high, because comparable facilities garner around $10 million. That could be reason for the group to sue, he said.

?They seem like a gambler with their last buck,? Schlomach said in a telephone interview.

?There?s no way they are going to spend it on a meal, they are going to try to get back in the game.?

  9. As a long time ACC fan, I hate this news. Money rules the world I suppose.

I know what you mean. Although, I don't know about VA Tech going to the SEC, I remember years ago how they were trying hard to get in the ACC but like I said that was years ago. I would like to see the ACC stay afloat but it just seems like once you turn around, another school is going.

Sadly, I think FSU is first domino of the ACC :(

"At a May 8 council meeting, Scruggs said no one should feel too hopeful just yet, because she has yet to see anything in writing."

?All this talk the $25 million has dropped to $20 million, that has dropped to $17 million; I?ve never seen anything in writing,? Scruggs said. ?Maybe some of my colleagues have. There is no deal in writing. We?ll see what comes along, maybe it will be something that I can support, but at this point, I can?t support something I haven?t seen.?

What do you guys think, is this finally the end?
