sj32
A trivial note: the first owner and founder of American Baseball Cap, which supplied helmets to the Majors until being bought out by Rawlings last year, was Branch Rickey. Rickey was president of the Dodgers when he introduced the first ABC helmets. When he was fired by the Dodgers, he hooked on with the Pittsburgh Pirates. In the early and mid-50's, Rickey had the Pirates wearing his helmets not only at bat, but in the field.
