Who was the first American-born player to notch 100 points in an NHL season?

Joe Mullen's 110 points in 1988-89 was a few years too late to nab that distinction.

Oops--Bobby Carpenter and Neal Broten did it the same season--not sure who got to 100 first though. I was thinking Washington Capitals--and Carpenter was a Capital at the time...

(Also see below--I'm just a little discombobulated I guess...)

mike gartner was born in ottawa, ont

Oops sorry---I got him mixed up with Bobby Carpenter-(both scored 100 with the Caps-at first I typed in Mike Carpenter--then I miscorrected it, and I went with Gartner--actually let me go and edit the above post...

I did not realize somebody did it the same year as Neal Broten. I am guessing Broten got there first, because I always thought it was him, but I guess it is more accurate to say it was both guys.

Carpenter never scored over 100, his high was 95. I think he may have been the first US player to score 50 goals though.

Neal Broten is the answer.

"It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the

press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of

speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us

the freedom to demonstrate. And it is the soldier who salutes the

flag, serves beneath the flag, whose coffin is draped by the flag, and

who allows the protester to burn the flag."
