  1. With the NHL officially announcing the Four Nations Faceoff happening instead of the All Star Weekend next year, I wonder if we'll get a glimpse of what Fanatics is looking to do with the jerseys down the line. The 2016 World Cup of Hockey was the debut of the Adidas templates before the NHL teams adopted them.

The one thing I really like about the Commanders current set are the gold numbers on the burgundy jersey. Bothered me for the longest the team's colors were burgundy and gold, but gold was limited to being an accent color for most of my life. Going forward any burgundy jerseys they have going forward should have gold numbers. Gold pants are a must to be paired with them though.

Do the Packers need to use yellow numbers? Do the Niners need gold numbers? The Browns tried using orange numbers, and it looked terrible. Most teams use their secondary colour as trim on the numbers, if they have any outlines at all.

I do believe that the GTA could still house a team, but they don't work in places like Mississauga or Brampton. Perhaps in the North York region.  It's a hockey crazed city and the Leafs are extremely over priced, if you can even get a seat.

The problem with Toronto and the GTA is that it's a major league city. Most people here think they're above lower level leagues because we've got the NHL, NBA, MLB, and (to a lesser extent) MLS. It's the reason why the CFL struggles, but an NFL team would have no problem selling out. Even the Marlies can't manage to sell out an 8000 seat rink, and those tickets are very affordable.

There aren’t that many royal and red teams, are there? Pistons come to mind and they’ve always rocked those colors wonderfully, with the exception of their absurd foray into teal. Sixers have usually looked good in those colors too. There are way more red and black: Bulls, Raptors, Blazers, Rockets, Hawks (plus yellow), Heat (plus yellow),  Cavs (dishonorable mention). LAC going back to royal and red would be a breath of fresh air at this point.  (So would the sky blue and burnt orange from their distant past.)

I was thinking about pro sports in general. There are a lot of royal & red teams, but the Clippers are the only ones that have made black another one of their main colours. I guess the Marlins are the closest thing, but the shades of blue & red they use aren't quite the same, and they're a mostly black team. The closest example I can come up with for an ideal Clippers colour balance would be similar to the old Colorado Avalanche alternates, just with a bright red instead of burgundy.

Other than they've been pushing really hard to be a black team, from the court to the uniforms.

I feel like the addition of black isn't a bad thing for the Clippers, but they haven't found the right way to execute it yet. It's always felt tacked on, but I'm sure there's a design that would make it feel less like BFBS. Considering how many other royal & red teams there are, the black does help them stand out.

I have a soft spot for the set they wore at the beginning of Reggie Miller’s career. I think using that colorway (basically, royal blue instead of navy) would freshen up their look nicely.

I actually think the Pacers are one of the few royal blue teams that improved their set by switching to navy in the '90s. The Warriors have owned the royal & yellow look in the NBA for a little while now.

So which would be better for SLC? Getting a relocated Coyotes or an expansion franchise?

I think they'd be better off getting the Coyotes. Whatever the relocation fee would be, it would be much less than an expansion fee. They'd also be inheriting a roster with a lot of good, young talent, no terrible anchor contracts (there's only 2 guys who are signed for more than the next 2 seasons), and a ton of draft capital.

Truly ridiculous- that's some definition of insanity stuff, what makes us think Atlanta will work a third time?

I can't say whether it would work or not, but the potential owners seem confident that having the arena/entertainment district in the northern suburbs would be a better situation (similar to the Braves). The market itself has the typical things the league likes in a city (large population/tv market, massive corporate presence), plus it's the headquarters of Turner Broadcasting, which is now a league partner.

The Devils uniform is based on an image put out by Adidas. The Rangers' accessories are an educated guess on my part. And I have no information on the Islanders as of yet. Remember, my site is not official; like you, I'm merely a common fan with no inside information.

The NHL is selling this merch which seems to confirm the Devils & Rangers helmets. I couldn't find any Islanders shirts with this design.

We still didn't see an unused sweater for this logo, right?

The original slate of Stadium Series uniforms all used basically the same template, so we can probably take a good guess as to what it was gonna look like. I'd think it was similar to the Kings design with red instead of grey & green instead of black.

The original point of outdoor games is to celebrate hockey's origins, where games took place on frozen ponds. There's a heavy traditional feel to outdoor games, and throwbacks/fauxbacks translate perfectly to that vibe. When the Stadium Series introduces brash, loud, futuristic designs, it seems to run counter to the original purpose of playing games outdoors.

It seems like the initial idea for the Stadium Series (aside from recouping revenue that was lost in the 12-13 lockout) was to have outdoor games in some less traditional markets. Since then, the lines have been a bit blurred a bit since teams like Vegas, Dallas, and Nashville have gotten included in the Winter Classic, so it does feel like they aren't always sure what direction to take the Stadium Series anymore.

I assumed the Devils would be in black helmets, and under current rules, the Flyers wouldn't be able to. Maybe they got an exception from the league to do so

Pittsburgh & Philly both wore black helmets in the Stadium Series a few years back. It seems like there's different standards for the outdoor games.

Which puts us past the five-year mark which would lend them to make more significant changes all-around (dropping bone, removing gradients, etc.)

The team doesn't seem like they're looking to make wholesale changes to their set. They've gradually been phasing out the bone, but beyond that they seem pretty attached to the other logos/uniforms.

I also asked my rep about the Canucks jersey, there is a chance the black skate will be the jersey for the playoffs.

Disappointing, but not surprising. It seems like the loudest portion of the fanbase has been calling for this lately. Just look at the responses to this Luongo tweet:

The guy actually makes some great points, many of which have been made on these boards already, yet the response from Canucks fans seems to boil down to, "shut up boomer".

As far as a team that REALLY needs a change, I'm going Columbus, Florida, and I'll say Winnipeg (in favour of the the 1990s look).

It feels like Columbus and Winnipeg just need to swap colour schemes. They both have alternates that are essentially in the other team's colours that seem to be very popular with the fans. Let Winnipeg be the navy blue & red team, while the Jackets can be the two-tone blue & silver team.

Apparently he made it clear to them that he'd never play for them.  Apparently he's scared of Tortarella.  There was also something about Kevin Hayes getting in his ear and convincing him that the Flyers were a wasteland and he needs to leave to be a star (which would be so crazy to say even 10 years ago).

I don't follow hockey much, but it sounds like he was a top prospect and people are really pissed that he was traded, and not happy with the return.

Both the Tortorella & Hayes stuff were just unfounded rumours that have since been debunked.

People seem generally happy with the return. They got Jamie Drysdale, who was the 6th overall pick a couple years before Gauthier, plus a 2nd rounder. I think what people are pissed about is that at the draft he told the Flyers brass that he was excited to be part of the team, then changed his tune after he was selected. He refused to even meet with them before the trade, and allegedly never gave them an actual answer as to why he wanted out.

    2) If Disney chose San Diego instead of Anaheim, they wouldn't have had to give a penny to that con man Bruce McNall.

They still would have had to pay the exact same expansion fee. Anaheim & Florida both paid $50M for their franchises. The only difference is that half of Anaheim's fee went directly to the Kings, instead of being evenly divided amongst the league's owners

  15. I don’t hate these as much as I probably should. I wouldn’t buy one, but if you’re going to go bold with a design, the All Star Game is the time to do it. I also prefer having 4 different jerseys instead of 2.

I’m calling it now, give it 30 years and these will be seen as beloved classics.

The Pens also won the Cup in 2016 wearing Vegas gold and then switched to athletic gold and won it again in 2017.

Well, sort of. In 2016 they designated the black throwback as their home jersey, and wore it throughout the playoffs. In 2017 they introduced the white throwback to match the home look,

It's not too often that we see a proper NHL trade these days, let alone one involving a couple of recent top 10 picks. Credit to the Flyers for keeping everything quiet, since it sounds like they've been sour on Gauthier since he skipped development camp in the summer.

It would be pretty funny if he legitimately wanted out of Philadelphia because of his childhood allegiance to the Penguins.

How many instances has that happened? A team wearing one version of a uniform, winning a title in them then moving away from it? Can't be too many.

The Pittsburgh Penguins won back to back Stanley Cups in '91 & '92, then changed their uniforms for the '93 season. They came close to completing the three-peat, finishing 1st overall in the regular season, but got upset in the playoffs. It could have been an even rarer instance of back to back championships with different logos/uniforms.
