  1. Mason is staying in the CAA, VCU has yet to decide.

    http://www2.timesdispatch.com/sports/sport/2012/may/12/tdsport01-mason-stays-in-the-caa-no-decision-from--ar-1909401/

In all honesty, I think VCU should stay in the CAA, but I wouldn't be shocked if they go to the A-10

Liberty University also is looking to joining Division I

  2. As much as I have been on the move them already bandwagon, I'm just hopeful that this God for saking mess will be over & done with, if Jamison can turn the Yotes to a profit, hey more power to him, I wish him nothing but the best of luck on it. Although, I wonder with the new owners, I wonder if they'll go to change their name to Arizona instead of Phoenix like the rumors that have passed?

I do think Quebec will be back in the NHL, it just may be a little longer, hopefully not through relocation, but heck, the league has more to worry about this time *cough* Lockout *cough*

  3. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/hockey/moyes-assails-nhl-over-coyotes-operations/article2423845/?utm_medium=Feeds:%20RSS/Atom&utm_source=Hockey&utm_content=2423845&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

The former owner of the Phoenix Coyotes has lashed out at the NHL in court for trying to make him cover all the losses the league has incurred since buying the club out of bankruptcy nearly three years ago.

Arizona businessman Jerry Moyes is demanding that the NHL explain why it didn?t move the Coyotes to Winnipeg, Quebec City or Seattle instead of keeping the team in Phoenix and piling up losses.

    Somebody cue the music...

  4. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=394988

While the Phoenix Coyotes continue their battle on the ice, the team's fight off the ice appears to be on a winning course.

ESPN.com and TSN Hockey Analyst Pierre LeBrun is reporting that the Coyotes could be nearing a sale, which would keep the team in Phoenix.

"Things are moving pretty quickly and a lot of work is being done," club president and COO Mike Nealy said in an interview Thursday with ESPN.com and QMI Agency of Canada. "I wouldn't be shocked if we saw something next week. I wouldn't be panicked if it didn't happen, but I'm looking for the near term."

Looks like Quebec is denied again... At least, hopefully this comes to an end.

  5. Well, part of this came out of nowhere...

Florida International, Louisiana Tech, North Texas, Texas San Antonio, Charlotte and Old Dominion will join C-USA giving the league 14 members. However, it's not clear how soon after 2013 Charlotte, which is beginning its football program in 2013, and ODU, currently in the FCS, would be able to compete as a C-USA football member.

I wonder if this means the CAA death watch is coming... Sucks to see ODU leaving but with the rumors going around with VCU & Mason, I'd figured ODU would be next.

While the MWC/C-USA merger is no more, Charlotte is not shocking at all since ECU Chancellor Steve Ballard mentioned them by name on April 12 during his State of the University address when he talked about athletic conferences at the beginning of his speech.

So here is where we stand in terms of a new conference.

First, if this merger is successful, it could be stronger than the old CUSA and it will probably be more stable.

Second, members of the new conference recognize the importance of regional rivalries; they are committed to adding more teams with the goal of ensuring 4 divisions of geographical proximity. We look forward to playing long-time rivals such as Marshall and Southern Miss and to adding several eastern universities to our schedule. Hopefully, one will be Charlotte. This is a good trend and certainly one that allows us to concentrate on the academic success and graduation of our student athletes.

Well, I meant I was more shocked with ODU, I had a feeling UNC Charlotte would try to get back into the C-USA since day one.

  7. Well, Texas State won't stay in the WAC for long.

    http://blog.mysanantonio.com/the-local-scene/2012/04/sun-belt-expected-to-add-texas-state-ut-arlington/

The Sun Belt Conference is expected to add Texas State University and UT Arlington for the 2013-14 season, sources said Monday.

Both are expected to play one season in the Western Athletic Conference before joining the Sun Belt next summer.

Texas State will enter the Sun Belt as a Football Bowl Subdivision program headed up by Coach Dennis Franchione.

While UT Arlington does not play football, officials haven?t ruled out adding the sport in the future.

Also, tomorrow is the day that the rumors of VCU, GMU & Butler are supposed to join the A-10. VCU's former AD (now with Minnesota) basically said, give it one more year.

  8. Dear God, Not HIM again....

    http://www.bizjournals.com/phoenix/morning_call/2012/04/phoenix-coyotes-sale-could-be.html?ana=RSS&s=article_search&page=all

A sale of the Phoenix Coyotes hockey club to an ownership group led by former San Jose Sharks CEO Greg Jamison">Greg Jamison could be approved by the National Hockey Leagueand city of Glendale as early as May 8. That would keep the Coyotes in Arizona and allow the team to rollover its on-ice success in this year's Stanley Cup Playoffs into ticket sales and business sponsorships for next season.

"Hulsizer?s name has popped up again recently as a potential investor in Jamison?s bid."

Seriously NHL, are you that eager for a lawsuit?

  9. Bettman saving the Coyotes just to move them to Seattle in a few years and then serving up the Islanders to Quebec City in 2015 just in time for their new arena to open. Little bastard is devious.

The thing is, this isn't really a "few years" type thing - they're going to go through this next year, then the year after that, etc. etc. They need to have a contingency plan ready to go at each year-end - they don't have the luxury of counting on the Coyotes being in the suburban mall for a "few" more years.

So I'm confused with the conflicting reports. Where does this stand right now? I read that the Glendopes agreed to pay the 5M, but then that other article hinted that they were leaving. What's the deal here?

Truth be told, I don't think anyone knows, but I did come across this at work today...

"As for the price asked by the League, which owns the team, he should not climb along with the rise of the team sets the table, assured Bill Daly. NHL asks $ 170 million for the Coyotes and that will not change, he said. "

I'd take it with a grain of salt, although this wouldn't surprise me in price.

  10. http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=fr&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Ftvasports.ca%2Ftvasports%2Fhockey%2Farchives%2F2012%2F04%2F20120424-163050.html&act=url

No agreement has been reached between the City of Glendale and the group led by Greg Jamison, but never mind, the Goldwater Institute is ready to defend citizens.

Councillor Joyce Clark said Monday she said that there is four of seven board members in favor of an agreement with Jamison, if he is willing to accept a $ 17 million for managing the arena.

To pay this amount to the group of Jamison, the City should increase sales taxes by 0.7%, which would make the city of Glendale most taxed in the United States.

Glendale Mayor Elaine Scruggs, said Monday it has abandoned the idea of keeping the Coyotes, as councilors Norma Alvarez and Phil Lieberman. It is therefore conceivable that Clark, Yvonne Knaack, Manny Martinez and Steven Frate are four members in favor.

Dear God let this be true.

  11. http://www.azfamily.com/news/Coyotes-win-as-Glendale-Council-pledges-more-money-148626725.html

Monday, during an eight-hour budget session, the Glendale City Council voted to budget another payout for next season.

During the same meeting, the Council also voted to raise property taxes and the sales tax. Council members said the Coyotes fund is not directly related to the tax hike, but another city official called it a "contributing factor."

Hmm, complete 180, the saga continues

  12. http://www.bizjournals.com/phoenix/news/2012/04/21/greg-jamison-says-hes-getting-closer.html?page=all

He said getting a final deal still could take one or two months. Jamison declined to go into too many details about his bid or where his money is coming from and how much more he needs.

"We?re not at 100 percent yet," said Jamison, referring to the financing intricacies.

 Didn't these jokers get enough time yet? I guess not.

  13. According to May 1st, the A-10 will welcome Butler, VCU & George Mason. VCU has denied the reports, no word on Mason & Btuler

    http://collegesportsinfo.com/2012/04/20/report-george-mason-vcu-to-join-atlantic-10-on-may-1-2012/

When the Atlantic 10 learned it has lost it?s keystone program, Temple, to the Big East, in 2013, the conference knew it needed to do something bold to replace them. But sometimes, when losing a school of so much importance, a single addition isn?t enough. So what?s better than adding Butler, a 2 year final game participant? Also adding George Mason and VCU, two other recent Final Four representatives in recent years.

Per Lenn Robbins of the NY Post, George Mason and VCU will be announcing they will be joining the Atlantic 10 on May 1st, with Butler expected to join as well.

The move would line up the Atlantic 10 as the premiere non-football sponsoring conference in the NCAA for the sport of basketball.

  14. With Georgia State heading to the Sun Belt, who does the CAA target?

George Mason and VCU play club football. What are the odds of them jumping over to NCAA?

I heard that Richmond doens't have a proper Division I FCS stadium right now, and there's no drive for VCU to have a varsity football program right now, so the Rams are out for now.

    Don't know about George Mason.

What do you think this is? :P

I don't think University of Richmond would share Robins Stadium with VCU.

Robins Stadium is on U of R's campus, City Stadium is in Richmond.

Old news, our old Dean basically said that as long as he was in charge, VCU wouldn't have a team, the time has passed & VCU is studying City Stadium. Students & Alumni are chomping at the bits for football, in my opinion, its not a matter of if anymore, its a matter of when & I can't wait.
