Robin Yount to Coach Brewers!

MILWAUKEE -- The time appears finally right for Robin Yount to come home.

In a major coup for an organization that has tried for years to lure back its most prolific player, MLB.com has learned from a baseball source that on Friday the Brewers are expected to name Yount as the club's bench coach. He would replace Rich Dauer, who was let go on the final day of the 2005 season. The club has called a press conference at Miller Park for 11:30 a.m. CT Friday morning, but the club did not disclose the subject of the press conference.

Manager Ned Yost, Yount's former teammate who would now be his boss, did not immediately return a call seeking comment, and general manager Doug Melvin was also unavailable. Brewers officials are currently participating in organizational meetings in Milwaukee.

Yount collected 3,142 hits while playing all 20 of his Major League seasons in Milwaukee, and he leads the franchise in nearly all offensive categories. He broke in as an 18-year-old shortstop in 1974, won his first American League MVP Award while leading the 1982 Brewers to the World Series, then won another MVP as an outfielder in 1989. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1999.

Now 50, Yount served as a first base and bench coach for the Arizona Diamondbacks from 2002-2004 and left that post after manager Bob Brenly was fired. Yount, who lives in the Phoenix area, had repeatedly declined offers from the Brewers to return to Milwaukee.

Last month, Yost tabbed another former Brewer, Dale Sveum, as third base coach. Both Sveum and Yount likely will help mentor some of the Brewers' promising but raw infielders including top prospect Rickie Weeks. Yount's son, Dustin, plays in Baltimore's Minor League system and is friends with current Brewers shortstop J.J. Hardy.

"Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be eaten. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle. When the sun comes up, you'd better be running." - Unknown | 🌐 Check out my articles on jerseys at Bacon Sports 🔗

If the Brewers were going to do a uniform change:

A - With Yount back, now would be the time...

B - Why did they introduce Yount with last year's jersey?
