  1. With Georgia State heading to the Sun Belt, who does the CAA target?

From what I read on CollegSportsInfo, the CAA may look at Appalanchian State as a possible expansion member. Others include Stony Brook, Charlotte and someone else... I would need to look at it again.

Looks like the article says it would be Boston U. It also mentioned Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston, Georgia Southern, UNH & Maine for full membership as well, but only if VCU, GMU left

  2. So let me get this straight....

Jamison wants to put in 100 Million & hopes Glendale puts in 40.... Right when they said they couldn't afford even 25 million?

In my opinion this is a ship sinking with a only a few life boats available. Stop with the charade already, here's hoping Chicago gets rid of them quickly so we can put an end to this mess.

  3. http://www.azcentral.com/community/glendale/articles/2012/04/09/20120409coyotes-deal-could-come-within-month.html

Glendale City Manager Ed Beasley told The Republic there's reason for hope off the ice, too. Residents and fans may soon get the resolution they have long sought, he said.

His confidence on Tuesday comes as the search for a permanent owner has become increasingly tense. Glendale faces as much as a $30 million budget shortfall. The city's dire finances are in part because of its commitment to pay $25 million to the NHL to cover team and arena losses the past two years.

Looks like Smoke & Mirrors boys & girls

  4. http://www.thestar.com/sports/hockey/nhl/article/1157478--cox-phoenix-coyotes-bankrupting-glendale

"If the NHL has a heart, this must now end.

Forget whose fault it is. By keeping the Coyotes in Glendale the league is damaging the city and its taxpayers, who have been pouring money down a sink to keep the one tenant they have in a city-built arena. That massive problem is not going away whether the ?Yotes stay or go. But the evidence is that the costs of keeping the hockey club are greater than the costs of letting it go."

I can see how most people in Glendale feel, sure some want the yotes to stay, but its killing the city, I think its time in this case to finally let go.

  5. Things are going to get ugly...

"Last year, they asked us to extend 25 million qu'is then said to be close to an agreement with Matthew Hulzinger. A year later, they ask us the same amount and there is no shadow of a buyer, "said the mayor, visibly exasperated.

    No Balkan eh?

  6. http://www.azcentral.com/members/Blog/westsideinsider/158447

Coyotes President Mike Nealy said he’s still confident the team will stay in Glendale.

“(The NHL) still wants it here,” he said. “They believe these groups can get it done.”

Nealy said that more than three groups are working to buy the team and keep it in Glendale, although he would not elaborate on their identities.

Former San Jose Sharks chief executive Greg Jamison’s group has been working to pull together funds to buy the team. A spokesman for a second group led by ex-Arizona lawmaker John Kaites and Chicago sports magnate Jerry Reinsdorf recently said they remain interested.

The identities of the other groups are unknown.

As if Atlanta didn't learn from this. Let this be considered the first warning light.

  7. http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Steven-Hindle/The-Road-from-Phoenix-to-Quebec-City/139/43411

Exciting as that may be, my source still believes Quebec City isn't alone in trying to land an NHL team as Seattle, above Las Vegas and Kansas City, appear set to follow in QC's footsteps.

"I still don?t believe they are on par with Quebec, but we are not alone as much as I told you we were."

Admitting that healthy competition for a franchise isn't a bad thing for the potential group in Quebec City, it still comes down to the NHL's ability to save the Coyotes.

"The Coyotes will move this year ONLY IF they CAN'T be saved and there is no option."

Clearly the biggest obstacle to overcome for the NHL will be in admitting their trial in Phoenix has come to an end. Yet, above all else, that seems to be the direction this is headed in.

"If that happens, it (Phoenix) will be moved to Quebec because even though Seattle is proving a point that they can in fact have an NHL team, they are not as advanced as we are right now so we have the lead for sure."

  8. Patrick Roy is for a Nordiques return, I wonder if her could be in the running for a head coach position...

    http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Ftvasports.ca%2Ftvasports%2Fhockey%2Farchives%2F2012%2F03%2F20120326-193929.html&act=url

"I understand that the first priority of the people of the League is to first keep the market as it is currently. By cons, as and as failures accumulate in some areas, the relocation may be a possibility, "said Roy in an interview with Sports VAT.

On the Remparts, they have already signed a lease until the 2014-2015 season to play their home games at the Pepsi Coliseum today. When asked if his team will play in the new arena, the former star goalie at first thought, however, dream of a new professional team to settle in Quebec.

"Honestly, we all want an NHL team plays there. Even if it will hurt us, we appreciate what the supporters have given us all these years. We tried to please people and want to give the young people to play hockey, "said he.

  9. What has been told as of the HFboards...

-18,000 seat arena next door to the Colisee

-Deal was finalized as of Friday 10 PM

    -Shovels in ground this September

-The name would be: Centre Quebecor, have a 25 year lease agreement

-Quebecor will pay extra 40M$ for a complete TV studio integrated in the arena

-Opening September, 2015 & it has to be done by then someone said... hmm, I wonder why???

  10. I grant that Toronto and Montreal are not US cities, but they are not cities seeking expansion/relocation teams either. They have been in the league since its creation. They aren't going anywhere any time soon. (sadly) I'm just saying that since all that the BOG cares about is expanding revenue, and US TV revenues would be a good way to do so, that expanding into Canada would not be something they would see as favourable to that plan.

And yet, a year ago, they let a team from the 8th largest media market in the US leave for a small prairie city in Canada. A move that proved to be very profitable. Not only does it prove that the NHL doesn't need to try to fit round pegs into square holes in southern American markets to increase revenue, but it also proves that regardless of what the NHL wants they're still bound by the realities of the situation. Trading Atlanta for Winnipeg may not have been something the NHL wanted to do, but it's what they did because they didn't have a choice. Given that the move back to Winnipeg worked out, I'm sure the NHL will be less resistant to returning to Quebec City once it becomes clear that it's the only viable option for the Coyotes.

Maybe the Coyotes will go to Seattle. They, like Quebec City, have plans for a new arena in the near future.

Only one problem, Seattle doesn't have a solid owner at this time, sure there's the rumblings of Don Levin but that's all, Quebec has someone ready to go in Pierre Karl Peladeau & the Colisee can host the team while the new arena is built. The Colisee is already scheduled for renovations. The Key Arena isn't a place to play hockey these days & in all honesty, I think Seattle will get a shot, just not now, I think they're too focused on getting the Sonics back first. Either way, I think this is finally the Yotes swan song.

  11. Adding more fuel to the fire... This was in Glendale's city council meeting on Tuesday via the HFBoards.

"Glendale apparently faces a $30 million budget deficit this coming fiscal year, but obviously don't want to cut services. Councilor Alvarez mentioned the Coyotes...

    Quote:

Alvarez said she hears that the city doesn't have the money yet it is allocating $20 million in next fiscal year's budget for Jobing.com Arena, home to the Phoenix Coyotes.

"I know somebody is going to come back with the defense we need to have the Coyotes, we need to pay for the arena," she said. "But then we forget the community, the people who pay taxes, the kids who don't have the pools, the kids that don't have recreation. What we are doing is hurting our kids."

Given the looming deficit, and the credit downgrade by Moody's, I just don't see how they can pull off another year with a $25 million subsidy."

    Sell the team already....

  12. When the mayor can't even be bothered to put the customary "mystery buyer" spin on this, they're in real trouble.

C'mon, Gary. Do the right thing. You've held on long enough that you can't be blamed anymore in Arizona, and you'll be a hero in Quebec.

This is how I see it, with a lockout looming, he needs to get something done, he needs to cut his losses & just put them in Quebec, they have a buyer ready, a new arena in the next few years & fans willing to pay good money to go watch along with a strong history in Quebec City, c'mon Gary it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see what needs to be done.

Even the Mayor of QC thinks its not if but when... Found of HF Boards

The questions came up about Quebec and the NHL and he said, roughly-- ''The renovations to the Colisee are all pretty much set, we have drawings almost all made up and an open offer will be in motion come April''

then he said ''Everything is calculated, on time, on target, on budget..I hope''

Another question. Could you tell us what you've heard?

''I'd rather not answer that, you'll understand that my relationship with the NHL is good at the moment and i'd like to keep it that way'' shrugs shoulders.. ''and up till now we're still hoping''

  13. Sounds like even the mayor has given up...

    http://www.facebook.com/LisaHalverstadt

Glendale Mayor Elaine Scruggs gave her State of the City address today.

Here's what she had to say about the status of negotiations with potential Phoenix Coyotes buyers:

"Now, this would be a perfect time to provide you with an update on the Phoenix Coyotes, but I won’t be doing that because I don’t know anything other than what has already been reported by the media. But, we continue to hope the National Hockey League will find a new owner that will bring stability to this franchise."

Either that or another "2 weeks"

  14. Another proposal by Seattle.

    http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2017083844_arena24m.html

A wealthy San Francisco hedge-fund manager is the lead investor seeking to build a sports arena south of Safeco Field to lure an NBA basketball team back to Seattle, according to two sources briefed on the effort.

Christopher Hansen, 43, who has roots in Seattle and now heads Valiant Capital Management LLC, in San Francisco, is working with an investor group whose proposal has yet to be publicly unveiled.

Hansen, described by one source as a multimillionaire, could not be reached for comment Friday. He previously lived in Seattle's Leschi neighborhood, public records show.

Hansen is working with a Bellevue man who would like to bring an NHL professional hockey team to Seattle to play in the arena, according to the source, who did not know the name of the Eastside participant.

    The hockey factor

If built, the arena would add a third professional sports facility in the Sodo area, joining Safeco, home of the Seattle Mariners, and CenturyLink Field, home of the Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Sounders FC.

Many think a new arena would have to offer both professional basketball and hockey to be a viable business proposition.
